Detailed Reviews
Stayed in Oushuku - mineral onsen easily fitting two on balcony with views of mountains opposite, wonderfully decorated and apportioned room with everything you might need (apart from body moisturiser). Large soaking tub Property is gorgeous Large indoor and beautiful outdoor onsen Meals are delicately crafted - each meal felt like an event itself Minimal two night stay to enjoy this place, would like liked another night Store up the road with tastings of Umeshu and another area to sit if you want a change of scenery. Staff very friendly, things done old school way, making each guest very welcome and special

The minute you walk in, you relinquish your shoes. Everywhere is tatami and so we walk in our socks or indoor shoes, an immediate plus and relaxing moment.
Our room was called The Annex. It is apart from the hotel. The Annex is Japanese with tatami and western beds, very comfortable. When we approached the front door, the views off the private garden were gorgeously dramatic mountain cliffs and there are views of other mountains and the stream from the other side of The Annex as well. Spacious and open and extremely comfortable.
While many rooms come with a private dining room in the restaurant, the private eating room associated with the Annex also has another private garden with views of the mountains.
A small note: All liquids in the frig are complimentary, nice touch!
The service was excellent, well trained.
The food was delicious even though we have many dietary limits - like no meat, pork, heavy oils. They accommodated our restrictions with delicious, fresh fish and vegetables and fruit.
The onsens, even though public access as well, were clean and designed beautifully. We've been to many ryokans this year, mainly in Kyushu since we live here. This onsen had the most beautiful facilities - and the views were drop dead gorgeous. My jaw literally dropped when I saw the view from the onsen with the lounge chairs in the steaming water - and what an amazing onsen that was!!!
After much thought, the only downside is the outdoor tub in the Annex, which is really not an onsen since it used chlorinated water and the two of us had to squeeze in. Having said that, we already booked our next stay in the spring and cannot wait to return.

We are staying our second night here and we had a room with hot baths inside the room. Excellent amenities, great service and food. Should have spent another night be got to go. Kids friendly and they enjoyed the stay. Food was satisfactory and the service was top notch. The room and spaciousness was the best. The hardware and attention to detail was most impressive.

I have been with the Friends and We book all the type of the room. I have got Room 211 with great view near by Lobby. I think the best room is 106 which is huge. With Fantastic Onsen and Ceramic Therapy bed, everyone should try. I have made the Ume Syrup as activity and bring it home. The shop is huge and have variety of drink. The food serve with Japanese traditional.
I will come back again

My family and I stayed a night at Okuhita Onsen Umehibiki. This was one excellent modern ryokan and as of now it is still relatively new - under 2 years old. Given that its location is within a valley, it has good views of the nearby forests and hills.
The ryokan offers a return pick up service to and from Hita station, which has to be arranged beforehand. Upon arrival, we were given some sweets and plum drink before checking in. We stayed in the deluxe room which came with an outdoor bath. I must say, we really enjoyed the room. The ryokan also has a pillow gallery, which has various types of pillow and the best ones get snapped up fast!
Outside of the accommodation block, there are the outdoor and reservable baths (all guests must pay if want to use them) and the plum wine shop (which is affiliated to the ryokan) where one can participate in various activities and purchase plum wine. We did not try either baths.
Our meals were elaborate and did not disappoint. And they came with a plum based beverage - juice or wine. All served in a private room in one of the two restaurants, during the allotted meal time.
Service was excellent throughout our very brief stay. The staff is generally not fluent with English but they try hard to make our stay pleasant.
Highly recommended!

2023/11/2 Weather is sunny
I stayed at Umehibiki in Okuhita. The last time I stayed on 2023/6/30, the weather was terrible as a heavy rain special warning was issued, but this time the weather was good. After checking in, I moved to my room, Ogusuku 203. I left my luggage in the room and went to Umeshuku Oyama to buy souvenirs first, then I relaxed in the open-air bath in my room until dinner time. I had dinner at Shirakaga. This time, I was surprised by the extra-large grilled sweetfish (sweetfish caught by the staff). All the dishes that were served were delicious and I was very satisfied. On the day of my stay, I had ordered a whole cake to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but I was full from dinner and ate it in my room. Umehibiki gave me a gift to celebrate our anniversary. I appreciate your consideration. Thank you very much. I will stay again in a different season!

It was a trip I was looking forward to.
The building itself looked beautiful, but I was curious about the following:
①Tabi, your own socks and bare feet are required to move around the facility. Some people are interested, so I thought it would be good to have slippers.
② Cooking is neither possible nor impossible.
It was taking so long to serve.
First drinks were also hard to come by. I wondered if there were so many customers around.
③ I borrowed a garbage can for diapers, but it was only enough for one bag, so I think it's better to check the contents before renting.
④ The children's cooking was also very fashionable, but too mature for 2-3 year olds.
I felt it would be better to consider what people of all ages could eat.
⑤ Because it was a mountain, there were really many bugs.
Too many bugs at night to bring myself to the open air
It was a bit disappointing because it came with an open-air bath.
⑥ The bath was lukewarm, so if you want to get in even though it is warm, the public bath may not be enough.
It was an expensive time, and a bit disappointing because it was quite a lot of money for a family.
It's such a beautiful Inn, so I feel like it would be a better Inn if we were a little more creative.
Good point
① The staff all responded with smiles and the atmosphere was very good.
② The kids room was smaller than I expected, but the kids really enjoyed it.
③ The service ice cream in the bath was good.
Breakfast was very good.
⑤ The meal was good because it was a private room.
⑥ It was good to have Hita Tenryosui and juice in my room for free.

This is my second time staying here.
Everything was perfect last time, so I invited my mother and recommended it to my acquaintances.
I booked Uguisu-shuku this time.
The room was nice, but
I was surprised by the black mold in the indoor bath. The bathtub pillow, under the bath stool, the shower head and the walls were all black, and it was disgusting, so I cleaned it with the toothbrush provided in the amenities before entering.
There was dust on the clock in the room, and garbage under the feet of the dinner room.
I don't think it's aging, but
I'm staying here because I want to feel something out of the ordinary, so it's a shame.
Dinner was served late, and my husband said "It's late" several times, which made me feel a little sorry.
I was happy to receive a celebration because my birthday was coming up.
Breakfast was also perfect and delicious.
Umehibiki is a wonderful place, with a wonderful inn, food and staff.
I'm sure it's difficult to continue, but
I'm concerned about the decline in quality that I felt.
I hope you'll make me want to come again.
