Rarely are expectations so surpassed. Le Jardin d'Homps - a beautiful converted wine merchant's mansion - is perfectly situated to explore the beautiful MInervois wine region and acts as a delightful stop-over for any small groups cycling or boating down the Canal du Midi. Hosts Thomas and Gerda Wijnands genuinely go the extra mile with a sunny terrace drink on arrival, a delicious breakfast, large airy rooms, lots of local knowledge and great ideas for dining in lovely Homps or nearby Argens-Minervois, both on the canal. Piece de resistance is the stunning garden, with a decent size pool, just perfect for relaxing tired legs after a long cycle. I have rarely felt as chilled out after a stay as last Saturday at Le Jardin d' Homps.
Very peaceful stay, very nice people. Very tasty breakfast. I even took a swim in the pool, perfect temperature, also a great location. Warm weather, beautiful garden and many activities around the B & B! Overall lovely place, I totally recommend it!
We were so grateful to the kind owners, Gerda and Thomas, for their welcome to this wonderful place. We had the family room on the top floor which we think was one of the best we have ever seen. The door to the room opens on to a corridor where there are two separate rooms, each en suite. The children’s room was lovely and homely. The main bedroom is large and beautifully decorated with lovely furniture and nice tea and coffee facilities. We had lovely floor to ceiling french windows looking on to the pool area. The beds are all comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and the children are still talking about the pastries, scrambled eggs and hot chocolates. The place is perfect for anyone holidaying with small children because there is a lovely pool, loungers, two hammocks, sitting room with tv and a little box of toys to play with in the sitting room. What makes it wonderful, however, is that the owners are genuinely welcoming to families and it is child friendly in an understated and non-intrusive way. The children loved the bbq and other dinner event during our stay (sitting up late round the table with the grown ups!) and the watermelon slices and water kindly provided a few times on the house at the pool. We very much enjoyed chatting with the owners and the other guests. The location is also wonderful for families with a wide variety of good restaurants in the village (we especially liked En Bonne Compagnie) and close to beautiful sandy beaches, perfect for small children. The olive co operative is fun for children and there are castles not far away and you can’t miss Carcasonne, around 45 minutes away.…
Hospitable and friendly in a beautiful early 20th century house. Stylish in every sense without pomposity. The best hotel we stayed in over the three days. Informal yet chic at the same time. Hard to do but Thomas did it effortlessly.
Thomas and Gerda are the most accommodating hosts I think we have ever come across. The reception we experienced on arrival was special, glass of local wine, cold fresh flannels after a long day cycling and only too pleased to arrange a booking for our evening meal. The room and garden is exceptional as is breakfast. Their willingness to make our stay special went far beyond anything we could have or have experienced in a B&B. Anybody lucky enough to stay at the Jardin d’Homps will not be disappointed.
