We loved this hotel! It was beautiful, and our room was very spacious with a great view of the river and bridges. Athough I had only booked a standard room, which I thought would be facing the car park, we were pleasantly surprised with the room we were provided. It was great to have a spacious room with table and chairs and plenty of room to open suitcases after staying in small pokey rooms in the city The buffet breakfast and dinner was fantastic although we are Aussies, we respect that it is not necessarily going to cater for Westerners, so we made to do with what was provided, and there was plenty! A couple of things that didn’t suit us (being Aussies). Strange teacups with no handles (although all other hotel cups were ceramic mugs with handles) and very small towels. The bath mat was no bigger than a handtowel and the main towels were not too much bigger than a large hand towel. The pillows were also way to firm, but if you like firm pillows, this would of course suit.
If you can’t read Japanese like us, then make sure you know the hotel location as there is no English signage at the front entrance. The hotel has a shuttle bus from the train station, but it is only a 5 minute walk. It’s nice and close to the train station and Kurobe gorge rail train. A very small quiet town.

Two couples enjoyed staying in this nice Orix Hotel and Resort, which would be excellent for couples with children to enjoy and even better during the summer months since there is an outside swimming area.
We stayed during the Golden Week, and there was social distancing and sanitation measures being practiced. We had a room with beds which was located a little bit of a walking distance from the main dining room, but it was a lovely room with its own private bath, too.

It rained for two days during our 8 days trip in Japan and I am very glad that it was during our stay here at this big hotel. The hotel fetched us both ways to and from the station as it was rainy. We could spend our time at the lounge with the big glass windows to view the two Yamibiko bridges and the gorge. There are dispenser machines here for all kinds of drinks including milk tea.
We went to both the indoor and outdoor baths at the women onsen in the evening. When we went again in the morning, we realised that the locations for the men and women onsen were swapped. Toner and moisturizer are provided in the dressing room.
There are a wide variety of food provided at both the dinner and breakfast buffet. The quality of the food is good.
Room is spacious and comfortable. By staying at this hotel, we could ride the Kurobe Gorge train at 8.17 am.
Staff is also polite, friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel if visiting Unazuki Onsen.

What an amazing position this hotel is in. It’s a typical Japanese style hotel looking over the gorge. The hotel provides a kettle and tea in your room and you can choose your amenities from the reception area. We included dinner to our stay and it was an amazing buffet spread with cooking stations. Breakfast was also very good here. Then onsen provided amazing views of the gorge also. Brilliant stay

Stayed in a traditional Japanese room in November 2022 and everything exceeded our expectations. The food, the service, the rooms everything was great and clean. And the onsens were exceptional. Already miss the place. Would definitely recommend.

Renovated and name-changed hotel in Unazuki area. Refreshed for more casual type of guests. Staff doesn't seem to be experienced, with some who can't communicate well in Japanese. It advertises widely that hot-spring is open for any walk-in, but there are cases they don't open up for any walk-ins, without any notification anywhere.

This ryokan is value for money. Their buffet dinner and breakfast is very good both in quantity and quality. The view to double red bridge from hotel is spectacular. The location is close to Unazuki train station. The only problem is there isn't non-smoking room.

We stayed at Unazuki New Otani during our "Japan by Rail" holiday.

This is apparently the largest hotel in a small town, and is a short 3-minute walk from the train station. The very helpful staff in tourist office at the train station will be able to point the way to the hotel and provide a local map.

Being a small town that probably caters mostly to domestic tourists, there was hardly any English-speaking staff in the hotel, and almost everything was in Japanese.

The hotel did not have any non-smoking rooms - their idea of a non-smoking room is to remove the ash tray. Our room and the corridors smell of stale cigarette smoke. We had a Japanese-style room with tatami mats and futon beds. The furniture and fittings were showing signs of age.

The hotel did not have any private onsen baths, but there were 2 very large common baths with a jacuzzi to help cool down.

Dinnner was kaiseki style and was quite delicious although not the best we've tasted on this trip, while breakfast was buffet style.

This is a large modern ryokan onsen hotel which means if you are looking for a personalised intimate ryokan experience, you won't find it here. Nevertheless it has all the right bells and whistles for a comfortable stay in the style of a Japanese ryokan - just upsized! Everything is larger - the tatami rooms that housed our family of 7, the large tiered outdoor baths, the dining hall that felt more like a huge cafeteria. No kaiseki style meals but a generous buffet (or viking as they call it) that includes a free flow of drinks - including alcohol! The food was good and the variety was wide. Nice public areas that include facilities for table-tennis and even a small rock climbing corner for children.

The hotel also offers a shuttle service to and from the Kurobe-Unazukionsen shinkansen station, convenient for guests. From the hotel, it is only a 5min walk to the train station that would lead you deep into the beautiful Kurobe gorge.

Great views from all rooms - including the onsen baths, the lobby etc. Guests see the hills and the river as well as the iconic red bridges of Unazuki Onsen. It's a nice splurge for us in the middle of our trip but one that we enjoyed greatly.

The only downside if at all, is spotty wifi reception in the rooms with the best signals only in the public spaces.
