Opening on August 1, 2019 In August 2019, we will open "The Lake Suite Konosumika", a luxurious place connected to the clear air, vast lake, and magnificent scenery that softly relaxes the visitor's mind. The Lake Suite Kono-Sumika is a luxurious place connected to the vast lake and the magnificent scenery that softly relaxes visitors. All 80 rooms are equipped with an outdoor hot spring bath with a lake view. During the long-run fireworks display at Lake Toya (from late April to the end of October), you can watch the fireworks right in front of you on the terrace, which is the best private seat in the house. The open-air bath is located on the top floor with a spectacular view of nature. The overwhelming sense of openness of "floating in the sky and relaxing on the sky" on the lake will provide you with a comfortable and blissful time like never before. Our meals are prepared using only the freshest seasonal ingredients and locally produced and consumed ingredients, and are served freshly fried or nigirizushi in our live kitchen.

During my recent travels, I had the opportunity to stay at a well-known onsen hotel overlooking the picturesque Lake Toya. While there were some high points to this establishment, I must share a candid account of the experiences that ranged from exceptional to unfortunately subpar. Room and Amenities: A Modern Lakeside Haven The hotel's accommodations were a true delight. The room boasted a modern decor with clean lines and a soothing color palette that created a serene atmosphere. The in-room amenities included a space designed for relaxation after enjoying the onsen, which I found quite thoughtful. The onsen experience itself was elevated by the spectacular view of Lake Toya, providing a tranquil escape and a feast for the eyes. Waking up to the serene view of the lake with its calming waters and the lush landscape was the highlight of my stay. This view, coupled with the modern comfort of the room, set a promising stage for what I hoped would be an all-around premium experience. Dining: A Disheartening Letdown Unfortunately, the dining experience at the hotel's sister property next door was a stark contrast to the comfort of the accommodations. Despite being under the same hotel group, the restaurant failed to meet the expectations set by the room's standard. For a hotel of this caliber and price point, I was surprised and disheartened to find the food quality significantly lacking. The meals were far from the high standard one would anticipate, with dishes that were unremarkable and forgettable at best. The dining area was unexpectedly crowded, which detracted from the serene atmosphere one would seek at an onsen resort. Adding to the dismay, the service at the restaurant was not up to par. The buffet-style setup was poorly managed, with food items running out and no timely refills in sight. This left many guests, myself included, waiting for the chance to sample dishes that were advertised but not available. Final Thoughts: A Juxtaposition of Quality In conclusion, the Lake Toya Onsen Hotel offers a mixed experience. While the rooms provide a luxurious and modern retreat with breathtaking views, the dining experience offered by the adjacent hotel under the same brand was a letdown. The lack of quality and service in the restaurant did not match the price nor the reputation of the hotel group. I walked away with a longing for the peaceful moments in the onsen and the beauty of Lake Toya but with the hope that the hotel will address these inconsistencies for future guests. The potential for a truly exceptional stay is there, yet it's overshadowed by the dining experience, which I cannot overlook. Guests considering this property should come for the views and the onsen but set their dining expectations accordingly or explore local eateries instead.

Fairly new modern room with 10/10 view. Took their free bus service which is very convenient, but felt the return trip was kind of early having to leave at 9:30am. Had the buffet dinner & breakfast, food was good nothing special. I found it kind of odd that the onsen bath water didn't have ANY of the sulfur smell. Yes, I did hit the "onsen" button.

Superb. absolutely beautiful location and view.. we stayed on ground level and had out door seating and open air onsen in our room. The staff was great. Very peaceful environment all around. Public infinity onsen was very nice... I really can't say enough good things. Loved the food. Everything included. If you want to RELAX , this is the place.. very quiet. Being from Hawaii - I appreciated the cold weather and overall appeal and architecture. Ko no Sumika is beautiful... looking forward to my return. Aloha Ko no Sumika

Luxurious, comfortable boutique hotel. As Part of a larger hotel beside, guests of lake suite can access the facilities of the larger hotel but not vice versa, keeping its exclusivity. Half board stay, with good breakfast and dinner Free carpark The family had a relaxed and comfortable stay before setting off to Noboribetsu

I've been to Toyako before but didn't think anything of it but really enjoyed my stay and views of the lake this trip. All rooms at Ko no sumika face Toyako and street noise is minimal from the rooms. The views from the 8th floor rotenburo are outstanding, probably the best views/rotenburo experience I've had. The rotenburo is infinity pool with 180deg unobstructed views of the lake. Plus Mt Yotei. There are two cold plunge pools, one around 10deg and the other under 20deg. Check-in was a bit of a production with 15-20 guests all showing up at the same time so we were seated in the lounge area to relax and have a drink while we waited to be checked-in. Our meal plan was at the property next door, buffet style with enough for 10 meals. Overall very good food and variety. Many great hikes close by.

We're family of four and stayed one day, we arrived early and had to wait for 4 hours before checking in. We went around town, but it was snowing, so not much option. Check in was easy and quick, but English was limited. All information were not translated in other languages. As pricy as this hotel, at least they should have people translate information into other languages. We had the corner room looking over the lake and to the side of the parking lot, room feels big. They also charged our two kids less than 8 with adult price, which I thought was ridiculous. Anyway, the view amenities, private onsen and the decor are amazing. You can sit there all day to enjoy the Lake Toya view. We went to the sister hotel to eat dinner and breakfast, which were okay, not thing special. They had Tahiti performance after dinner which was great. The kids and I love the Waterland at the sister hotel. We can access that from 3PM-10PM. The wave pool was the best and some water slides . There are life guards there, which I thought was nice. Note that there's no towel supply for us, you have to walk over to their onsen area to get towel when you are done. We ended up going back to our hotel to shower and change. The onsen at the locates located on the 8th floor with a tiny gym. There are two sides, outdoor pool and indoor with a sauna. They also have popsicles for you to eat afterwards. That was a great personal touch. Amid the price for charging two young's kids, I would go back in a heartbeat. Some things to change, lack of customer service ( staff were nice but not welcoming), welcoming tea at the main floor would be nice. More restaurant options.

Plus: The Lake Suite hotel only opened in August 2019, so we were among the first guests and therefore report in detail here. The Lake Suite is the new building connected to Toya Sun Palace. The Lake Suite seems rather 5 star, the older parts probably not. Entrance and lobby 10 (10), really nice with lots of air and water. Rooms 10 (10), beautiful. Balcony with excellent view of the lake. Watch the fireworks in the summer. Food 8 (10). Great choice for buffet dinner plus extra beef or sashimi served at the table. Breakfast a little less stunning maybe for non-Asians. Also, the menu does not seem to change (over the three days we stayed). Onsen 11 (10). Roof-top onsen with infinity pool and perfect view of Lake Toya and Mt Yotei. Not sure you can do better. Plus private onsen in room. Minus: We had a room for two occupied with two kids (on an extra bed). Unsurprisingly, there was little space and we had to be creative with hiding the suitcases. Restaurant was in the "old" part of Sun Palace where the atmosphere is good but not as nice as in The Lake Suite. As mentioned, the breakfast was not perfect (choice of coffees, continental breakfast). Also, the menu does not seem to change (over the three days we stayed). Level of English spoken was sometimes just at average Japanese standards.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous! The design is very modern, yet there are traditional Japanese aspects incorporated as well. Every room has a view of Lake Toya and you can also soak in the onsen while you look over the stunning view. The lounge area are filled with chairs over looking Lake Toya and the lounge also offer some free drinks and snacks during check in for all guests. The price tag is well worth for what's offered in the hotel. A couple of things which I think the hotel can improve on is the finer details found in other hotels/onsen. There was no tea prepared for us upon arrival to our room, though the lady that bought us to our room was pretty courteous while showing us the features of the room. Also, there is no luggage rack in the room, so we had to leave our luggage and bags on the floor or the couch which is not sanitary. They also have a public onsen on the 8th floor of the hotel as well as a tiny gym. Depending on your room package, your meals could either be inside the hotel restaurant or be a buffet at a restaurant at their parent hotel next to them, which is a short three minute walk over. There are four types of rooms at the hotel. First, there is the universal room which there is only one on each floor. There's also the corner rooms on both ends of a floor and the garden terrace room which is found only on the first floor. The last time is the terrace rooms which fill the rest of the hotel out.
