This place was absolutely amazing! The hotel is close to the ski resortes and a 7 min walk to the bus stop and about a 12 min walk to the rental shop. I definitely Recommend the breakfast it is very delicious! The hotel has three private onsen, the big one has to be reserved and only for 30min. We stayed in room 202 it was a ryokan the bathroom was right across from the room. The showers are downstairs combine with the onsen. This was perfect after being on the mountains all day. The hotel is also close to restaurants. The experience was fantastic and the hospitality is the best I’ve ever experienced.
My partner and I had such a special stay at Kunugi! It was a very cozy and personal experience. The hosts truly cared about making our stay amazing from recommending where we rent our equipment, how the snow conditions were and even drove us to the bus station. soaking in the private, open air onsen after a long day of skiing was incredible. We also had a very delicious dinner, the best dinner we had in Japan! We will be back soon, thank you so much!
We wish we could rate our time at Kunugi higher than 5/5. After coming to Japan from Canada for our honeymoon, and the first week in the big cities, spending a week at this ryokan was a dream come true. The owners take maticulous care of the facility. The onsens are absolutely top notch, especially the outdoor one (with total privacy, you get to book it 40 minutes per day). And the food is undoubtedly delicious; they even accommodated our dietary restrictions of no pork or beef. Make sure you reserve a dinner, as the food was some of the best we had on our entire trip. They exclusively cook dinner for guests, so once again it is a relatively private experience. Thank you so much for the team at Kunugi that made us feel so special during our honeymoon. We hope to be back one day!
Ryoji and Junko, our hosts, were fantastic, picking us up from the bus terminal and even dropping us at the slopes when time allowed. The attention to detail across the whole boutique hotel was second to none. Breakfast was a highlight with fresh baked bread on a couple of morning. If you have booked think about taking a nice bottle of wine for Ryoji as a gift. It will be greatly appreciated. Thank you Kunugi. The only place to stay in Echoland.
This is such a lovely place to stay! Ryoji has been running this hotel since the 1998 Nagano olympics, and he's found a great formula. He's super friendly and is always willing to help guests with travel advice, arranging things (taxis, when shuttles leave, etc). He and his family went to great lengths to make our stay wonderful. The hotel itself is very comfy, and the meals each morning were different and tasty. The onsen on site is such a wonderful thing to come back to after a day skiing, and we took full advantage of them each day! Dinner was a lovely experience and would definitely recommend at least once. A short 3 minute walk to the Hakuba chapel shuttle stop, and then down the main road in Echolands, this is a great place to stay and would highly recommend it!
