On a family vacation, we visited RN7 through to Tulear, Anakao, Mikea Lodge and finished our tour at Isalo Rock Lodge. We went to a few good hotels but Isalo Rock Lodge easily tops them all.
We spent a couple of days there. The team...More

Although not quite in the desert, Isalo Rock Lodge is a beautiful hotel nestled in the most amazing landscape. The low set architecture is reminiscent of 1960s American bungalows with desert climate gardens. The rooms have huge windows and decks with fantastic views; even the...More

Isalo Rock Lodge is near Isalo National Park along Route 7 between Fianarantsoa to Tulear. There is an active public airport in Tulear and the Isalo Rock Lodge is a three hour drive along a straight paved road east of Tulear. There used to be an active public airport in Fianarantsoa (east of Rock Lodge), but currently Fianarantsoa airport is only serviced by private planes. The drive from Fianarantsoa to Isalo is about 5 hours. The drive along Route 7 from Antananarivo to Isalo Rock Lodge is about 12 hours. Maybe more. Overnight in Fianarantsoa or Ambositra is suggested.
