We loved Casa Barbara. It was really good – welcoming and helpful people (especially the lovely Carolina), a good sized room (although not a huge amount of space for clothes etc), with two big and really comfortable beds, good shower and a nice outdoor space looking out on to the lovely green garden area, with some evening sightings of raccoons. It is near the centre of Holbox, so close to all restaurants etc, a short walk to the beach, but still very peaceful. The pool was a good size – a bit shady but we were quite happy with that.
My husband and are are staying here for 2 weeks for our 10th anniversary, we chose this hotel because of the pool- the pool is slightly more than half full and apparently slimy on bottom and not clear- so I have to assume untreated, not comfortable swimming in it. All of my requests to fill and treat pool have been ignored and I’m still hoping that it will be fixed. We also made special requests to have a second level to avoid screaming toddlers, requests are only applied to availability which I totally understand but the second level was empty when we checked in, yet we are on the bottom floor surrounded by screaming toddlers. The room is nice and the cleaning staff are wonderful but we will not stay here again. However we will be back to Isla Holbox
This hotel is perfectly situated between the heart of Holbox and the ferry. No need for the golf cart taxis. I walked everywhere. My room had a comfortable bed and the AC worked. A con was the low water pressure. It seemed better at night but during the morning it was a steady drip...Nonetheless, I expected the basics and it suited my needs since I spent all day in town and on the beach. Staff was friendly. Would have been nice if they offered bikes and breakfast. Ask for a room in the back near the pool. Theres a mini mart a block away.
Stayed at Casa Barbara last week. Very clean, nice looking, quite hotel. Basic room with good AC and great water pressure (when it works). Hot water was also good. If you are a budget friendly, no frills sort of traveler, this place is perfect. It has a pool, hammocks, and they give you 2 bottles of water in your room each day.
The water was out while I was there, for basically a whole day. Not sure what the issue was, but we didn't care much-just go to the beach! Internet is so-so, but I think that's more of the remote location then anything. Casa Barbara has more then 1 router, which means when it does work, you can get internet in your room (you don't see this much in Mexico).
All in all, I would stay here again. Good location and a decent hotel.
Great location near ferry and beach and across a little grocery store. Room was basic, bed comfortable, clean. Good a/c and shower. Would have made a world of difference if room had a fridge and hooks to hang your towels. The pool was a really nice bonus with cool water and plants all around for shade. A welcomed oasis after the hot sun at the beach. Would have been nice to have more lounge chairs by the pool. Also this is listed as a B&B- note there is NO breakfast or coffee served.
