laskill grange is an amazing place, we received such a warm welcome before being shown down to our cottage. The smithy that’s sleeps 4 was a charming cottage, loads of room for two of us and our little pooch. The location is fab there are loads of lovely walks to do in the north york moors and then come back to a cosy warm cottage and enjoy the log burner. Wifi was excellent. We treated ourselves to going up to laskill country house for dinner where we served 4 course dinner that isn’t to be missed and was excellent value for money.we will be back
We had a nice week long stay here with my family. The cottage was nice, everything you need in the kitchen and a bathroom for each of the bedrooms. There was outdoor seating looking onto the horses field which was nice. We also used the hot tub which is shared between the other cottages. The only down sides were there were quite a lot of cob webs in the cottage, wouldn't take long to give a slightly better clean and the heating in the bathrooms came on the evening, which would not turn down on the radiators, given that the weather when we were there was in the high 20°'s this made for very poor sleeping conditions even on top of the sheets, windows open and bathroom doors closed! The village of Helmsley was absolutely lovely, we were particularly fond of The Feathers pub and there was plenty to do and visit within an hours drive away. Would definitely recommend.
We booked in to The Granary. My friend phoned up to double confirm that we would be arriving on the Friday and the lady she spoke to advised us that the cottage would be open, the key would be inside and someone would pop by and see us a little later. We arrived at 5pm on the Friday, we left at 10am Monday and never saw any staff not even once! Which I found a bit bizarre. No welcome, no "is everything ok?".
The cottage itself is lovely. It was myself and two friends staying and it has three bedrooms, all ensuite. Perfect. Taller folk may wish to opt for the downstairs bedroom as the showers in the two upstairs rooms have low ceilings/wooden beams running through.
The lack of Wifi was an inconvenience, particularly as we had to walk in the pitch black over to the house to stand outside and log into theirs. A router in each cottage would be ideal and is feasible as a few different routers popped up near the house, but only one is accessible to guests.
I have already recommended the cottage to friends who I know would love it. With a few tweaks and a warmer greeting/introduction this place could be perfect.
My son & I spent a wonderful weekend at Laskill earlier this month. It's a great base to explore the moors, just off the main road heading north from Helmsley, close to Rievaulx Abbey. The room was very comfortable with its own large bathroom, and there is also a shared shower room off the hall. Sue made us feel very much at home, and served a wonderful full breakfast for us. It's located on a farm, and there's a fantastic view from the back of the house out over the valley with the sheep and horses in the fields. The second morning I was up early and took a lovely walk a couple of miles over the hill and into the village of Hawnby.
Sue is very friendly and is on hand to give any help and advice about the are. An evening meal is available if you require one. We had a very comfortable stay and would go back. Our room had on suite and with bath and there is a shower room on the landing.
