Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 6 nights at Wadano Forest Hotel and couldn't have picked a better place to stay.
First off the location seems not central, but you can pretty much go to everywhere you need to get to from this area. If you catch a snow shuttle into town when you arrive and are waiting at either bus terminal in Happo or Echoland, give the AMAZING staff a call & they'll most likely arrange a pick up for you & all your luggage.
The Sakka slope is a very quick walk down the road (or you can ride there from across the road). From there, you can get to most places in the Happo area by the local loop buses. There are also a bunch of restaurants within walking distance (5mins).
Our room was quite large and very clean. Everything about the bed was so comfortable. The shower was clean & spacious, with great water pressure. The toilet was clean and in a separate room from the shower. Basic tea, coffee, a fridge & a kettle were provided.
The free breakfast is pretty good. Always some hot dishes which varied daily, with other basics, such as toast, cereal, tea, coffee, etc. The breakfast dining is in a separate building, so you have to rug up and switch from your slippers (they provide them) for shoes to get there, but its worth it.
I did not check out the Onsen, but I was told that it was really, really nice.
Finally, Becky and Tom, went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. They are so helpful to everyone. They can help out with dinner bookings, restaurant suggestions, local recommendations, etc. If you need anything, they do their best to help.
I highly recommended this hotel and can't wait to come back!

I was travelling to Hakuba with my 5 year old son and stayed here for 4 nights.
The rooms are basic, but very clean. The staff is where this hotel really shines. They are helpful at every turn, be it organizing restaurants, drops to locations, or just having a friendly chat. I ran out of moisturizer, and they were nice enough to get it for me from the pharmacy while they were going to drop another guest there. The breakfast is good, though can get a bit repetitive.
The onsen is really nice. I'm surprised that on all three days we were there, it was completely empty other than us. Most of the other guests seemed to be from Australia, so maybe they don't value the onsen as a service.
Finally, notes for improvement. The laundry room is tiny - one washing machine and dryer are not really enough for a 20 room hotel. I did have to wait once or twice to put my wash in, but it wasn't crazy busy, and I did manage to get my clothes washed and dried without too much drama. The drying room is large enough, and fits everyone's skis, boards and boots, but it isn't laid out well enough to fit jackets, gloves, and helmets very well. A few more shelves would be pretty helpful.

Josh and his team were excellent in helping us with recommending where to go to eat and drink and ski. Great location, had no trouble getting around with great bars close. Skiing was great too. Room was comfortable and roomy.

Great place! I left the family behind for a solo trip away for a weeks skiing. I arrived at midnight, friendly note and key left at front desk. My room was very clean and comfortable and looked out over the peaceful forest. The room information folder was really detailed and seriously helpful! The ski and boot room is well located next to the front door. Breakfast included hot and cold options. Josh and staff really helpful including drop offs to various locations in the Happo-One and Hukuba, restaurant bookings, and generally very knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the onsen looking out on the forest. Highly recommend!

Excellent service and very accommodating.
Our room was great, spacious with a king bed, clean, with a good heater and awesome view.
Location was walking distance from Saiko ski lifts and the first pickup for the free shuttle service to other resorts (which means you always get a spot on the bus). Walking distance to a variety of restaurants, and also lovely and quiet.

We were there when the hotel just opened under the new management. One of thing that quickly jump up as we thought of our experience is the hospitality shown by the hotel especially Josh. Though we as family do not ski, he brought us around town and offered a lot of tips on what to do on our holiday.
The view offers a good combination of snow cap mountain and forest, and room is comfortable. Surely will recommend to my friends.

+1
I stayed for 6 nights in December 2016, and was one of the first guests after the hotel had reopened. The rooms are enormous, and the staff are lovely and more than willing to help with advice, ski hire, and rides up and down the hill into town.
Breakfast was large and delicious, and is served in the building next door. I recommend getting a seat near the heater though!
My only negative of this hotel is that it's a fair way out of the main area. It's about a 30min walk up the hill from the Hakuba Information centre, and buses up the hill are fairly infrequent. Asking politely at reception always got me a ride though!
Definitely try the onsen. It's lovely after a long day of skiing.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

My Son and I stayed recently at the Wadano Forest Hotel which was a very enjoyable experience. We were warmly welcomed and looked after during our Stay. Great facilities and location. The team of Joanie,Jamie,Raymond and Sai, were always on hand to help anyway they can with local advise, booking restaurant or private drop offs and pick ups from Sakka and Gondola each morning and evening. Highly recomend to anyone and they have fantastic accomodation, meals and Onsen. See you again I am sure.Jason

I can't speak highly enough of the level of service from Joanie at wadano forest hotel. Great knowledge of the area and always will to help out where possible. It made our stay in feb for me and my partner so much easier.
The hotel is just a short walk (5mins) to the sakka slope (beginner slope at happo-one). This means you can totally avoid the shuttle bus all together and from Sakka you still have full access to the mountain.
The room we had was a decent size, clean and bathroom was nice and large too. Some hanging space & hangers were provided, which was super handy. Ski lockers down stairs, male and female onsen and some vending machines for beers & drinks. Wi-fi was pretty decent and also could get a chrome cast i think it was from reception to log into your netflix etc. The lounge next door was a great space to utilize in the evenings and socialise with other guests. It really does have everything you need.
Our stay here it really was fantastic and i will be staying here again.
