Small and slightly like a caravan bathroom - but spotlessly clean with big bottles of body wash, shampoo and conditioner. Had the best hot and steamy showers after a long cold day skiing. The size of the bathroom doesn’t matter when the service is amazing!

Our stay at the hotel was fabulous. The owners and staff were warm and friendly, able to assist with all our enquiries, and shuttled us around from bus station to ski resorts with no additional costs. We were staying on the top floor, the stairs were challenging after a full day of skiing, but we managed just fine. We had 3 staying in one room, good size, comfortable with enough room for all our luggage. The drying room and free use of the washer & dryer was a bonus. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Lovely little hotel with staff who genuinely want to please and are more than willing to go out of their way to help!

They happily brought us to ski school every morning in their car, which saved a huge amount of difficulty for me (I was travelling alone with 4 kids). They arranged for the ski rental company to collect us to be fitted and bring us back again. And at the end of the trip we left all the ski gear in the hotel rather than having to return it all the way back to the rental shop, which was also very convenient.

The little restaurant served excellent food - mostly European rather than Japanese but one famous sushi chef was there for one night, which was fantastic. The view from the restaurant over the mountain was beautiful.

The location is fantastic - you can ski into the hotel from almost any high point on the mountain as long as there's enough snow for most of the runs to be open.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful - very highly recommended hotel! Thank you so much Marillen!

The Hotel Marillen is the real-deal; authentic and cozy ( like staying in a hotel in the German Alps) and its location, directly on the ski slope, is unbeatable. If there were Olympic medals for hospitality, then hosts Naoko and Bernd would win Gold in every category. Their staff are professional and friendly providing exceptional service. The German restaurant is also first class and we thoroughly enjoyed the big breakfast, lunch and evening dinner. Our stay was short but we came away thoroughly relaxed. We will definitely be back again - whether with snow or without!

If you are coming to Nagano to ski/snowboard or just to visit, THIS is the place to stay! This cozy bed and breakfast was absolutely amazing. The food, our room, the view, and location were all top notch. The hosts ensured our stay was nothing short of excellent! We were provided rides to various slopes around Hakuba and additionally the hosts arranged our ski rentals for us. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delicious and we were served a special Christmas dinner meal which consisted of 7 courses. Don’t look any further, Marillen Hotel will provide you the best comfort and pleasure for any stay in Nagano!

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in the Marillen hotel. The owners Bernd and his wife Naoko, along with their staff, were genuinely friendly hosts and were extremely accommodating throughout. The room was comfortable and cosy, the food was tasty (both breakfast and dinner) and the location was perfect. We were unfortunate to not have had much snow during the stay so didn't get to enjoy the slope outside the hotel, but we imagine that it is brilliant during peak season.

We highly recommend this hotel!

We have had the most wonderful weekend away because of our stay at this hotel. They went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable and help us get around. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious! We also ate dinner at the restaurant and it was an incredible experience, great service, food was excellent and live entertainment. The kids could go sledding right out front and the skiing was right there!!! We will be recommending this place to everyone and will definitely be back.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Hakuba valley. Unfortunately the season hasn't been the best this year but we still had plenty of snow to ski on and this was topped up with 2 days of good snow while we were there.
We have stayed at The Marillen (the location at the base (literally) of the Happo One chair) before and would not have changed our hotel as it is just excellent and this has been reinforced with this visit. Bernd and Naoko who are the owners are just wonderful.
Once again the Marillen just folds you in and takes such good care of you. From the minute you are picked up at the Hakuba station till you are dropped off at the end of your stay.
Also if you wish to ski one of the other fields Bernd shuttles you there and back and drops off for an icecream on your way home if your lucky.
The rooms are large with a super comfortable bed and the view from our room was lovely and great to check out the look of the mountain for that days ski. Internet was good and the room heating can be adjusted in your room. You also have a kettle with tea and coffee and a small bar fridge. There are 4 English speaking Satellite channels which includes BBC.
The restaurant is so good and the freshly cooked breakfasts were excellent as well as the bar for a late nightcap.
I have to also mention the friendliness of the staff which is a credit to the hotel.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday

As first time visitors to both Japan and the snow we have had an absolutely awsome time. Bernd and Naoko run a very efficient and friendly operation. The assistance and personal service is excellent. Have spent many years ravelling and working out of hotels their professionalisim and personal attention to guests is amazing.
To people who have never seen snow their assistance and patience with us was amazing.
The staff are also excellent with their friendly and professional attitude.
Will definitely recommend the Marillen to all who wish to visit the area.

We had a wonderful 6 nights at The Marillen. Bernd and Naoko we’re extraordinary hosts, and along with all the other staff, who were so friendly and happy, made our stay smooth, worry free and above all fun. For a bunch of over 60s still scratching around the slopes, we had a great time. Bernd in particular advised and delivered us to the best skiing each day, and other attractions such as the best ice cream in the world!!!

Having access to the Onsen at the Springs Hotel was great, we became Onsen addicts and used it every night after a hard day on the slopes.

We were a bit unlucky that the snow wasn’t so good down low and missed out on Marillen’s ski in ski out capacity, but that was just the luck of the game. Next time hopefully for us.

Accommodation was excellent, and Pork Knuckle a goer by the way!!!!

There is not enough room here to say how fantastic our experience was at the Marillen hotel. I could rave about the hotel itself, the beautiful rooms, the magnificent views and prime location. I could outline all the extra services they offer such as personal shuttle service , onsen arrangement, fabulous on site restaurant with entertainment and magnificent breakfast fare. However the real treasure of this place is the people who run it. Every
single staff member treats you as if you are the most important person in the hotel. Nothing is too difficult, if they can help they will. This service begain months before we had arrived. Coming from Australia I was finding it difficult to work out how to get to Hakuba from Tokyo. I emailed the Marillien six months before our trip. Within ten minutes they had answered sending links and explaining the best way to get here. This level of service continued throughout our trip. When my husband lost his ski pass ( embarrassingly it was in his jacket all along ) they were making calls to help us out. Again, when trying to work out how to get back to Haneda airport, they were there to help us book. The vibe of this hotel is amazing. The owners, Bernd and Naoko are just lovely genuine people who are so knowledgeable about this area. We treated the rides to the different ski fields with Bernd as a tour in itself! If you are coming to Hakuba book as early as you can to make sure you get the chance to experience the Marillen.
