This place has its charm in its 70’s design, and is partly renovated with modern attributes. All the rooms are equipped with AC’s, the staff is phenomenal (a bit more Western in regards of hospitality, talkativeness, and all around helpfulness.)
It’s just enough and it provides you with what you need, and for the price you really can’t complain!
In regards for the food I have nothing to complain about. Not a Michelin star restaurant, but great locally grown vegetables and with a wide variety of different cuisines.

Where to begin… this is a 2 star hotel, except 2 stars! Pushing 2, more like 1 star.
You pay for what you get here. For £100 a night for 2 people with a sea view room you get breakfast lunch and dinner. At dinner time you also get unlimited beer and wine. The food was horrendous, we only ate chips and pizza. Please don’t eat anything else… you’ll regret it !
Breakfast was also horrendous. I wouldn’t even trust the fruit. Don’t go near the yogurt, if you can call it that. Stick to the croissants and you’ll be ok.
I am not the fussiest of people, luckily as a lot of people look at their rooms and refuse to stay. The rooms are BASIC and old. Peeling wallpaper, mouldy curtains, body fat on the shower walls and shower curtains (the orange marks for those who are unfamiliar). No hair dryers or iron, no fridge. Literally your bed, tv and air con. Much to my surprise worked a delight.
The reception laughed when we double checked we had the sea view room, she told us not to expect much. I’m so glad she did lol. If you do stay here pay the extra £30 for the sea view to make it more bearable.
If you are on a cheap budget and looking for nice views and a close walk into the beautiful town of Stari Grad port this is the place. Lovely watching the sun set from the hotel. That’s about all.
There was some funky looking stains around the room which made me feel a bit uneasy but as we had only 2 nights here I brushed it aside.
The rooms are not very private, you can hear everything. We also had our neighbour looking into our room when my partner and I was shaving some private time.
We read someone else’s review who said “it was so bad it was funny” couldn’t agree more!
Drink lots and you’ll enjoy your stay :)

We have great time in hotel Arkada. Overall was good price performance. There are peacocks in hotel atrium, nice playroom for children, billiard, table tennis and football in reception, swimming pool and pool bar were fine. Also there were some animation program for kids. Food was ok. Pancakes were great :) seafood wasn’t tasty, risottos were over cooked and sometimes we need to wait to get salad bar refilled other was ok. Breakfast was fine. Dining room and terrace were spacious. Lunch time should be extended for at least half an hour and dinner should start at least half an hour earlier. Room had good air conditioning, large balcony, good curtains to make dark for afternoon sleep, beds were comfortable. Bathroom was clean but needs renovation, there were problems with warm water and pipes. Work was working in reception. There is also taxi boat which offers quick and cheap transfer from hotel to stari grad and backwards.
With some minimal improvements especially in bathroom it would be perfect for that price.

Really good value for the money (end of june) . Friendly, professional staff. Really decent food. But pls management: if you happen to use local products (the tomatoes or the fantastic brodet with škarpina and oslić) write it down! The best with this place though is its architecture: not the top notch yugoslav modernism but good, well planned 70's architecture. I rather have a worn down (it is worn down) super spacious family room with 8meter long balcony and bidet than some newly renovated room with filament lamps and hamburger creations in the restaurant. The minor drawbacks: just one waterstation in the big buffet and i would prefer to be able to order drinks at the table. Also I'm disappointed that they don't use sun energy for heating the water. But the structure itself and the nice play room for children etc cater for a good family holiday.

Like many others, I stupidly booked this hotel thinking it had been renovated during lockdown but trust me, it wasn’t! The hotel group Valamar have clearly just done the very basics to take some decent photos for their website, the reality is very very different. The reception had some very minor modernisation but the bedrooms were untouched from at the the 70s. Very old beds and mattresses, wallpaper, furniture, bathroom. Don’t think it’s like an 80s style holiday resort in Spain because that would be luxery in comparison.
It was so bad that my boyfriend and I checked in after travelling for half the day, saw the room and general state of the place and immediately asked for a refund, despite having found no alternative place to stay. The receptionist was very apologetic and said many people felt the same way and had also asked for refunds. It’s hard to describe how bad it is. I don’t often leave reviews but I would feel really bad if I didn’t try to stop anyone else from ending up here. It’s GRIM and I’m actually shocked that it gets away with staying open. Please do yourself a favour and don’t book this hotel. I don’t even want to think about how bad the food must be.

I was staying in this hotel from 4th of August until 11th of August. It was honestly a very pleasant surprise, since the prices or pretty low considering that Hvar is one of the expensive places in Croatia. The room was big enough, the beds were comfortable, the toilet was clean, it is older, but clean. You get clean towels daily, and you can always ask for more, the people are happy to help you out. The food was good, I enjoyed the croissants, and the fish, there is a variety of food and drinks for everyone. Also, the white wine is awesome :D The pool is clean, filled with sea water, and the beaches are all near, you can pick where ever you want to put your towel and relax under the trees. :) You can't expect luxury for this price, but it is decent and you can save money, and maybe spend it some other activities there :) Stari Grad is around 15 minutes walking distance, and you can take a bus in Stari Grad to go to Hvar. :) I would definitely come back :)

The employees are very friendly, for a 2 star hotel it is very well put together, the landscape is nice, the rooms are good. We had a problem with our balcony door, when we went to the receptionist they solved the problem in 5 minutes. The food could be better, but then again we all have different tastes in food. Also the fact that you don’t have a meal between 13.00 and 19.00 isn’t really convenient. The beach is very close. Also the store is a 20 min walk from the hotel, but overall a very good experience. Also, they have peacocks in the yard between the rooms!!😄

Spent four nights in hotel,although hotel needs refurbishment,it was great pleasure for my family an me. Variety and quality of food exceeds all my expectations,all personnel were kind and helpful. Building is pretty old, but we had new television,air condition and wardrobe. Large swimming poll was clean and great for kids,beach is few meters from the hotel what I can see as a great thing when you travel with kids. Parking was always available around the hotel.Hotel surroundings is beautiful, promenade to the Stari grad also. We plan to visit hotel next year it is great value for money if you have on mind that it's two star hotel.

We spent a wonderful vacation of eight days in Stari Grad on Hvar. We stayed at the Arkad Sunny Hotel by Valamar. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist, Karla, who handled the check-in formalities very professionally. The room had a wonderful view of the sea. Neat and clean with air conditioning. The only complaint is the uncomfortable mattress in the bed, which needs to be replaced. The hotel is located in an incredibly beautiful location. The beach surrounded by a beautiful pine forest is only 50 meters from the hotel. Of course, the hotel also has an excellent swimming pool. The restaurant is a separate story. The food is very tasty, the wine and beer are excellent, the coffee is perfect... and all this is served by an almost imperceptible staff. In short, we spent the most pleasant annual vacation and we are sure to return next year.

no the ferry arrival point is on the opposite side of the bay, technically you could walk the whole way but it would be well over an hour. The local bus waits for the ferry and will take you to Starigrad town, make sure you get the right bus!! or you can get a taxi that will take you too the hotel. Please note the Arkada is not in the best of condition please read reviews, its location though is outstanding and Starigrad is a wonderful place for a holiday
