The hospitality is exceptional and the staff's thoughtfulness is heartwarming. The bath and onsen were spot on after a day's of skiing. The location cannot be more convenient as most shuttle bus has a stops right outside the hotel. Food-wise, every morning we woke up to nice strong coffee, warm crusty pastries + eggs cooked in different ways and/or yogurt which certainly fueled our skiing for the day. We did not try the restaurant as we wanted to have more japanese food experience - next time! We will definitely return in our next trip to Hakuba.
This February 2018 was our 4th visit to Hakuba and the Hotel Traumerei. It's time I write a review of this awesome Hotel .... it may not be a 5 Star property but the service, ambience and food in their French Restaurant certainly is ! Back in 2015 when we made our first booking through an agent, they offered us a few options for accommodations and my husband and I chose the Traumerei because it has a French restaurant and the facade of the hotel looks so 'fairytale" set in the snow. Hence, begin our annual visit to Hakuba! Thank you for your exceptional hospitality Nishino-san and the excellent and attentive service of all your staff, in particular Yumiko-san (at the reception) and Karuo-san who would sometimes drive me to the ski slopes for my lesson and picks me up. I wish I could speak Japanese so that I am able to interact with them more. Fast forward ...... 4 years later, it's like going back to second home, with the familiar faces and surroundings and the same room! You have read the other reviews, from the moment you get picked up at the Bus station and arriving in the hotel ... so I need not say more. But I agree, I love the creme brûlée haha! But do book at least one dinner in their French restaurant, you won't regret it. Nishino-san is not just a hotelier, he is a passionate owner of this hotel he built 36 years ago! His love for this place and what he does is reflected in his genuine hospitality. He speaks to every guest that walks through his hotel and restaurant and he loves to offer them a drink and to get to know each of his guests. His knowledge of French wines and sake is amazing and is always so generous to share his collection of wines with his guests. Some evenings he even dons his chef uniform and whips up his signature okonomiyaki and Yakiudon behind the bar counter while we sit and sip wine and await our dinner!! Evenings like these, we eat, drink and chat till late in the night and next morning at 7.30 am the same staff who bid us goodnight the previous night is there knocking on our door to serve breakfast! OMG! don't they sleep? Truly, you must experience this yourself ..... don't take my words for it! The last 2 years we have brought friends with us to experience the unique Traumerei hospitality and the wonderful Hakuba experience .... snow, ski, food, onsen, etc etc. Looking forward to February 2019 ..... Traumerei .... here we come!…
We finished our skiing holiday in Hakuba Valley with a stay in Hotel Traumerei. The tone was set immediately upon checkin when we were invited to take a seat and enjoy the best creme caramel I've ever tasted an a piping hot cup of camomile tea. The rooms are well appointed and very large by Japanese standards. The full size bath was a welcome luxury, as were the two bookable private onsens downstairs. The owner, Nishino-san, is as passionate about wine as he is about his hotel that he designed 36+ years ago. If you're looking for a touch of luxury in the snow, you can't go past Hotel Traumerei.
We absolutely loved our time at Traumerei. We were picked up from the station by sweet smiling Kaoru and enjoyed many drop offs and pick ups during our 3 day/night stay. When we arrived the lovely receptionist gave us tea and creme caramel and chatted about our requirements. The dinners were absolutely amazing every night; top quality produce perfectly presented. The French wine options were great. Breakfast was terrific; croissants and really lovely strong coffee with hot milk if needed. There was also a free laundry service! Hotel was close to Hakuba47. The onsen was very welcome after skiing. Internet was good. Enjoyed a drink with Ryo Nishino; the hotel is his much loved 'baby'. Everything and everyone was awesome. Can't wait to return.
Beautiful hotel in a great location to skiing areas. The rooms are small and need updating, but the staff is so friendly. The owner is a gem. He knows a lot about wine and is happy to share his knowledge as well as his inventory. Super friendly. The in-room breakfast is on a sweet side, unless you request eggs and savory items and they are happy to accommodate the request.
Food is simply of the highest quality. Service is also of the highest quality. So happy my wonderful wife took me to this extraordinary restaurant. Very understated environment but so very good. Great new onsen. Bedrooms could be better but we came for the food and it was one of the best meals I have had EVER!
The staff were very friendly , but the language barrier was very difficult. Breakfast had to be in your room only and not in the resturant and croissants jam and tea / coffee for breakfast. Well i dont eat those and it took 10 min to explain this. Our room was so small and shaped like a letter c with the bathroom right in te middle . The fridge had 3 legs and to be honest we had to walk around ea other as the space was cramped. We were booked for 9 nights stayed 1 and booked else where as soon as we could pack and leave the next morning wasnt soon enough. The heated room for snow gear wasn't hot- not even warm. But as i said they were very nice there and ver pleasing. Has internet but its very slow
We started our Japan holiday at the Traumerei and we couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome to this beautiful country. We were greeted by the staff at the bus stand and she drove us to the hotel, partly covered in snow, we couldn't get enough of the magnificent structure. The room was spacious, clean and warm; with little windows overlooking the snow capped peaks. The staff was always available and arranged for someone to drive us to and from all our destinations in Hakuba in our 2 night stay. On the second night we were greeted at the bar by the owner Ryo Nishino, who as all the reviews suggest is just an amazing gentlemen, he gives you the feeling that you've been welcomed to his home and not his hotel and that's exactly how he treats his staff, who've been with him for 20 years! He opened his delicious wine collection for us and we were later welcomed to join him and his friends for a few more drinks. The wine and conversations didn't stop all night. We even offered to buy a bottle, but they still didn't charge us at check out. In fact they left us with box of yummy Japanese chocolates before dropping us to the station. We booked this hotel over the more popular destinations because of all the reviews we read, and as you can see from mine, it didn't disappoint. When we mentioned TripAdvisor to the owner, he didn't even know the site! We read out some of the reviews to him and you could see how touched he was. We can't get over such hospitality, it feels like it's not for the reviews or the business, but it's just the warmth of the people who run it. If you're just looking for a place to stay in Hakuba you'll easily find a hotel, if you're looking for an experience, book the Traumerei. We really didn't want to leave, this was the highlight of our trip.…
This stay was an amazing experience that just kept giving! Nishino the owner was lovely to deal with on the phone when I made my booking. He organised a complimentary pick up for us from hakuba station (we then enjoyed several complimentary pick up and drop offs during our stay from the always accommodating and friendly staff). The sight of the hotel after our journey from Tokyo was just beautiful. It was covered in snow and looked like it was out of a fairy tale. Nishino greeted us the first night with a fun night in with special fine French wines and sake (and I previously thought I didn't like sake!) He truly enjoyed spending time with us and we certainly enjoyed his vibrant personality. It is obvious he really cares about his guests. The onsen (available for 50 min private booking) was such a welcome relief after a day on the slopes. 8 course French dinner designed by Michelin chef was outstanding and cooked perfectly each night. Twin bedrooms were comfortable and roomy. Waking up to the view of falling snow out the window and fresh baked pastries and fruit every morning was the perfect start to the day. If I ever have the pleasure to stay in Hakuba again I will come to visit Nishino again in his lovely hotel!…
Spent three nights at Traumarei and loved every one! Highlights for us: - the staff are all lovely and constantly go above and beyond to ensure your experience is A1. We were chauffeured around Hakuba as required at no cost. The owner is a great bloke and took the time to have drinks with us one evening, sharing some of his private wine and sake; he is a real connoisseur! - the private onsen is well appointed and fantastic after a day on the ski slopes - the rooms are clean and very comfortable and quite spacious - breakfast! Freshly baked croissants and bread, tea/coffee and fruit delivered to your room every morning. Fantastic!!! - dinner....I don't even know where to start! 8 course French meals were included as part of our accommodation package. Absolutely amazing food. French with a Japanese twist. Foie gras, wagyu, sashimi, lobster...too much to mention with a wine list to much. Overall this was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend a visit. We will be back! And also, the snow here is amazing! …
