Our stay was in February 2019.

Kamoshika Views has a cool vibe in and around it. It is sitting on a hillside, facing Hakuba’s slopes. The kitchen has huge glass walls so you can see the mountains. It was those photos on Airbnb that had us book with Rus.

The guesthouse was a long way from everything, so they had free van services throughout the day. He and his partner, Frank, brought guests to ski resorts, grocery, and town centre with restaurants and bars. When my husband and I stayed there, there were supposed to be three services according to their Airbnb page, but I was sure they did more. They gave us good recommendations on where to go and eat. They also drove us to the bus station on our last day.

Rus warmly welcomed us to his place. We immediately felt like it was a nice home to stay in on the freezing-end of winter season. We rented a room instead of dorm beds for two nights. The room was warm and cozy, but it was the kitchen and living room that we loved hanging out in, a can of Asahi beer in hand.

However, cleanliness could be improved. Actually, it was the only issue I had with the guesthouse. With a lot of guests and only two hosts (I never saw anyone else), it must be tough to accomplish this. They could perhaps give guests a constant reminder to clean after themselves or avoid leaving leftover food or litter on the table or couch. It is, after all, a guesthouse and not a hotel. The restrooms could also use a regular cleanliness check. There was one toilet (out of the several) that hadn’t been maintained since we arrived, and it kind of affected the whole experience if not for everything else.

Still, I’d say I would go back. I could imagine it better with some friends, and finally try skiing! Overall, it was a very good stay.

Stayed with Russ for 5 nights. Couldn’t get a more friendly helpful host with local knowledge. Accomodation was extremely clean and tidy. Highly recommended if your looking for budget dorm style accommodation with a great vibe 🤙

I found Rus' place on Airbnb, and reaffirmed there are two basic factors that go into a lodge: 1. The host; and 2. The property.
Rus is indeed pretty awesome -- super nice & very accommodating. The lodge, on the other hand... a big fat no. Unless you're 22 years old, fresh out of college/uni and don't really care what your pillow looks like when you take the case off (yes, it's nasty).

My boyfriend and I originally anticipated staying at Rus' place for 5 nights - but only stayed 30 minutes before hugging out our disappointment and finding another place to stay on Airbnb.

Upon arrival, we found the lodge, particularly the bathrooms, the floors and our room, to be super dirty. (The first thing I did was wipe the layer of dust off the dresser and mirror in our room. Ick)

I opened the bathroom door - and in order to get to the toilet stall, I had to walk past two urinals. There's no lock on the bathroom door. So, this meant I was destined to open the door to some dude peeing into the urinal, or be in the toilet stall and have some guy walk in to use the urinal while I was in the stall. UH, ick. And the smell... well, if you know what a urinal smells like... that. The whole bathroom. Who are you people who leave these shiny "it's clean!" reviews?

Again, Rus was cool but my boyfriend and I agreed there was *NO* way we'd be able to spend 5 nights at his lodge so we left the next morning for another (awesome and CLEAN!) place. And he only gave us 1/2 our money back. Boo hisssss.

The general crowd was in their 20's - which I would have been into when I was in my 20's, but I'm not. And I like my sleep, particularly when I want to get up early to board the next day. I don't even want to have to think about the age of the "crowd" when I stay at a lodge - if you read between the lines of the reviews here, you'll see everyone comments about how social it is... BRO. Blech.

So, college age and on a budget? Rock on, you'll be stoked with Rus, I'm sure. A little older with some (any?) desire for cleanliness? Spend a couple bucks elsewhere.

Room Tip: The dorm rooms were teeny tiny. There's no closet in the private twin/king room.

Response from Russell B, Owner at Kamoshika Views
Responded 30 Jun 2017
Upon you arriving at my accommodation, you told me that you couldn't stay due to you being 39 years old. I didn't quite understand what that meant, however, being a generous human I offered you a 50% refund and drove you to a different accommodation provider, you told me that you were very happy with this solution as you were aware that as per my terms and conditions, I didn't have to do this. 2 weeks later you got Airbnb involved and asked for a full refund, I wrote to you and explained that I had already lost money due to me being kind and giving you a 50% refund, and so I declined to refund you the remainder. It then is incredibly sad to read such a nasty review, attacking my business, after I helped you as best I could at the time. None of the above was remotely true. If you are considering staying with me, please understand I welcome anyone and everyone and have had guests stay as young as 1 and as old as 74 all leaving with smiles on their faces. Please also read my reviews on other platforms before making a decision on booking. Looking forward to meeting you. Thanks Rus

Great spot to stay for a snowboarding trip. Russ the owner knows everything you need to know about where to ride on certain days as the weather changes so much. Russ is a super friendly guy who is willing to do anything to make your stay a trip to remember. Each morning russ does drop offs to the resorts where u wish to ride. The lodge is newly renovated with the best views of Hakuba.
In all great value for money. I highly recommend kamoshika views

Rocked up to this hill top lodge at 1am with perfect instructions. Woke up the following morning to Russ already shuttling around fellow guests, to a welcoming "booya" hello.
Spent two weeks in Russ' lodge and the hospitality was tip top, best I've experienced in all my travels. The service was fantastic, a time table set to suit guests, ideas flowing from the man himself of good ideas, ways to spend down days, breakfast options, best places to ride with travel options to suit the conditions, a supermarket run at the end of the day with sufficient storage for the up to 26 (+)? Companions - the list goes on. We did so much in these two weeks and not being based at a resort was the best part of it. It allows you to explore more mountains (especially with his shuttle runs) get away from the typical snow get away and explore the town, culture and fun things to do (tours, bars etc)
Possible car hire to get around easier, not that he doesn't do everything he can already to the lengths he can for this high number of guests.
Not to mention getting to know the guy aswell. Who knew spending two weeks in his home-like lodge would end with a departure no one was looking forward to (and that's not due to the snow we had - believe me) ABSOLUTE ROCK LEGEND
Could not recommend this place higher, suited to solo travelers, couples, friend groups - we experienced it all over our two weeks and met some amazing people.

Would go back to this lodge EVERY time I or any of us visit Hakuba again.

Would recommend to absolutely anyone.

Already want to be back at KAMOSHIKA (wolf goat) LODGE

My partner and I stayed with Rus at Kamoshika views for a total of 17 days. Originally we had booked for 14, however after spending a few days here we realized that we had to extend our stay.
The lodge itself is so extremely comfortable, cosy, clean, warm, inviting, chilled-out and friendly with the most extraordinary views out of each window. Rus makes it incredibly easy to get around the Hakuba Valley, we were never stuck without a lift home or without knowing what to do as his knowledge and experience of the area is so great and seriously he's just a top person and an amazing host.
I would recommend Kamoshika Views to anyone and I will most certainly be staying here again!

Upon arriving at Kamoshika views, the host immediately made us feel welcome. He drove us downtown on one of his morning shuttle runs, and pointed out where we could eat, get free wifi, and onsen.
the price of the rooms were very affordable; the cheapest we could find in Hakuba, and despite this the double room, my partner and I shared for over two weeks was impressively large, and the open lounge room and industrial kitchen allowed for us to cook our own meals when we wanted to stay on budget, and drink our own drinks with the dozen new friends we made during our stay.
The host creates a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, so that everyone feels welcome and many good times were had with new friends; eating, drinking and skiing together.
A good stay is guaranteed at Kamoshika Views, and if you are budget conscious than all the more reason to extend your stay like we did.

Had 2 weeks at Kamoshika Views in early January and had an absolute blast. Was the first time snowboarding for myself and my partner. The lodge is super accommodating with unreal views of happo. Russ the owner/host makes you feel right at home and has heaps of local knowledge on everything Hakuba has to offer. He also does multiple shuttle runs daily to happo bus terminal to drop off and pick up after a fun day on the mountain. Cannot wait to get back.

Spent a couple of nights at Kamoshika Views. Russ is really accomodating, offers shuttles to and from town, and has heaps of knowledge on places to eat and things to do around Hakuba.
The lodge has awesome views of Happo-one, a super comfy lounge room that felt just like home and a really friendly and relaxed vibe.
