This pension is a great option for someone who wants to wind down after a hard day at the slopes. It is run by a friendly Japanese couple who felt like your Japanese parents. They were so warm throughout our entire stay. We were picked up from Grand Hirafu Welcome Center once we arrived on the bus from Sapporo by the Popcorn wagon and driven back to the bus terminal when we left.
Location is very handy with the shuttle bus stops to Hirafu and Hanazono slopes right in front of the pension. The bus stop to the main town Kutchan is also just round the corner. If you miss the last shuttle from Hirafu, the pension is also 15 minute walking distance so everything was very easy.
We stayed in twin bedroom with ensuite downstairs. It was very spacious (definitely our biggest room in Japan by far), there was even a separate front room to place our baggage. We also had our own TV so could enjoy watching Sochi Winter Olympics at night.
The common dining room was very cozy with the fireplace lit up at night. Hot home cooked breakfast was served daily and the menu also changed everyday which meant we didn't get bored.
Make sure to ask for local restaurant recommendations, we were advised to go to Kutchan for a cheaper dinner and found our favourite restaurant in Japan - Bistro Kutchan Sakaba. Our cute mother-like host also offered to make the bookings and called in Japanese.
Will definitely stay here again!

Like all good snow holidays - it's dependent on the weather: Inches of snow, temperature, cloud, rain etc. All of these can sometimes boil down to luck. Fortunately we had all of these on our side. So our trip was already off to a great start.

This was only enhanced further by our choice of accommodation. Cosy rooms, great location - 1 minute walk to the shuttle bus, and clean communal areas.

A special thanks to T and Steve for making our trip so easy and relaxed. Unfortunately this is their last year running the lodge so can't comment on if such a high standard will be maintained.

I stayed there for 2 weeks, the hosts, Tenille and Stephen, were absolutely amazing. They went out of their way for everyone, as did Tim, another of the part time hosts. I met so many great people while I was there, they definitely made sure everyone was enjoying themselves even when the snow conditions weren't amazing!! This lodge is close to bus stops that bring you up to the gondola and only a short walk from hirafu, I would definitely stay here again!!

Thanks for a fantastic trip, and anyone considering staying here, just do it!!

To be fair, I did not have very high expectations of Popcorn lodge because I don’t think the promo pictures do it right. It is actually a much nicer place than we expected. It is in the middle of a very residential and calm neighbourhood yet the shuttle makes it really easy to access the slopes. Our family of 5 got a very warm welcome from the amazing hosts Stephen and Tennille who made everything easy for us from buying our ski passes in advance to organising our gear rental and our transfers. We could put all our energy on our skiing and not worry about all the practicalities of skiing in Japan. The lodge is also very close to a particularly tasty soup restaurant that Stephen advised us on the fist night and I would certainly recommend it as well!!

Great place, big communal area with sofas and log fire, lots of tables and chairs, great breakfast during the peak winter season and free tea and coffee all day. Guests can also use the microwave and fridge etc. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The whole place was always kept really clean. The boot room was kept hot to dry out the ski/snowboard boots. The lodge was a 10-15 minute walk to the town with all the shops/restaurants/bars etc, although in the winter there are regular free shuttle buses to anywhere in the resort from right outside the lodge from 8am-8pm. The thing that really made our stay though, was the hospitality of the managers Alice and James, they were always so friendly and helpful and created such a great atmosphere. They also gave us loads of good recommendations for places to go (on and off the mountain!). We had the best week in Niseko, it was amazing, thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at Popcorn lodge, made even better by the hosts Alice & James who were so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We stayed in a really cool Japanese style 'loft room' where the the big single beds were on 3 levels (not bunk beds!). It's got a really nice open common area with a massive log fire making it lovely warm and cosy in the cold evenings, and a dining area for breakfast (toast, cereal, fruit, jam and delicious scrambled eggs). The lodge was kept really clean and tidy. Thanks Alice & James for a fantastic stay!

I stayed here for just 1 night while Moorea was full. It is run by the same management team and the same great vibe carries here. Hopefully you are lucky enough to get under the wing of this gang somehow (Moorea/Popcorn) . . .

Stayed for two weeks in February 2016, found the staff to be very friendly and helpful with the local area or even giving a lift. The place was always clean and tidy everyday. Highly recommend and will definitely stay again.

Perfect location right outside the bus stop takes you straight to lifts. And your first on the bus so you get a seat. You don't need to walk up any hills like if you stayed in the centre.

Mark and Sarah were top notch. Suggested where to ski, pick up and drop off to bus transfers. Hook ups with the rental place. Great breakfast, clean, have a van and took us to hospital in kutchan which was so helpful for us.

Can't recommend them and the lodge highly enough

Thanks guys

Popcorn Lodge is a great pension! Rooms are clean and comfortable. It's a 10 minute walk to all the things that Niseko has to offer without being horribly inconvenient. Sara and Marc were AMAZING hosts and I think they should market their services to all ski lodges who would be fortunate enough to secure them. They are courteous, professional, and accommodating. With ease and grace, Sarah answered all of my questions and took care of all my bookings before I even arrived. If I knew they'd be there again next season, staying at Popcorn Lodge would be a no-brainer.
