We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Asuka lodge. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was outstanding with a new hot breakfast menu every day including pancakes, breakfast burritos and french toast. The stand out staff were Tiahn, Jess and Ollie who were super welcoming and made us feel right at home. They went above and beyond to help their guests. We will definitely be back again.

I had the oden, the unique blue cheese tofu, and the ochazuke. I also had the Suntori Hakushu whiskey, a new favorite. All were perfect and quite reasonably priced. Service was immediate whenever I caught a server's eye, and despite their kindly posted warning that no English speakers working today, language was not an issue.

The staff at asuka lodge could not do enough for us as guests. They do nightly shuttles into Echoland, the breakfasts are amazing and even helped us with rail passes. Rooms are clean and the location is great. We stayed as a group of 6 here and we will 100% will be back!

Asuka has a communal feel and seems like it used to be a hostel or some community place. The staff is super nice and create an easy going vibe. We got a private bathroom room. Tight fit room but did the trick well enough.

We stayed at Asuka lodge for 6 nights and absolutely loved it!
Firstly, the staff were amazing. They couldn't have been more accommodating and everyone was genuinely nice and happy to help us with anything they could.
We stayed in a twin room, which was spacious and also included a basin which was convenient. There was also wifi available in the room. The shared toilets (one on each level) and shower/onsen facilities were always clean, and we rarely had to wait to use them.
The included breakfast was continental (toast, yoghurt, fruit, cereal etc) with one hot option included, which changed each day (eg. french toast, ham & cheese croissant, pancakes). This was served in a common room which had plenty of tables and chairs, as well as some couches, a TV, a play station, a book shelf full of books and a great view. There was also a bar which served beer and chu-hai on tap, as well as offering a number of other beer and pre-mixed stubbies and spirits.
The location of the lodge was towards the top of a hill, and whilst the walk up was sometimes a struggle it was only a short walk to the main gondola and an even shorter walk to the Evergreen ski school.
Each afternoon there was a bus to an Onsen, Supermarket, ATM and Echoland which was really convenient. They also picked us up and dropped us off at the bus stop when we arrived/departed.
Asuka is the perfect accommodation for any group, whether it be families, couples or a group of friends. It is definitely value for money! We highly recommend it and will hopefully be back next year!

We stayed at Asuka Lodge from for the first half of our Hakuba Honeymoon trip from 28 Dec 2014 - 2 Jan 2015. From the moment we arrived at the station, the staff at Asuka did all they could to make our stay enjoyable, including picking us up from the train at 8.30pm the night we arrived to dropping us off at our B&B at the end of our stay with them. The Lodge itself is cozy, spacious and social without being too 'in your face'. The staff are amazing - kind, knowledgable and very friendly. While not the flashiest accommodation on the block, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The lodge is less than a 1 minute walk from the Kokusai 1 lift and a couple minutes walk from Gondola Adam. The drying room was secure and our gear was dry every morning. The kitchen was great and the lounge room was very spacious, with a large TV, DVD player (and DVD's), playstation and games, books, magazines etc. Coffee, tea and milo were available all day and fruit was usually available too (which was very generous considering the cost of fruit in Japan!). Breakfasts were awesome - toast, english muffins, bagels, cereals, juices, yoghurt, a great assortment of spreads, fruit and a different hot item each day.

There was a range of different guests staying including groups of friends, families with young children, families with teenagers, young couples, older couples....basically, Asuka Lodge easily caters for a broad variety of people. During our stay they got the bar up and running which was really neat and a great place to have a beer in the evening while watching DVDs of snowboarders doing awesome tricks and making you feel totally inadequate...but I digress.

The Lodge is within easy walking distance of a good range of restaurants, bars and cafes, and as there are no ATMs, supermarkets or 'corner stores' in the area, the Lodge provide a nightly service run for guests to these places. Its an easy place to feel relaxed and we were honestly really sad to leave. We highly recommend Asuka Lodge to anyone looking for a great, very affordable place to stay.

Thank guys, we can't wait to visit again!

Asuka was hands down an amazing, unforgettable experience. Location wise this is literally ski in ski out. We stayed a week but didn't want to leave.

The staff at Asuka are awesome, nothing is too hard, and never a problem for the crew, who are always there to answer questions, book dinners, adventures, pour a beer or to just have a laugh with.

The daily brekkie never fails to impress, with my personal favs including (sorry Kim) Alex's "B & E McAlex Twist" and Maya's home made baked beans on hashbrown.

Asuka lodge provides all the required amenities for a comfortable lodge experience but with the added bonus of having genuinely friendly, helpful and caring staff.

We feel like we arrived as strangers but left as friends and are already looking forward to keeping in touch and returning as soon as we can!

I thought I might start this review by including the bad bits - but there honestly weren’t any, so I’ll get straight in to describing how good Asuka is. As already mentioned by probably everyone, the staff are great here. The guests are mostly Australian and the staff are a mix of Aussies, Canadians. English and Japanese. They’re all young and eager to help. Sometimes it was difficult to tell the staff from the guests, they were so relaxed and easy going, and yet the place runs super-efficiently. They made restaurant recommendations and reservations for us, advised us about hiring gear and getting lift tickets (we didn’t have any of that stuff pre-arranged), and then delivered the tickets we wanted to us at the breakfast table. That’s hard to beat.

Time to mention the breakfast – great! There was a daily cooked item, which we looked forward to, but we could easily have managed with the self-serve options. Even our children got out of bed for breakfast, so it must have been good.

We had a family room with a double bed and bunks and plenty of room to swing a cat, if we’d brought one. There was a wash-basin in the little lobby in our room: the toilet was on the landing not far away, and the shower was downstairs in the onsen-room. There are a lot of half stair cases in this building and you find yourself often having to go up before you can go down – but we were here for the skiing and a bit of extra exercise didn’t hurt. We (most of us) onsened every afternoon – it’s a good way to get to know your fellow guests (of the same gender, that is).

There is a small bar and a common room. We had a few drinks in the bar, but as we were only on a 2 week holiday we ate out every night. Others used the kitchen attached to the common room to cook lunch and dinner. Breakfast things are washed for you, but you have to wash your own things if you use the kitchen after breakfast.

The location is brilliant – better than the other associated establishments, I think. I didn’t stay anywhere else, but Asuka is actually in Hakuba village and it’s an easy walk to shops, restaurants, ATM and lifts, where I think you would need a taxi or a lift to get to town from the other places.

It’s only 50 yards to the bottom of the nearest lift! You can literally ski to the front door, though you need to take your skis off to cross the road. On the first couple of days we took the shuttle bus to Sakka to start skiing, but as soon as we learned our way around the mountain we were able to walk out the door, cross the road, and start skiing.

I would be more than happy to come back here to ski!

Before coming to the lodge we had our doubts as it was ridiculously cheap but that quickly changed. From being picked up at the station until being dropped off it was an experience my brother and I will never forget. We stayed in a Japanese-style twin room which was so awesome and the free wifi topped it off. The hot breakfast every morning was so good with continental breakfast on the side. All staff were friendly and comforting, they would always offer us rides to the slopes, restaurants and convenience store. It is literally a 5-minute walk to the Happo-One Adam Gondola which has some good runs. We only stayed here for 4 nights and that was obviously not enough, we'll definitely be coming back for longer.
