From the moment we arrived until we checked out, every part of our stay was outstanding. Marillen hotel is cozy, clean, and the staff is incredibly professional. Without question, the best bed and breakfast I’ve ever stayed at. Extremely friendly to foreign visitors (we only speak English.) With the slopes right outside your window and the amazing restaurant and bar with a view, it has everything you need for an amazing vacation. We ate here for just about every single meal and the cuisine was outstanding. Excellent selection for drinks as well. They even pick you up from the bus station when you arrive. Look no further, stay here and relax!

If you are coming to Nagano to ski/snowboard or just to visit, THIS is the place to stay! This cozy bed and breakfast was absolutely amazing. The food, our room, the view, and location were all top notch. The hosts ensured our stay was nothing short of excellent! We were provided rides to various slopes around Hakuba and additionally the hosts arranged our ski rentals for us. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delicious and we were served a special Christmas dinner meal which consisted of 7 courses. Don’t look any further, Marillen Hotel will provide you the best comfort and pleasure for any stay in Nagano!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Hakuba valley. Unfortunately the season hasn't been the best this year but we still had plenty of snow to ski on and this was topped up with 2 days of good snow while we were there. We have stayed at The Marillen (the location at the base (literally) of the Happo One chair) before and would not have changed our hotel as it is just excellent and this has been reinforced with this visit. Bernd and Naoko who are the owners are just wonderful. Once again the Marillen just folds you in and takes such good care of you. From the minute you are picked up at the Hakuba station till you are dropped off at the end of your stay. Also if you wish to ski one of the other fields Bernd shuttles you there and back and drops off for an icecream on your way home if your lucky. The rooms are large with a super comfortable bed and the view from our room was lovely and great to check out the look of the mountain for that days ski. Internet was good and the room heating can be adjusted in your room. You also have a kettle with tea and coffee and a small bar fridge. There are 4 English speaking Satellite channels which includes BBC. The restaurant is so good and the freshly cooked breakfasts were excellent as well as the bar for a late nightcap. I have to also mention the friendliness of the staff which is a credit to the hotel. Thank you for a wonderful holiday

Bernd and Naoko are amazing hosts - and all the other staff are too! We stayed for 6 nights during ski season with our two kids aged 9 and 11. Anything we needed to know - they knew or found out for us. Anywhere we wanted to go - they took us. If we wanted to go to the next ski resort they didn’t want us to get the bus - they took us and picked us up when we were finished. The food was delicious, warming comfort foods - great steaks, slow cooked salmon, beef stew and a chocolate fondue to die for. Cosy log fire - excellent acoustic entertainers. Great location - ski in/out. Super comfortable fluffy bedding and pillows. Very clean and warm. We stayed in a swanky hotel in Kyoto after the Marillen - but the beds were uncomfortable, the room was SO noisy you could hear other guests using the toilet and trains rattling down the tracks. The Marillen may not have a pool or some of those 5 star facilities but it sure was 5 star at being friendly and cozy, with a great homely vibe. Short walk to other great places to eat too. Oh.... and free use of washing machines and dryers with detergent included (no coins yay), free use of kids sledges and a brilliant drying room. Oh god - I cant shut up! The kids cried when we left - highly recommended - I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Hakuba - especially with kids.

We had a wonderful 6 nights at The Marillen. Bernd and Naoko we’re extraordinary hosts, and along with all the other staff, who were so friendly and happy, made our stay smooth, worry free and above all fun. For a bunch of over 60s still scratching around the slopes, we had a great time. Bernd in particular advised and delivered us to the best skiing each day, and other attractions such as the best ice cream in the world!!! Having access to the Onsen at the Springs Hotel was great, we became Onsen addicts and used it every night after a hard day on the slopes. We were a bit unlucky that the snow wasn’t so good down low and missed out on Marillen’s ski in ski out capacity, but that was just the luck of the game. Next time hopefully for us. Accommodation was excellent, and Pork Knuckle a goer by the way!!!! Tony, Chris, Dave and Cheryl
