Great place. Had a 5 night stay at Sierra last week, ski trip with my daughter, could not fault the resort, its staff and the food. Beautiful location with a free shuttle bus to move you into Hakuba, good skis to rent and easy local transport to thye ski resorts, 10 minuets up the road.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Sierra Resort, Hakuba when we visited in February. The hotel itself is beautiful, well maintained and offers a lot to its visitors. The hotel is set outside of the main town in it's own little secluded area. This can be a plus and minus - Positive because the resort is so beautiful and away from the hustle and bustle, negative as it can at times be difficult to access transport to and from town (restaurants, bars, ski fields, etc). The hotel offers a shuttle bus in the evenings to take you into town, although you need to book in there and back, which can be restrictive of your time at dinner, etc as you have to decide on a return time. The shuttle bus doesn't stop near all restaurants, so you could be walking in the dark/cold to your reservation and then waiting in the cold for the return bus. Keep this in mind - a lot of the time we found it more convenient to order a taxi, although these can be hard to come by and expensive! The Ski shuttle bus picks up/drops off at the hotel each day. Buses are busy and there are no racks for ski/board gear - you need to carry everything onto the bus with you, which can be very squishy as the buses get quite full. We found Tsugaike to be the closest and most convenient ski field to the hotel. The staff at the hotel were always very friendly and helpful. Language barriers existed, although staff would always ensure they had assisted you by the end of the conversation, you just have to allow a little more time in your schedule to organise and make your plans. This also allowed us time to learn some simple Japanese which assisted us when communicating with the staff. Sierra Hotel offers complimentary food at different times throughout the day, served in the main lobby area - curries, rice, soup, etc. This is so convenient when you get back from the ski fields and just want a small bite to eat before dinner. Hotel also offers complimentary wine, tea and ice creams. Breakfast - great selection of Japanese and Western food. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast each morning. There were always new things to try each day - eg: different soups (pumpkin, corn), also beautiful views outside. Dinner - we had dinner at the hotel one night from the A La Carte menu. Also thoroughly enjoyed our meals (Pasta, calamari, soup, fries, etc). Rooms were big, very comfortable and warm with special heating. Beautiful views of the snow and areas around the hotel. Our favourite part of the resort was the beautiful public and private onsens made up of pure mineral water. The private onsens need to be booked in ahead of time which the hotel allows each morning - you will need to be quick to make a booking. We would definitely recommend Hotel Sierra Resort and would stay here again. Thank you to the staff for an enjoyable stay! :)

Booked this hotel because their website shows the rooms are fine. Also they have private bath. The real situation is that the building is rather old and the room is not well-maintained. We check-in a little bit late because we booked their transportation via email but did not show, until we asked the staff at the Hakuba station to phone the hotel to pick us up. We check in at around 4 pm that day and all the private baths were already booked.

Yesterday we finished our ski holiday at Sierra Resort and the location is simply stunning - you will not find a more beautiful winter wonderland setting and the resort's architecture features huge windows with spectacular views into the surroundings. The beyond helpful and efficient team at Sierra got us bookings at local restaurants including one Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) dinner that completely blew our mind - definitely some of the best Wagyu we've tasted. The complementary dinner shuttle bus worked perfectly for us and from the stops it was only a 2/3 mins walk to the restaurants (we went out for dinner all 3 nights in a row because it was so easy to get to the village and we enjoyed having a look around town but there is also a restaurant at the resort that fellow guests said was excellent). Similarly the staff explained where and when we could hop on the bus to the slopes and get back, which worked without any problems for us (from lots of ski holidays back home in Europe, we were already well used to the ins- and outs and the logistics of skiing and the transport to and from slopes here was on par with most ski resorts we have been to) The Onsen at Sierra are extraordinary (particularly amazing after a long day of skiing) and the breakfast choice is huge and delicious (incl. such things as homemade jams!). We live on the other side of the world, but if we were able to come back to Japan we would definitely stay here again.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The hotel itself and facilities are great however these could not overcome the problem of the hotel's isolated location. The Sierra is a wonderful hotel. It is not particularly new (ski hotels seldom are) however it was very well kept and maintained. It was in no way run-down and nor did it feel tired. The rooms were spacious and comfortable but still a bit basic. In the middle of winter they were still very warm. The bed was particularly firm. The hotel services are second to none. The onsen is particularly good. There is an excellent 'public' onsen at the back of the hotel as well as the option of a number of 'private' onsens that can be booked for those who are a bit more modest and may not want to get naked with strangers. The hotel offers a number of complimentary refreshments and drinks (including wine) in the public areas of an afternoon/evening and it is a very pleasant atmosphere to relax in. The biggest drawback of the hotel is the isolated location and many of the hotels additional services are a result of the location. If you don't have a car it is expensive and/or difficult to get around. We stayed at the Sierra to ski in Hakuba. The hotel has a stop on the 'HV3' line of the Hakuba Valley ski bus shuttle however unlike many ski resorts, the buses are very infrequent and uncomfortable. To get to either of the Tier 1 Hakuba ski resorts - 'Happo One' or 'Goryu/Hakuba47', the morning shuttle bus departed at either 8:19, 9:29, or 10:39 AM. That's it. It was then 35 minutes on the bus to Happo One or 50 minutes to get to Goryu/Hakuba47. There are no ski racks - all skiing equipment you have to hold onto on the bus. Returning to the hotel at the end of the day was equally as uncomfortable and inconvenient. Iwatake and Tsugaike were both much closer at around 10 minutes away. Getting to the town at night for dinner was also difficult. The hotel has a service to book restaurants for you (it's difficult to get a table in Hakuba without a reservation) and then offers a free shuttle bus which was comfortable but up to 30 minutes each way. The problems we found were that not all of the restaurants as part of the hotel's reservation service are near of the shuttle bus stops and the fixed and infrequent schedule meant that we had to wait for 40 minutes outside after our restaurant closed whilst we waited for the bus. On another night, we took a taxi from the hotel and it was 4000 Yen (US$31) each way from the Hakuba town to the hotel. As a result, we ate at the hotel for three of five nights. There is a fixed five course French menu which was excellent however you wont know what's on it until you arrive. We loved it but it may be difficult for picky eaters. You will also need to book in advance. If you don't book this in advance you can eat at the same restaurant but from the 'international' menu which is mainly Italian food. This was OK, but nowhere near as good as the French set menu. The staff were excellent. There is also a native English speaker on staff which was very much appreciated. He was so helpful and it made communication so easy. The bottom line is that Hakuba is not an easy place to get around without a car. Unlike most other ski resorts it is spread out and doesn't have a downtown core that is walkable and the individual ski resorts that make up Hakuba Valley are equally spread out and not interconnected. The location of the Sierra Resort meant that no matter how good the hotel facilities, our entire holiday was determined by different shuttle bus timetables. If we had a car our experience would have been totally different.

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel was very cosy with big private onsens. They provided hot curry and snacks at the reception complimentary. We were lucky to see snowfall right from our rooms and the whole place was very beautiful during winter. The location was a bit inconvenient as you needed to take shuttle bus or public bus to literally go anywhere including for ski.

This resort is above and beyond what has been written here. Breathtakingly beautiful in both outdoor and indoor environment it’s difficult to write enough to do justice to just how truly fabulous this place is. Given everyone who stays anywhere in Hakuba takes a shuttle bus to the ski fields of their choice then staying here is no issue as the bus comes regularly. In the evenings for dinner you book the resort bus and it takes you where you choose to go. Be sure to research local restaurants and avoid Hige and TacoTaco at all costs and indeed anything in Echoland (a backpackers, overinflated waste of time). We can't wait to return and booked our return trip for January 2020 in June this year. See you then Sierra!

We absolutely loved our stay here - room was big, private onsens were fantastic, and their snacks and breakfast selection were also excellent! Book early as this hotel tends to sell out quickly, especially during peak times.

They have No1 Hot Springs in Hakuba Area. This hot springs is best in my life. the Size is too big and you can feel Japanese Culture. Even if you don’t stay this hotel, you can go into the hot springs between 10am and 3pm. The fee is 1000yen.
