The owners are so gracious and welcoming. The room was spacious, quiet, and fit all our needs. The grounds are beautiful as is the chateau. My husband and I wish we had stayed longer. Easy to find, easy parking. It was a delightful experience overall.

We booked this hotel for a two night stay 5-7 June through Expedia. The Chateau looked wonderful in the photos & the reviews were 5 out 5 with an exceptional rating. We were so looking forward to staying there, it was going to be the highlight of our holiday.

This turned out to me the most disappointing day of our holiday. We had informed the hotel approximately what time we would be arriving and actually arrived 10 mins early. It was very difficult to find & if it hadn’t been for me seeing the top of one of the turrets I don’t think we ever would. We drove up & our first impression wasn’t the grander we were expecting having seen the photos on Expedia. All the shutters looked like they were in a complete state of disrepair giving the impression of a haunted house. The side door was all shut up & we couldn’t alert the proprietor our arrival so we sat in the car & beeped the horn (just once) No one came & we sat there for 10 mins. We were looking for the telephone number of either the chateau or Expedia when a woman appeared at the window of the car. She took us inside & it was utter shock to us, the entrance was not as the photo shows on the Expedia website, the piano was indeed there, but not with lamp & furniture around it but instead a pile of junk & inches of dust. The rug wasn’t there, no little chair, it was bare concrete & empty apart from mounted stag heads & I have photos to prove it. She took us to our room which was ok, old but I suppose that is what we expected from a French Chateau. All the doors in the corridor were shut & she explained we were the only people staying there. The bathroom was across the hall which was minimalistic & she explained as the place is so cold we should keep the heater going all night. The light in the corridor was a push button thing which she said only lasted 1 minute. The bed gave the appearance of a lilo & my husband sat on it & said it was awful. We had a look at the lounge where we could watch tv & this too was dirty & messy as was the room we were to eat our breakfast in. We went back to have a look at the bedroom again & the floor boards on the landing creaked, it really was like a haunted house. After me screeching we did laugh. We didn’t feel we could stay there & we had paid over £200 for the two nights on a non refundable booking. We didn’t know what to do.

We went to the car & called Expedia & they were so helpful & gave us an immediate credit of £50. We said we would rather lose the £200 than stay there. They tried to call her but she didn’t answer so my husband went in & very diplomatically said we wouldn’t be staying & we set off to look for another hotel close by. We are experienced travellers & have stayed in hotels in many different countries but this was the worse. What was funny, while we sat in the car in front of what we thought looked like a haunted house it was raining & then we had a crack of lightening. Probably the deciding point to leave, it was something like out of a tv farce, we just had to laugh.

Expedia called us back within 10 minutes & had contacted the proprietor & she had agreed to refund one nights stay. We found a hotel in Foix for that night.

There is a review on TripAdvisor from February & I wish I had read it before we booked because it echoed our opinion exactly. Don’t believe the positive reviews, I cannot believe they are genuine. I really wouldn’t want anyone else to experience what we did. We can’t really afford to waste hard earned money but really we felt there was no option. Now back home I feel so cross with the owner to fabricate photos of the chateau in order to get bookings. I feel she should have done the decent thing & not charged us for any night at all. I don’t want to rate this 1 but 0 but there is no option for doing so. As fransicopt says in their review "Run Away"

The biggest disappointment of the trip. Poor state of conservation, very very dirty, strong musty smell in the room, not enough heating, making the guest freeze, lousy reception, unsafe and inhospitable. Do not get caught in this trap!
