Stayed for one night to visit the Snow Monkeys and Obuse. Every area of the hotel is meticulously maintained with exceptional attention to detail. The private onsen was beautiful and being able to be outdoors with snow on the ground was a special experience. Breakfast was served with great courtesy and brief introductions to the items served which enhanced the experience. The lounge, with self service coffee and tea station, as well as the selection of books (mostly in Japanese) and western classical music CDs was like a throw back to a more elegant and relaxed era.

This hotel is ideal when you visit the Snow Monkey Park, located a few minute walk to the entrance to the trail that leads to the Snow Monkey Park. The hotel looks western (and its name is "hotel"), but it is actually a Japanese style "ryokan" inside. You can enjoy spacious tatami room with futon. Staff were very caring and polite. Facilities including guest rooms, dining rooms, ONSEN, lounge, and pool are meticulously cleaned. They offer Yukata (Japanese bathrobe twice in a day, one for evening and another for morning). There is a public bus service from a nearby-museum (6-7 minutes walk from the hotel) to Yudanake if you would like to dine outside Kanbayashi.

We, a group of 4 from Malaysia, came here to see the snow monkeys. We stayed 2 nights. Wonderful experience. Abit expensive but worth it!
This hotel is the nearest to the park. Clean, polite staff and with spacious lobby, corridors and rooms. We took the traditional tatami rooms. We were smitten by the understated elegance, neo-traditional Japanese deco and by the swimming pool, ( very few Japanese hotel have pools ) and both the public and private onsen as well as the beautiful art works. Do check out the antique ink drawings that lined the walls.
The onsen both indoor and outdoor are awesome, well designed and clean. We had the public onsen all to ourselves as there weren’t many guests. The onsen experience was fantastic especially in winter with falling snow.
The breakfast is a Wow! Do take the Japanese breakfast ( the alternative is Western)
The dinner is excellent too and need to book early when you book the hotel ( however if you didn’t, do try dinner at the Farmhouse restaurant just 8 mins walk. Their roast chicken is 5*****)
We found the ice cream and ice yogurt at the hotel convenient shop simply divine!
Rooms as I mentioned earlier, large with high ceiling and traditional deco with tatami floor, a balcony with lovely garden view and equipped besides the usual TV, hot water dispenser and fridge, there is a tea set and generous bottles of body lotions to mositurise your skin. Wifi is good. Every evening while we were having our dinner, the futons will magically appear and will disappear after breakfast.
My only issue is there isn’t a humidifier and the air can be rather dry at night especially with the heater on and the windows closed and TV programmes rather limited. No CNN or even English NHK.
They have a free shuttle bus to town to pick us from the Yudanaka train station and send us there on checking out
We had a memorable stay here and certainly recommend this hotel to any hesitant visitor.

The Japanese style room was so beautiful! Loved the traditional style! The Japanese breakfast and dinner tasted amazing and definitely the best food experience of my trip! The rest of the family had a western breakfast and it looked great too! The hotel was beautiful and close access towards the snow monkeys. The private baths were great to hire as it offered both inside and an outdoor bath. This place was an excellent stay!

Stayed here for two nights while visiting the Snow Monkey Park which is just a short stroll to the Park entrance.

The service from Front Desk and restaurant is excellent. The indoor and outdoor Onsen is huge and usually very quiet and peaceful. The tatami rooms are a decent size too.

We had some confusion trying to book the dinner plans in advance as their website was a bit quirky. Had better luck emailing them instead.

Overall we had a very memorable stay here and was pleasantly surprised when the entire front desk crew came to the entrance to say good bye when our chartered bus came.

FYI, there's a bus stop to Shiga Kogen slopes/hotels within a short walk from Senjukaku.

Lovely ryokan style hotel close to entrance of snow monkey park. I’ve been to many ryokans and this is one of the most comfortable and luxurious ones. Room was spacious with two separate seating areas. One with the traditional ryokan table & chairs which are cleared away at night for futons. The other with two armchairs and a coffee table looking out to a large outdoor balcony facing nice greenery.
Spacious separate toilet and bathroom inside the room (much larger than most typical ryokans).
Both the indoor and outdoor public onsens are rarely crowded. There are 2 private onsens available for booking as well.
Service is excellent.

This is, without a doubt, the best hotel I have ever stayed at. From the moment you walk through the front doors of the beautiful wooden building, you are treated as if you are the emperor himself. I had the pleasure of being greeted by a wonderful man in the reception that spoke great English, this was the same person that served me the 10 course dinner in the evening, and a wonderful Japanese breakfast, with just as many courses in the morning. I attended both meals wearing the supplied traditional japanese dress, a real fun experience! The rooms are really big and beatifully designed, you feel like you enter a different world. My room had a balcony with a great view of the mountains. In the room was a map with the names of the mountaintops I could see from my room. The hotel also has a beautiful onsen that is open 24 hours a day. I can not recommend this hotel enough, I will definitely return here in the future.

We stayed here at the end of our time in Japan as a treat and for the traditional Japanese inn / onsen experience and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The room was huge and the seating area was seamlessly converted for sleeping by the hotel staff while we ate our dinner. The food was traditional Japanese with seemingly endless small plates of delicacies (a similar story at breakfast). The onsen was fabulous - we used it 3 times in the one night we were there and loved it.
All in all a great experience and lovely place to stay.

This was such a great stay, the rooms were big and spacious, the staff were incredibly helpful (my car got stuck in the snow), the dinner was an exceptional Japanese culinary delight. The onsen on site is beautiful in the snow. The location is very close to the snow monkey park, which in it self is a wonderful experience to visit and to see the monkeys in their natural habitat. We were a family of four.

Wonderful traditional inn experience.
We loved every minute here up in the mountains located brilliantly for the Snow Monkey Park. Spacious old worldy and clean this Ryokan did not disappoint. Staff were exceptional and we made use of the free shuttle to collect and deliver from the local train station. Japanese breakfast and dinner were very good.

It is an 1.8km walk slightly uphill through a beautiful forest. They do say that in the winter there is heavy snowfall but the trail is still doable.
