Detailed Reviews
Great little lodge in Echoland, beautifully renovated recently. Staff were phenomenal and couldn’t be more helpful with ski hill suggestions in the morning, finding places to eat and making the bookings for the same while being all around nice people.
Rooms are well equipped and maintained, bathrooms are shared but in great condition with toilets on both levels and multiple showers.
Lodge is situated an easy 5 minutes walk to the main street with many dining options, none bad. Shuttle service to ski hills and to any out of the way restaurants was no issue. Will definitely stay again when we come back to Hakuba.

We had the best Hakuba skiing trip to experience at Sheltered Inn! The lodge was suitable for a big group trip, having sizable lounge space, several bathrooms and showers, and a spacious kitchen with all the equipment in place. There are many restaurants in walkable distances for dinners and drinks at Echoland. Above all, the host Geoff was such a great host and welcomed us with warm hospitality. Whenever we had issues he was always there to help. It was beyond the expectations and we couldn't have hoped for a better place. I would recommend this place to anyone who's going to Hakuba!

We just experienced our best skiing holiday ever. Everything was just perfect, from being picked up from the bus terminal, a guided tour around Echoland with recommendations for dining out, shuttles to and from the best recommended ski resort for the day (depending on conditions), loading and unloading of all your ski gear each day, the fantastic 'home feel' accommodation with a great communal lounge room where guests met, board games played and a record player which brought back old memories. We attended private Japanese cooking classes over the road arranged by the awesome team, were taken to an incredible Onsen and were basically treated like rockstars the whole time. I've never met a more hospitable and friendly team than Viktor, Jana (who teaches sushi making), Jack and Amy. Thank you guys. We're looking forward to coming back!

We were a large group looking for somewhere that would fit our big and tall group. The rooms at Sheltered Inn and the beds were large and gave us heaps of private space and the common area, lounge and kitchen were big enough to allow us to be together but not on top of one another. There are four really modern and clean bathrooms which worked really well. Fantastic to have a laundry and drying room for the group. If you book the entire chalet, the van comes too and that was an absolute bonus, we could not have enjoyed the valley without the van it was so valuable. There was a coffee machine in the kitchen that worked overtime while we visited, some of the best coffee we have had anywhere! The kitchen worked well for us and there was nothing we needed or felt was missing. Geoff provided some advice on local restaurants and booking and we enjoyed some of the best dining experiences in Japan to date. This option is a no brainer and we will definitely be returning guests, there was nothing that we could suggest to improve the place.

We just spent a week at sheltered and we couldn’t to be happier with our choice of accommodation!! Nothing was ever too hard or a problem for the staff who drove us around like they were our own personal chauffeurs, and were always making sure we had everything we needed. The lodge is clean and comfortable and although the rooms don’t have en-suites it wasn’t an issue as there are 4 bathrooms of which a couple were recently renovated. It’s located 10-15 minute walk to the main area of Echoland which was a nice walk after dinner! Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to go back! Thanks for a great skiing holiday!

This was my second stay at the Sheltered Inn. After spending a week there last year I returned this year for a double length of a stay. I couldn’t wait yo get back to the Sheltered Inn and be surrounded by the mountains of Hakuba. The sheltered inn provides everything you could need on a holiday; transportation to where you need to go (ie: the mountains) and back again, breakfast included, along with cooking space, laundry facilities and killer company with the hosts who run the inn. The crew will do everything in their power to try and help you or provide advice on cool things to do, see and eat. They’ll make you reservations for dinner and drop you off. With the inn being a short 10 min walk to the heat of Echoland.

Our stay here was simply outstanding and wonderful. Viktor and Jack were beyond delightful, friendly and had so much initiative to help us even before we could anticipate our needs and constantly threw out tips and recommendations whenever we needed them. I don't think I've ever met such hospitable people who made me feel so welcomed and at home, always so happy to lend a helping hand. They're truly such gems and I would definitely love to stay here again because of them.
The hotel itself was really chic and nice. Extremely clean and I loved it so much! Great view of the snow from our room and it was truly a great experience.
Thank you so much guys!

From the outset of our experience the staff went above and beyond. When collecting us from the bus terminal 2 vans came one to give us a tour and layout of village and the second to take our gear. Our tour gave us all the popular locations along with several recommendations which were all spot on. This was just the start , the accommodation was fantastic ( only need look at there photos not photo shopped) location was great. Breakfast outstanding but most of all the staff and there willingness to do anything to make your holiday easy and memorable. You only need get to Hakuba and they do the rest. Thanks Victor , Jake ,Jana and Amy. This team will give you a snow experience you haven’t had before. 20 years doing snow trips and this one was by far superior. Well done to staff and owner

I love this place so much I’ve just returned for my 3rd time. I brought 7 other friends and family who were just as impressed. The location is ideal being close to restaurants, but in the quiet area of Echoland. The tastefully renovated lodge is beautiful and always clean and the breakfast provided is a bonus. What sets this place apart from all others most though, is the hospitality and service. Viktor, Jana, Jack and Amy are all so lovely and go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Whether getting to the mountain or restaurants loading your gear onto cars, nothing is too much trouble. Thanks guys. We’ll be back!
