This campsite is in process of being taken over by new owners. When finished it should be quite nice and a better alternative to the dump of an RV park in Prince Rupert. It is only about a 15 minute drive from PR. Our only beef was that the place was under construction and only one washroom available but they still charged full rate. Also, the sites are not very level but do have clean gravel and most are fairly private. Wifi is only available beside the office and because of the construction there was really nowhere to stand or sit while using it. Staff was friendly.
My wife and I visited in the summer of 2021. We were camping throughout BC and wanted to stay in the Prince Rupert to enjoy the ocean and seafood, we chose Kinnikinnick after the only other campsite in the area had some negative reviews (sites were too close together). Everything about Kinnikinnick was great! New ownership as of February 2021, the wifi was strong, the cabin ($45/night) was perfect for us since we had our own bedding and sleeping bag. Hot showers, laundry, clean bathrooms and supportive and kind staff.
The location is great. Not a good park for 5th wheels. Very steep hill to get into the site and cramped sites. The foliage in our site was so dense we had no sunlight. Also no room for lawn chairs. Picnic table was in the way and should be scrapped. Moss all over it.
We came across this spot and were very satisfied with a simple yurt to get out of the rain and saved us time from setting up tent, etc. The yurt was a bonus surprise - we thought it was fun, especially for the reasonable price of no more than 30$ - score! They also had a nice washroom spot, we enjoyed some hot showers to freshen up. Small library shelf with computer area, quiet for most part when we were around, which was back in June 2017.
Very nice place, a bit noise on road sites, only 12 km from p rupert, nice friendly people/owner manager, free wifi weak in some places, free hit and clean bathrooms and showers. Def would go here again. Thx
Pulled in off the Haida Gwaii ferry and within minutes were settled into our Yurt, which we reserved ahead of time. For $30, it rocked. Dry, off the ground, and very cozy for four people. Highly recommended as all you need is your sleeping bag, pillow and mattress. And, they have on-site laundry and free wifi!
My wife and I wanted to stay a night in a yurt. So, she booked us at Kinnikinnick a yurt. Unfortunately, she did not quite look deeply into it. It is not a yurt. It is a platform tent in the shape of a yurt. Other than that, the manager was helpful, the sleep was awesome and even the bugs were not that bad. The yurtent 2 fit two to three comfortably. There is a firepit with not much to sit on around it, unless you want to do a smoke or heat therapy right next to the ring. But the wooden walkway is always there to provide a place to rest your bum on. If you're into plants, you will have a good sampling of BC rainforest forest floor plants at arm's reach from the walkway - including giant skunk cabbage or Labrador tea.
Entrance to the park is easy to miss because it is a narrow rocky road which leads immediately to a steep hill with not enough room to park and register. We have a 38 foot Class A motorhome which will only fit into a couple of sites. Getting into the sites requires very good driving and back up skills. Washrooms are old and cramped. I would not use the laundry machines.Wifi and water pressure are good. The site we were able to access only had 15 amp service which we didn't know until we finally got into the site.
We lucked out getting one of the last spots here on a Saturday night. Good price with nice little sites. Our only complaint was a diesel truck arriving around midnight and backing their trailer into the site right across from ours (made for a loud 20 minute wake up).
I’d recommend this place to anyone. It is a little steep but soo very cozy. Well be coming here anytime we’re close. The wife and I will def be telling people bout here. Very close to the North Pacific canary as well. Definitely one of the best RV places I’ve been 😎👍
