A friend and I used this gasthof as a base for day hiking, and it was, in a word, wonderful. The room was remarkably clean and comfortable, the included breakfast was very complete, the Biergarten/ restaurant served wonderful meals and beer, and the staff was most helpful. The location was quiet and peaceful. I look forward to staying here again and would recommend it to any of my family and friends. The WiFi was a bit spotty at first, but the staff was quick to get it fixed. This stay was a slice of Bavarian paradise, and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Overall a good place to stay, typical for the Bayern region. The rooms are quite large, the beds are fairly comfortable but quite simple and outdated for today standards.
The highlight of this place is the restaurant where again you can enjoy a typical Bayern decor, cuisine and local drinks.
My experience after 2 days spent here:

Pros:
Best price for this kind of establishment in the region.
Good food and the opportunity to catch a glimpse into the lifestyle of this region.
By car quite close to the Chiemsee and the Alps.
WiFi is working fine.
Cons:
There is just a sink in the room and the toilet and shower are located on the same floor and are common for all the guests on the floor . This can be a bit of a inconvenience.
Even if during the night you can have a good sleep, during the day until the restaurant, located a floor underneath, closes you can hear all the noises from the kitchen, reception and even from the restaurant.
Location wise, it is kind of in the middle of nowhere and without a car it is hard to do something during the day.
The average age of the guests is over 50. Therefore it's not really a place for the young.

Altogether, the very good price, good food and the friendliness of the hosts still makes it a place I can recommend if you are not bothered by the little things that I mentioned above.

The staff is mostly german-speaking, but the owner (Franz, I think?) spoke excellent english and was extremely friendly and accomodating. Picked us up from the train station and gave us great tips for travelling in the area. The restaurant is awesome and has a very good breakfast. Our room was a good size and had a balcony with a beautiful view of the valley. Did a hike up the mountain to the secluded church. Up and down can take about 5 hours, so be prepared, but it's worth it if you have a nice day. Fairly easy to get to the Chiemsee, but would've been easier if we had a car.

Very scenic, friendly, charming, and great value. Even the wifi was better than many of the hostels in the big cities.

Great food and accommodation at very reasonable price. Room was large and very clean, shared bathroom down the hall also spotless. Stayed on a friday which is pork Knuckle night which was excellent and popular with locals. Very polite and friendly staff. Beautifull location close to mountains and Chiemsee, also only about ten minutes from the autobahn to Salzburg so perfect for a stopover too.The landlord also helped us work out how to get the roof down on our hire car too. Many thanks. We'll be sure to stay again next time we're in the area.
