Even as the snowflakes start to fall, adding powder to the slopes outside, Kimamaya Boutique Hotel remains toasty-warm; a cocoon upon the mountainside. Kimamaya is the Japanese word for ‘be yourself’ and here, you can do just that. Jazz music floats through the homely Living Lounge as your bare feet press against the timber flooring, and all that’s left to worry about is which wine you’ll sip as you laze by the fireplace. The vintages served here come from a vineyard owned by the family of Nicolas Gontard, who renovated this nine-room retreat to help guests get closer to the beauty of Niseko, one of Japan’s most popular ski resorts. But Kimamaya Boutique Hotel’s mountain location isn’t only appealing in winter. In the summer and fall, pristine trails and mountain biking tracks snake through the surrounding pine forests.

I cannot say enough good things about Kimamaya. My wife and I recently visited during our honeymoon trip and we were thrilled with nearly every part of our stay. First, the property itself is incredible - we loved the beautifully designed rooms and great common spaces. On top of that, it's attached to a first-class restaurant with a unique blend of Japanese/European cooking and some interesting cocktails and desserts. But what really sets Kimamaya apart, in my mind, is the incredible service. Peter and Haruka, who run the property, truly go above and beyond for the guests. They made some fantastic restaurant suggestions and were happy to help with just about anything, whether it was booking a ski lesson, a massage or helping to sort with transportation mix ups. We may live

Can not recommend this place enough. It's exactly why there is a 5 star rating. Stayed for a week in December. The hotel is GORGEOUS and so delicately decorated. It felt brand new, though they've been open nearly 10 years. The hotel is a 3 minute walk to the main part of Hirafu. The staff are incredibly helpful...to the point that they picked us up and dropped us everywhere...and they had booked restaurants 6 months in advance so that they had a load of places to offer us when we were there...a LOT of restaurants in Hirafu have a 6 month waiting list. The Hotel is as close to the slopes as you will ever need to be. I loved it so much, felt like i was staying at a family home - the management even organised welcome drinks one night for all the guests. There is a set of "sort

Kimamaya came highly recommended by my friends, who said "you won't regret it, Peter is this... Peter is that..Kimamaya has this...etc". There are so many luxe boutique hotels in Niseko. In this case, it's the people (Peter and Haruka) who elevate the experience and stay up a notch. Great service makes all the difference! Peter and Haruka made our stay fantastic and memorable! We will return to Kimamaya end of 2019 for sure. They are so friendly, chatty and always happy and cheerful (even in the blistering cold). We stayed in the Loft room, 2 adults with 2 kids under 8 years old. From the start, Peter and Haruka sent us speedy email replies with great food suggestions and activities. When we arrived, we were made so welcome in this cosy little house. The decor and color

We were blown away by our stay at Kimamaya. The personal service that Peter, Haruka and the team provided was a game changer and really made our stay special. Restaurant reservations, mountain guides and returning forgotten belongings, nothing was too much trouble! Peter arranged for me to go touring with a fellow guest and some new mountain guides, which was far more fun that going alone! Kimamaya is perfectly located in town, close to the action of restaurants, bars and ski shops. The hotel is set up similar to that of a chalet in Europe, with a cosy living area, honesty bar, breakfast and drop off and collection to and from the Mountain included, it’s the small details that make all the difference. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Niseko if I returned and I look forward to

This is our third visit, but with family. The team and place is still as charming as ever. Even though there are tons of other new places opening up, we still love the place for it caters to just that few couples/family. Our kids absolutely love the play room. We are pretty spoilt by the dry room that keeps our ski gear and clothes clean and dry every day. It is hard to stay elsewhere unless it comes with a perfect dry room, simple yet flavorful breakfast with good coffee, pick up service to ski lifts, loft unit and yes, this place comes with Netflix as well! It’s a hit with the kids and our folks!

We had a fantastic stay at Kimamaya - definitely the best hotel we stayed in in all of Japan! Peter and Haruka were very welcoming, and they dropped us off for our onward transport after our stay (even though the bus stop we needed was not nearby!) We loved the private onsens in the hotel, and the excellent breakfast too (I had poached eggs with smoked salmon, and a great toffee latte). We also appreciated Netflix in the rooms in the evenings (we watched a new series that we are now finishing at home). Very comfortable lounge too. I could not recommend Kimamaya any more highly - if you are considering visiting, definitely do!

We spend 4 nights at Kimamaya and it was just perfect. Peter and all the other people here made our time a dream. Peter give us a lot of tips for restaurants in the area. The room and the hotel (bedrooms in total), in general, were nicely decorated and very calm. We had access to the breakfast at the restaurant next door. Bath time was available after a ski day, very relaxing. They were very helpful to drop us off us and pick us up for our ski days. I would highly recommend this hotel, try the bar not too far with the little red door, a must!

We loved our first stay at Kimamaya this past February 2018 with our two boys, aged 5 and 10. The two story bedroom (with kids beds and little private den upstairs) was great and gave us the space we needed; and the small boutique hotel feel really made Kimamaya a home away from home. The staff was attentive and helpful, suggesting and booking dinners for us, but also super accommodating when we wanted to have a take away pizza 'at home' and suggested we should relax in the bar area ... the lovely bottle of sparkly wine we had with it, made it a wonderful, relaxing evening. We also found the central location of the hotel brilliant. We had previously stayed in ski in/out places in Niseko and were a little reluctant about having to take the Kimamaya shuttle bus to the Hirafu

On first hearing about Niseko, years ago, I knew it was a place I needed to visit, as it combines two things I love: skiing, and Japan. When I was finally ready to book the trip, it was tough to find the right place to stay; I wanted the convenience of staying in town, so I could walk to restaurants and bars, but I didnt want to be too far from the mountain. Luckily, I stumbled onto Kimamaya. The website and marketing materials cannot do it justice; the location is very central, and the public areas and rooms feel cozy and comfortable. There are also two private onsens, that are restorative after a day on the slopes. But, what really sets it apart, is the incredible service provided by Peter and Haruka. They constantly go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is amazing,
