A very comfortable hotel (although getting a bit rough and tired around the edges). Very friendly and helpful staff and a decent sized breakfast. Good size rooms and just a few minutes walk from the bus terminus and main eating areas in Happo. Would def stay again in the future
Our first visit to Hakuba we naturally left our accomodation quite late and booked one of the only rooms within our price range available. Oh what a diamond in the rough we found! Located only a few min walk from the the Happo Bus Terminal (drop off for the Nagano -> Hakuba express bus) this little gem has only 14 rooms with most being traditional Japanese (tatami mats, floor bed style). Happo slopes are walking distance but probably slightly too far to walk in ski boots, you can also get a free shuttle to Goryu Iimori slopes from the Panorama Hotel (2min walk). From the moment we first got here we were welcomed with friendly and informative staff who gave local advice frequently. Room was large with plenty of storage space and an amazing view of the Happo slopes (mountain view room). Facilities in the hotel were on point with washer and dryer (washing cycle - $Y200, drying cycle(30min) - $Y200), ski equipment storage room and a private Onsen. Breakfast was served daily on level 2 with a mix of Japanese and westerner style food available. Can’t praise this place enough, everything was so welcoming and homely, you really felt like one of the family with the friendliness of the staff. On my next trip to Hakuba (believe me the house will get re-mortgaged to accomodate) I’ll definitely be staying here again!…
We had an amazing time in Happokan. The food is top notch... in All honesty the quality of dinner is exceptional...great skiroom and good rooms. Easy walking distance to the resort , bus station and bars... We def. will be back
My husband and I stayed for 10 nights at Happokan and loved everything about it. The location, the Japanese style room, which was spacious, clean and super comfortable. The Japanese breakfasts were delicious! The chef created a different dish for us every single morning, such a special touch and oh so oishii! The whole Happokan team were so very friendly and helpful, we felt welcome and at home as soon as we walked through the doors. Oh, and the onsite onsen.... we were both lucky to get these to ourselves most days, what a treat! We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend.
I would highly recommend this Ryokan to anyone looking to stay in Hakuba. At first sight the interior looks a little dated. However this is no different from other ryokans in Japanese ski resorts that I have patronized. Happokan offers excellent service. Noriko Maruyama pays attention to all the little details in every conversation. She will look into them the very day or have something the next morning. Impressive! She is very accommodating compared to the bigger hotels. Great location too. Close to the bus station, ski shop and walking distance to most restaurants.
