First time in the Brown Trout. Very struck by it being well out in the countryside. It appeared a very old establishment. We had pre booked due to restrictions on numbers because of the virus situation. We were not residents. The place seemed to be busy with lost of staff who were quite young looking. Noticed the open fire in the upstairs dining part. Nice traditional décor. The food was delicious. We had a range of meals including starters and dessert. The only drawback concerned my dessert of ice cream. I was intrigued to see how long it was before the young man realised I had no spoon with which to eat said dessert. I began eating with a chocolate wafer. It proved difficult to get anyone's attention. I eventually finished the dessert without a spoon. A quaint little memory. Much to the amusement of the rest of our party. Otherwise a pleasant evening meal. Would return someday.…
What a brilliant place. We stayed in October 2020. My husband and I had heard about the Brown Trout from a friend and thought we would book in. We looked on the website and saw an offer for midweek 3 night B&B and one evening meal stay. We were taken over to a gorgeous cottage overlooking the golf course. It was lovely I had a couple of issues and this was rectified immediately and was moved over to one of the rooms in the courtyard. Jane and the staff are so friendly. I did get some other staff names but I forgot. For anyone wondering about the Dog policy, you wouldn’t know that there have been any, in both of the properties we stayed in. on a few occasions when people left they took their dogs with them we looked at each other and said I didn’t even know there was a dog with them. The breakfasts are lovely and a good selection, table service only due to Covid-19. We had two evening meals (one part of the deal) the food was amazing, cannot praise it enough. We enjoyed our stay so much we change our normal New Year tradition and are now coming here for another 3 night stay, we are looking forward to it. Again thank you Jane and the rest of the staff for a great stay, cannot wait to visit at the end of the month. …
Called in and found that it was well set up for covid, felt very safe and the service was friendly and welcoming, proper tablecloths used which helps you to feel valued. The food was superb, well presented and served. Cajn't wait to call back when some normality returns
Loved the Brown Trout even with Covet restrictions concerning entertainment and early bar closure but the excellent freshly cooked food and friendly staff made up for the necessary changes. Rooms large and nicely furnished as is the bathroom containing both bath and walk in shower which is suitable for wheelchair access.Tea, coffee and biscuits provided in room, hair dryer,TV on the wall and plenty of fresh towels provided. Both evening meals were of a high standard especially the steaks and you can enjoy your breakfast in front of a open log fire. The usual Ulster Fry is available but try the delicious egg and fresh salmon for a change. The location of the Brown Trout is a bit of the beaten track but there are many well known tourist attractions a short car journey away. Overall an enjoyable two day stay and hope to return soon when things are back to normality.…
Excellent is the only word for the Brown Trout. The accommodation as two double beds in the room that are very spacious. The bathroom is big also that contains a bath and a walk in shower for the disabled. All the staff are friendly the food is good plus when you first go to the restaurant you are served with the same waitress for the length of your stay. Ours was cut short because of Covid-19 because the government brought in New restrictions saying restaurant's and hotels had to close at 6.00pm on the Friday. As we had only stayed one night out of three I was not charged for our accommodation only the evening meal we had. The evening of our meal Jane came around the tables to keep us informed if they were going to have to close The Brown Trout also rents out cottages for self catering. I would recommend the Brown Trout to anyone for an evening meal or a longer stay.…
