The hotel has a wooden charm about it. It had a very nice onsen which is well managed and with outdoor snow experience. The view from the hotel was amazing, you could see the entire mountain range and valley. It was total bliss. The hotel staff was kind and cooperative. Its located 15 min walk from the station and I would recommend you take that walk as it's very scenic ( if you have less luggage). The breakfast was good and the coffee was very good. I would like to visit this town again someday. The price was a very good value for room and facilities.
Stayed 2 nights here, a standard sized hotel room. Hotel staff picks you up from the Hakuba Train Station, else its a 15 min walk (uphill) to the hotel. Breakfast and dinner variety was great, nice quality of food and friendly staff. Try the tempura! Its amazing! There are 2 onsens in the building to try out, really nice with indoor and outdoor ones. However, shuttles to nearby ski resorts and back can be confusing, be sure to clarify before you head out.
Stayed for a night to check out the Autumn views of Hakuba Highlands but it wasn't to be as the weather was hotter than usual. Fortunately, the hotel was lovely, so well kept and clean despite it's age. Dinner was good, not quite the large variety in most ryokan style hotels but the quality especially the grilled beef was succulent. Breakfast was as expected with both Japanese and Western favorites. The highlight of the hotel are the onsens. They have a public bath (open to outside guests) and another only for hotel guests in addition to private rooms one can book for a fee. All the onsens face the mountain range so the views are marvellous but I'm sure it would be even better during winter. Overall it is a was very good night stop with no complaints whatsoever.
I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights for my end of January ski trip. The hotel is 15 minutes walk away from the Hakuba train station. Though the hotel is very obliging to send a driver down to pick you up or drive you into town. There are transport to all ski fields just check with reception. You can also get lift tickets from the hotel which is very convenient. There's a ski rental near the hotel which provide discount if you're not fussy about the type of ski you get. I find the best part of the hotel is the outdoor onsen with a view to the Hakuba valley and the mountain. Fantastic view and very relaxing.
We stayed here overnight after a long day of skiing. We were so tired and we just want to have a nice bath and a dinner and this hotel doesn't disappoint. We reserved a private onsen for 50 minutes for only ¥3000! (guessing that it's not peak season anymore やった!) And to our surprise, the room was too big for the two of us with fancy amenities and all. Then, we had dinner, a buffet dinner, with a lot of choices and mochis!!! I cannot forget how delish the gizzards were and the sweet potato and the sweet bean soup and the mochi! The husband loves the steak so much. We were really happy we stayed here. There's water dispenser everywhere and also a (unlimited) coffee service in the lobby with a good view and a fireplace. Oh, the room is average, clean bathroom with amenities and there's welcome tea and snacks. p.s. hotel has a shuttle bus and btw, we booked a mountain view (amazing view) room with breakfast & dinner and I believe it's a best option if you don't have a car. …
The views from this hotel are stunning, especially their onsen ❤️ We enjoyed snow capped mountain view and loved this onsen! 700 yen entry for non guests (from 11am) and 300 yen towel hire. Worth every cent. Put this on your must do list
The onsen at Hakuba Highland Hotel was recommended to us by the owner of our accommodation. We took two taxis to get there for our group of 8. It was our first ever onsen experience - we followed all the onsen etiquette of washing thoroughly and bathing seperately (males and females). The outside onsen has a wonderful view of the Japanese Alps - just magical!!!
We were 7 ppl and had 3 rooms. The hotel location is a bit away from the main town. But given it is on slightly higher ground the views from the mountain facing rooms are nice. The onsen is very nice and the views from the onsen are beautiful. The staff are friendly and very good service. They gave us an option of vouchers instead of everday cleaning and we could use this in the gift shop and for alcohol. The only downside was that the dinner and breakfast was almost the same everyday and since we stayed for 5 days it got boring and the only other option was to go into the town. Overall a good experience.
It fell short of expectations when we saw the guest room, because the actual impression is so much different from the photos displayed on the hotel's home page. We reserved one of the best guest rooms on the top floor. However, the room is so old, just like a past local-government-made accommodation. There are two public bath facilities. One of them is new. The pillars and ceiling of the bathroom are made of giant cypress trees. It is an extremely precious existence in this era. A bathing people can enjoy watching white Hakuba mountain ranges in a 41℃-Hot-spring water. All hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel turned its policy, and all guest rooms became smoke-free from April 2018.
We stayed here for a day to let the children have some fun at the nearby ski resort. There are two onsen at this hotel and one is only recently constructed which is very new. Temperature of the onsen is about 41-42 degrees. There is also outdoor onsen which I didn't try as the weather was really cold in the outdoors. The rooms are pretty dated and furnitures are old. I chose the rooms with the alps view and they are amazing. The rooms are not too bid just the appropriate size. The rooms are clean and well appropriated in terms of amenities. Overall quite a good experience.
