Actually attended this hotel in July 2019! Unfortunately, we had to stay here as we were attending a funeral! It's like stepping into a time warp. The hotel is so dated and old fashioned! The room was adequately clean and the breakfast was basic but good! The location of this hotel was good though!

When I first walked into Hotel Villa Ghirlanda I was greeted at the check-in desk by a grumpy manager who was extremely unwelcoming. This attitude continued for the entire duration of my 3 night stay. He never smiled once. He always seemed annoyed and never went out of his way to convenience the customers or make them feel comfortable and welcomed. There is also a woman employee who yelled at us multiple times in Italian over the smallest things, and we didn't even understand what we were doing wrong. We had bought a bottle of champagne to kick off our trip, realized we didn't have any glasses in the room, and saw stacks of glasses in the breakfast area that leads up to the rooms. Before we even touched a glass the woman came out of the kitchen and screamed at us in Italian, as if she were scolding young children. Any normal hotel wouldn't mind if its guests took glasses to their room and if it was a problem they would kindly redirect you to some cups that you could take. Interactions like this continued for the entire stay. I would never recommend this place, worst travel experience so far. It ruined part of a very special trip. My friends and I were genuinely frightened by the staff here. Also the wifi does not work, you have to log back in every time you lock your phone, and every day you must ask the front desk for a new password. And beds were extremely uncomfortable. Breakfast was good. Thats about the only good thing.

A couple friends and I were looking for somewhere near Milan, and this was the most inconvenient place to stay. It is around 25-30 minutes from the city center of Milan, and taxis will often refuse to take you there at odd hours. Other than a few exceptions (the maids and one of the day managers), the hotel staff were not hospitable or welcoming. When we returned to the hotel one night looking for food options, the manager told us there were no options, nowhere to go nearby, and did not offer any other solution to eat, though we were very hungry. The same manager yelled at us as we returned home because we tried to take some of the free breakfast snacks that were sitting out, making my friends and I quite frightened. The few staff that were nice were very welcoming and happy, but that is nearly the only advantage of this hotel.

The hotel is 1950s revamped to 1970s decor, but none the worse for it. Tidy and clean with a 'cool' bar area. It's close to the Piazza Antonio Gramsci which has more cafes, bars and ice cream parlours per meter than any other place I've ever been in Italy. The hotel wifi is terrific - even on the third floor. Speaking of the third floor - or presumably all the other floors - you do not want to be in room 344 if you want a quiet night. This is the room right next to the elevator. It's quite noisy. If you get handed the key for 344 (or 244 or 144?) ask for another one. Otherwise, perfectly fine with helpful reception staff.

Stayed here when visiting my sister in Cinisello Balsamo. Very helpful staff, good buffet breakfast, clean rooms, very quiet (apart from church bells Sunday morning!!!). Great location for traveling into Milan as trams stop right outside the hotel, main square in Cinisello Balsamo just across the road. Very good steak house below hotel. Would and will go back again.
