Detailed Reviews
BlueJay hostel is no short of a travellers paradise. Whether you are going solo, with your significant other or with a group of friends, this is the place to be. Located in Tapovan, Rishikesh, this place has amenities to cater to your individual needs.
From bunk bedded shared rooms to private 2 person rooms, a common room for chilling out and a rooftop cafe with Amazing view of the valley, truly it's all in one.
The rooms have attached bathrooms which are no less than the bathrooms of a lavish hotel, with all the necessities you can think of. Also, the walls of the property are adorned with some beautiful pieces of art, which you can't miss and which makes out for a great photographic background 😉.
The common room is equipped with a Television, books, various board games and musical instruments. Take your pick to chill and relax. Oh, did I mention this place has wifi too? Yeah. And a Foosball table for the little men to kick around. Or if you are a book lover, you can just curl up in a corner on the couch or a beanbag and enjoy your pick from the rich selection of Fiction/Non-fiction volumes they have.
The Staff and the managers are helpful and polite to the extent that you feel at home.
They also have arrangements for various outdoor activities and can help you with the adventure sports, rental vehicles and all.
The rooftop Restaurant comes with a view with an in and out sitting arrangement and a menu to tickle thy tastebuds.
If you are headed to Rishikesh, want to make memories and have an experience to remember, Blue Jay is the place to be.

From the moment my partner and I walked in, the staff (especially Rishikesh and Anil) were so welcoming, down to earth and easy to have a laugh with! They made our stay very fun! we wish we got to say goodbye and thanks!! But we left early so we missed out :(
The room was very clean! we stayed in room 10. We had requested a shared bed being a couple but it seems that we were in a twin room and the beds were pushed together so it was a little uncomfortable if we ended up sleeping too close to eachother. There were about 5 clothes hangers in the wardrobe which was good to hang my clothes.
There was no hair dryer or iron in the room.
A heater was provided in the room which we used when it was cold one night and worked very well!
One problem was the bathroom shower head, it was very weak water coming out, so I took twice as long to shower.
The hotel is new with a very funky chill out room and a great place to chill on the rooftop!!
We loved staying here and would definitely come back again if you are searching for something modern and fresh!
The paintings in the hostel are stunning!!!
Thanks for hosting us! Love from Melbounre, Australia

Never have stayed in a hostel before! This was my first time and i was quite intrigued as to how the experience would be.
Stayed at Blue Jay between 11th and 16th of Dec and i must say that i absolutely loved it - comfortable and delightful. The hostel was in touch even before i arrived via mails asking for any special requirements that needs to be addressed by them.
The staff are kindred spirits always with a cheerful smile and willing to guide you around the city. Anything you need is just a few blocks away. The hostel is super clean and ultra modern with interesting set of travellers from India an Abroad. I got an opportunity to stay both in the Dorm (women) as well as in a Private room. Both were very comfortable. The private room had a sit out balcony with beautiful views of the valley. Both the dorm as well as the private rooms have A/Cs.
The food at the cafe is delicious and the chefs are always wiling to go to that extra mile of making what customers want. Do specifically ask for the parathas with the Amla sabji.
The evening meet ups - events which happen almost everyday are something which should not be missed, from solo singers to movie nights, the staff make sure the cold nights are never wasted in the room. I highly recommend you sign up for the trips that the hostel offers. The Visit to the Himalayan Tribe with the staff- Pranav and Rahul was the highlight of my stay. If you are someone keen on exploring the culture, interested in meeting locals and a day away from the town to visit numerous small villages in the mountains, then i highly recommend to jump in to this one.
The hostel is surrounded by beautiful views of the mountains.
The hostel is located mins away from stores, other cafes and restaurants and transportation. The hostel also arranges transport on request.
Back to my city with wonderful memories and cant wait to visit Rishikesh and stay in this lovely hostel again. Adieu Blue Jay till then!

If you come to Rishikesh you have to stay at Blue Jay because of the following reasons,
1. Cleanliness : I would rate this 11/10. The hostel is cleaned twice a day the rooms and bathroom once a day. Most hostels say they disinfect due to COVID-19 but this is the first hostel where I have actually seen it happen with my own eyes. A a person who has OCD blue jay went above the standards i have come to expect from an Indian hostel. They meet European standards of cleanliness.
2. Ambience : I would rate this 9/10 due to the open space, open rooms, spacious bathroom and huge common room (which is incredibly comfortable)
3. Food : Well this is where they can improve so i would give it 6/10 as they could get better with the menu. Point to note that whatever was made here was tasty but its limited
4. Service: I would rate this 10/10 as everyone who works at blue jay goes above and beyond for you. Right from Anil, Priyanshu, Manish and Ayush, who manage the place to the owners Anu and Nitin. They arranged activities for me, greeted me every morning with a smile and just made my 3 weeks here the most memorable. However if i have to point out one thing, it would be efficiency. If they fix this bit they can be 11/10!
5. Wifi: This definitely needs to improve if they want to attract a work from home crowd and make this a co-working space. I would rate this 5/10.

Response from Blue Jay Hostels, Owner at Blue Jay Hostel Rishikesh
Responded 4 Mar 2021
Hi, Trisha. We are glad you liked your stay and thank you for acknowledging our team's hard work they really give it their all to make sure everyone who stays with us has a comfortable stay. We understand your dissatisfaction with food and wifi. You had to face the wifi issue because we are upgrading the entire system and its a bit harder than it looks in a hill station so it took a while and you had to face that issue for which we apologize. And we are trying to improve our menu. So, the next time you stay with us you will get an upgraded menu and better wifi. We look forward to hosting you again. Cheers!

Location is great if you're looking for good eateries around and prefer walking to Laxman jhula. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Helpful staff and go out of their way to make your stay special. They even arranged a cake with their entire team to celebrate my husband's birthday which was a very thoughtful gesture on their part. Great common area and well thought through facilities. Very prompt in responding to communication over email.

I stayed here as a solo traveller in mid April for 3 nights. When arriving, no information is given to help you get oriented with the place or it's surroundings such as maps or guidance or any verbal info on the activities on offer. They do have a painted map on the side of near the stairs but it is not pointed out.
I booked a double room rather than a dorm which was clean and ample. There isn't much space in the bathroom to put toiletries, especially near the sink, but the bed was really comfortable. The plug points near the beds were temperamental and often wouldn't work. I did mention this but nothing was done about it.
The lounge/common room was a nice place to chill out and meet others. I went there a few times in the evenings to relax after sightseeing.
I stayed there 3 nights however my room wasn't cleaned once despite asking the staff.
The front of house staff need to be adequately trained on the surrounding areas. I asked them for guidance on a few things, such as getting to Laxman Jhula, where to buy certain things from but the information somewhat lacked in accuracy. One of the evening staff was particularly rude when I spoke to him in Hindi, that he started laughing at me because he didn't think I would know/understand it.
The location is really good, if you take the shortcut (which I realised after doing the long walk to LJ) it takes around 7-10 mins to get to Laxman Jhula. There are a number of restaurants close by and tour operators.
Overall I think you could probably get better value for your money in places that have a few more activities on for guests.

I stayed in standard double bed room for 2 days. I booked the room when I reached there at around 1 pm. The price was 1680 (inclusive of taxes). The same room was for 2240 if booked in advance. So when I asked to book for 2 days, they were demanding more money for the next day (2240 instead of 1680). I took the gamble of booking the same room next day in the morning at around 9 am for which they still were asking 2240 but thanks a lot to Nikhil (He does the night duty) at the reception who requested the higher authorities and got me the room for the same price (1680). Had a good chat with him too. All the best to you Nikhil if you are reading this.
The room was properly cleaned (bed sheets, pillow covers and washroom). The cafe's food was good too. USP was the roof they have at the top but Ganga or Laxman Jhula are not visible.
Parking is at your own risk. Their is ample parking space outside their property and I think its pretty safe. Getting your vehicle downhill from the main road can be tricky. So do consider your driving skills while getting your vehicle down.
Laxman jhula is 12 minutes walk away. I had my bike so I cannot comment much about connectivity but their are a lot of shared auto rickshaws running just 1 minute walk away from the hostel.
Jumpin Heights booking office is 2 minutes walk away. Ram Jhula is 1.2 kms away.

I along with 4 friends booked a Dorm in BlueJay and we had such an amazing stay.
The infrastructure that the hostel provides for the price, is unbelievable. Even the dormitories are beautifully designed with huge windows, well constructed bunk beds, super comfortable bedding and really spacious and luxurious wash rooms.
The staff and management are really friendly, helpful and accommodating. They will bond with you and chill with you too, some of the nicest people i have met - Anil Bhai, Priyanshu and Sai!
Apart from all the fun we had at the hostel, we also found it to be a really good place to work from distance. The common areas are clean, comfortable and focus inducing. The wifi are also high speed and wont be a blocker at all.
I'd highly recommend the hostel for any one traveling to Rishikesh, for what ever reason it is, working from home, working on ones self, or just a leisure break.
My only advice being - Open up to people. If you find it difficult, start with Anil, Sai and Priyanshu :). They will get you involved and you'll have a really good time.

Well equipped rooms and curtains around the beds. Common areas are clean and modern. Washrooms are good with hot water, although the floors get messy with many people sharing. Good location - quiet but right next to everything in Tapovan. Great place to stay and meet likeminded travellers.
