A Lake District B&B, originally built in the 17th century, The House combines old world history with modern day luxury and tech. Sensitively restored, the individually styled bedrooms and elegant reception rooms create a cosy and tranquil welcome. Set in a walled garden in the Eden Valley village of Temple Sowerby, The House offers an opportunity to relax and indulge. The village of Temple Sowerby is situated between the market towns of Penrith and Appleby in Westmorland with the mighty Cross Fell Mountain as a spectacular backdrop. . Please note: As of November 2020 we have closed our evening restaurant however there are local restaurants and places to eat nearby.

Booked in for an evening meal on way to Scotland. Staying for night locally . We had the special chorizo and black pudding salad and black pudding with pear for starter either house burger and special pork with mustard mash for main . I can’t praise enough we had the Shiraz house wine and the meal was the loveliest I have had in a very long time . The service was excellent and a warm and friendly place to eat . Highly recommended . Cost with aperitifs and wine £82 with one dessert good value and I’d have paid 120.

This was our second time staying at The House at Temple Sowerby and again they did not disappoint! It is such a beautiful and inviting building which is only made more welcoming by its staff. The rooms are large in size with very comfortable beds. We only had a quick stay so we didn't have enough time to have a proper look around but the large garden at the back looks stunning and there are spaces to keep and repair bikes (if you are looking for a bike-friendly hotel). The hotel is more than dog-friendly they are dog-welcoming with a doggy-bag being given out on arrival. The cooked breakfast is DELICIOUS! So don't even think about leaving early and missing it. I can't even decide what was the best thing about it as every inch of the plate was fantastic.

Thank you so very much for leaving this wonderful review. We are very aware that for many travelling at the moment, it will be the first time being away from home in a long while. Even more important for us to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. And we do agree, that our breakfasts are amazing! Hope to see you again soon. Alison

Fantastic room, large bathroom, comfy bed! Breakfast was homemade and they catered for vegans well. The homemade smoky beans were delicious! Friendly, polite customer service. Overall a lovely experience!

A wonderful place to stay. Beautiful historic house and garden and village location with easy nearby walks and sights. The owners, Alison and Andy, are very friendly, and accommodating of their guest's needs. The food is delicious and home made and the rooms are comfortable and clean. A perfect setting for a yoga retreat and relaxation in general. I will definitely be returning for another stay!

Comfortable Room, excellent homemade style breakfast. Friendly, welcoming staff, quirky building, decent room with ‘spa’ bath. Homemade shortbread on arrival (wrapped). Only small issues were mattress was very unsupportive and perhaps needed replacing and dirty phone in the room, otherwise would recommend and definitely stay again.
