We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and found it to be very comfortable. The rooms were a good size, especially considering this is Japan (where rooms are typically very small), the beds comfortable and it was great to have a kitchenette and laundry in the apt. Also, location is great - very close to the main drag, to the food trucks and to the free shuttle to get us to/from the main Hirafu lift/gondola. Staff all very friendly and helpful too!

However, note that there was just 2 of us. If you were more people, or with kids, then the living room was a little small.

The Akazora was a great choice for our recent snow trip. Centrally located in Hirafu, right next to the Village Bus Stop (to get you up to the slopes) and walking distance to shopping and restaurants. The studio was quite large overall (much larger than what I had expected), with a good kitchenette and nice bathroom (you can tell it is relatively new compared to other properties in Niseko). The ski lockers are down in the basement and have enough room to comfortably store gear for 2 people. The ground floor studios can be noisy when people are coming home after a big night but it wasn't too noisy overall during our stay. I would be happy to stay here again.

Spacious and clean. Very convenient location in Grand Hirafu - walk to shops and restaurants. Great for family. Fair price comparing to other accommodations in this area. Me and kids enjoyed the staying here.

Welcomed and taken to our room with personalised shuttle by an australian born concierge who was pleasant and extremely helpful.

Amazed by the quality of the room, with nearly every amenity that you could consider. laundry and simple kitchen is in room and there is extensive ski lockers downstairs.

Was shocked after the first night when snow clearing machines started shaking the room at around 4am in the morning. As nice as this place was the ground floor room was just not useable. It was impossible to sleep due to noise. I felt that it was so bad that it should have been advertised in the preinformation or at least the rooms most effected provided at an extremely reduced rate.

Warning bells started ringing when concierge could not answer basic questions about the surrounding village. Seemed like they had the basic knowledge of town that any tourist might be able to tell you.

Nail in the coffin was when I checked the bus that they had arranged to get us back to the airport (which I had prepaid them for). The bus was scheduled to arrive at airport less than 2 hours before the flight departure. Given the blizzards that this area was experiencing and the extreme flight/bus delays I did not think this was adequate time. The concierge was very unhelpful. She insisted it was enough time, even though i showed her that jetstar recommends two hours. Then when I pushed them to change she said that I would need to pay a 100% cancel fee even though the bus website says 40% cancel fee. Whilst i was trying to figure out changing it myself, I noticed that we had been made to pay around 1000yen extra for every ticket (both arrival and return bus) than what it would have cost for me to do it myself via the english website. She was very happy to just sit there and let me seeth in anger requesting that I pay the 40$ bus tickets all over again even though it was their mistake for not leaving enough time. Even when I said i would be happy to pay the 40% that the website says normal customers pay for modifications she said that because of their "agreement" that I would need to pay the full 100% fee again. WHAT A JOKE!

Just not the professional service that one would expect from accommodation which is in this price range. A good concierge is all you need in japan due to the language and cultural barrier. This is especially true when you are isolated in niseko.

Hi Michael V, Thank you for your review on the quality of the apartment itself. Unfortunately, snow clearing is part of the daily safety of a ski town like Niseko. With the development that is happening around Niseko, Hirafu has quite tight roads that need to be regularly snow cleared to ensure safety for traffic and pedestrians. Unfortunately, the snowclearing cannot take place during the normal working hours as this will cause jams and potential deadly accidents to daily movements. Although the clearing noise is not ideal, it is a necessity to this small ski town. I sincerely apologize if you feel that the service of the Akazora team was not professional. We will ensure your experience is not replicated. The connection time for flights is actually recommended by the operator of the coach; As such, if they do not agree with a shift in timing, they put in place the cancellation charge. Nevertheless, our team should have, and will endeavour to do so in future, to help our guests to the best of our abilities. Thank you again for your feedback, and I hope you still enjoyed your holiday in Niseko! Warm regards, Clara

I can't say enough about how Awesome The AKOZORA is. From the Apartment itself to the entire Staff and everything in between. The fact that we keep returning in itself speaks volumes.
The apartments are clean, modern, spacious, and very well appointed, even the Studio apartments are self contained including a kitchenette and washing machine.
It is centrally located to just about everything and even then, nothing is too much of a pleasant walk to including the Ace Family Pair chair lift.
The shuttle bus stops right outside the front which is another plus.
All the staff from Management (the lovely, bubbly Mariko), Front Desk, Cleaners to name a few are all so friendly, polite and accommodating with nothing being too much trouble for them.
We felt quite spoilt upon our return this year as Mariko had arranged a very nice bottle of red wine, an endearing little note and extra hangers all to welcome us back to The AKOZORA - such a very special little touch that again keeps us coming back.
They are without a doubt the BEST Value for money Accommodation complex that I have found on the mountain thus far - I just hope we can continue to secure an apartment every year for as long as we keep coming to this magical snow covered wonderland now that word has spread.
Even our friends and work colleagues are booking it.
Their is however only one con depending upon what you refer to as comfort and that is the beds are extremely hard however it pails in comparison to everything else it has going for it.
Dare I say.....I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do.

The room was spacious and clean. They advertise a washer and dryer but unfortunately the dryer does not work. All english TV channels were in Japanese. They work with the transportation company to book transportation from the airport to the facility. They advertised receiving a discount if booked through them, but is really the same price as if you were to walk upto the counter at the airport and pay for the transportation bus. What's bad is once you make the reservation, no cancellation. We had to change the time when we needed the transportation (because our plane arrived late due to weather) and we were charged 40% and 100% for the change.
The room we had was near the smoking area. All the smoke came into our room even with the windows closed. They had an emergency contact, but the phone just rings and rings. No one responds to messages left. The reception closes at 9pm. There was no house keeping for the 4 days we were there. The cancellation policies was horrible. We weren't able to catch a flight out but couldn't cancel or move our reservation. Either we used it or lose it. 4 days for over 1k isn't cheap, especially without housekeeping or anything other than renting their place for 4 days. We definitely won't stay at this facility again. Take our money once, but never again!

Hi Sweetchills1, I am sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant stay. We will certainly ensure that the emergency phone is answered in future, and have taken on board the feedback regarding the smoking location. For guest services, these charges are put in place by the operator. While we appreciate and understand that weather conditions do change, we try to accommodate any changes, as much as possible, to ensure our guests are safe and/or are able to make their flight. Unfortunately, as per our cancellation policy, MnK cannot be held responsible for weather conditions. Again, I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us and we thank you for your understanding regarding the various cancellation policies. Should you choose to stay with us again, we will definitely provide you with a repeater discount. Thank you again for your review and feedback. Warm regards, Clara

I, along with a friend, stayed in a 1bdr apartment in Akazora for 32 nights from the end of Jan all the way through Feb.

--------------------------------------

Service
The service at Akazora was exceptional.
When booking we hadn't known there were going to be concierges or a room cleaning service or anything of the sort at Akazora. Upon arrival, however, we discovered that there was a concierge desk with someone there 12 hours a day (and able to be contacted in case of emergencies other times), and also that our room was to be cleaned every 5 or so days.
We were also picked up and dropped off at our bus at both ends of the trip which was fantastic.

As for the people; I cannot speak more highly of them.
Jordan, Marico, Ben and Kana were fantastic the entire time we were there. Not only were they perfect concierges (booking restaurants and giving directions), but they went above and beyond that by offering things which could never be expected of them (such as Ben driving us up to .Base and then across to the Welcome Centre within 15 minutes of our arrival so that we could buy our Season Passes and do a few hours of night skiing before the mountain closed.).
More than this though, they were just great friendly people who were there to have a good time and make sure that everyone else was doing so as well. Since we were there for over a month we became friends with them. We skied with them on days off, hung out, and even got taught how to make Okonomiyaki one evening after work.
The absolute perfect staff!

-

Value
I have a feeling that this may conflict with a lot of reviews, but Akazora was the cheapest quote we could find anywhere in Hirafu, including in Backpackers Lodges.
We began organising accommodation roughly 6 months before arrival day of this trip and wanted a self contained apartment for a month. We sent over 100 emails to different places and got almost as many return quotes. All of the ones for apartments were 5 or 6 times the price we could afford to pay and so we had all but decided we were going to have to stay in a Backpackers lodge. But then we got the quote for Akazora and it was roughly equal to the cheapest Backpackers (but it is private, newer, nicer, closer, cleaned, has concierges and every other benefit of a self contained private apartment over a shared dorm.)
This may be because when we paid the place had not even begun construction, it may have been because we booked out a whole month, or maybe because we booked so early; but whatever it was, nothing else could even come close.
If the same price is available next year; I will be back. I am concerned this will probably not be the case though.

-

Sleep Quality
Perfectly fine.
The only reason I gave it four stars is because it was a single bed.
But I knew this before arrival so it was not an issue, I just like big beds.

-

Cleanliness
Exceptional.
As I mentioned above, we did not know that there was a cleaning service, but it was excellent.

-

Location
Terrific.
Only a 5 minute (max.) walk in full ski gear to the Family Chair.
Apparently there was a bus stop nearby too, but it is definitely not necessary. It was a very easy walk (slight uphill in the street Akazora is on, but after that it's flat/downhill) straight to the chair.

It's also really close to a bunch of bars (Tamaashi, Half Note, Barefoot, and at least 5 others within 3 minutes) and restaurants as well as a really nice Onsen in the Lower Village.

It is not super close to the Upper Village (due to it being an uphill walk), but we didn't want of anything up there. Unless you are absolutely set on taking the Gondola or the Ace Quad chair as your first chair up then it's no issue. We found it was just as good (if not better) to get on the Family Chair (which opens before anything else) at 8:15 every morning and have it carry us to the Ace Quad instead.

-

Rooms
The place is completely new and the rooms are great.
Nothing more to say really.

--------------------------------------

An amazing place!
Can't recommend it highly enough (especially if you pay what we did...)

Akazora have always been my first choice when we visit Niseko. The great location make a big difference. My last stay in Feb/Mar 2018 was my 4th visit, I noticed that there are sign of aging to the apartment, and for the price that we are paying it is necessary for MnK team to step up on the maintenance of the apartment (upgrading of the apartment). In general, I have no complains for my 4th visit, but I also realized the lack of knowledge of the area for the current Concierge Team. It is definitely not the same team as before that know the area really well. It doesnt matter to us, as we visit Niseko yearly. I looked forward to be back at Akazora next season.

I've stayed at Akazora a couple of times now. The building is very well located on one of the most popular streets in Hirafu, just below the main road. It's a stone's throw from many of the great restaurants and opposite The Barn. There's also a bus stop for the ski bus right outside, or it's an easy 10 min walk to the lifts.

The apartments are a really good size with ample living space for the number of beds and a quality specification.

We stayed in a Yotei view apartment and I would recommend it - you will be further away from potential street noise, plus have a great view if the weather is clear.

Hi, we have stayed at the AKAZORA for the past 6 years and are heading back again in 2020. The sofa beds they had in the apartments prior to this year (we have stayed in several of the apartments over that time incl a Studio, 1 Brm & 2 brm) were a cream color, relatively firm yet comfortable and spacious with a chase section, sadly, this year they were changed to very small, narrow, low dark brown sofas (no chase) and are not the most uncomfortable sofa by far. I did try to see if they converted to a sofa bed however I couldn't see how to convert it, if at all? Aside from the sofa the apartment and staff over the years have been wonderful which is why we keep returning. There is heating in the hall and heating in the apartments is more than adequate.

Thank you everyone for your prompt replies! Hi AussiegirlDP79, Each apartment at Akazora is furnished with a washer. The washer has a drying function, however, its drying cycle is 4-5hours long. Generally at the end of the cycle, the clothes are still damp as it uses cold air to cool. As our guests have mentioned, we do provide a clothes rack in every apartment. Your laundry will dry overnight when hung on the rack. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any further questions. Warm regards, Clara Tan Guest Relations Manager
