Thank you Jan & Geoff for being just perfect hosts and welcoming us into your beautiful home following our recent stay with you. You both work incredibly hard ensuring the finer details are spot on when looking after your guests. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had found something special.
Our bedroom was very comfortable, cosy and very tastefully decorated with a four poster bed, together with plenty of storage space for our belongings. The adjoining bathroom with its roll top bath, was cosy and warm. Your high standard of cleanliness, throughout your home and your guest bedrooms are outstanding, which was even more important to my Husband and I during these difficult times of C-19.
Breakfast was super - especially the eggs, laid by your own hens! The additional choice of cooked breakfasts, cereal, homemade jams, prepared fresh fruit and berries was a wonderful start to the day. Thank you.
Your location worked really well for us. Everything we wanted was within walking distance - Gosport Marina, restaurants and bars, to the ferry across Portsmouth Harbour, and of course, Stokes Bay a 10 minute walk away (just sorry we didn't get to see a sunset). You also went out of your way in helping us find a suitable location for dinner each evening, for which we were really grateful for your guidance.
Thank you, Sam & Neil xx
My partner and I stayed at this beautiful B & B for two nights and could not fault a thing. Very friendly and welcoming hosts. The house itself was lovely and our room and bathroom very comfortable and well thought out. Breakfast in the delightful garden set us up for the day. Very close to the beach front and Alverstoke village. Short drive to the ferry that takes you over to Portsmouth should you wish to visit the many attractions there. We would most certainly stay here again.
This was our third visit to No 5.The first time, we gave it a glowing review on this site. Our last visit was spoiled however by proprietor Jan, who shouted up the stairs 'Hurry up, I'm going out' when we were 15 minutes late leaving (caused by her, showing us photos at the breakfast table). She did it again as we came downstairs. She then sped off angrily in her car, as we stood open mouthed on the gravel! We vowed never to return but then stupidly decided two years later to give it another go.
We had a generally good stay until the final morning (we wrote a nice review in the guestbook the night before).Jan was not very friendly though, toast was overdone, cherry tomatoes(?) instead of grilled tomato again. Jan had made a throwaway comment the morning before to my wife saying, 'trying on another dressing gown?', as she disappeared into the kitchen. We thought it was a strange remark but then forgot about it.
We made sure to pack the night before and leave at 9.30 (check out time is an early 10am), so Jan would have no excuse to shout at us again. About 9.15 Jan called out 'Linda' outside our room and when my wife answered, she said 'Can I ask you again why you tried on all the dressing gowns?'. There were four in the wardrobe - I didn't wear one, but Linda tried on three. Different sizes and materials, all in the wardrobe in our room! She then said 'no-one's done that before, weird!', then told us she was going out.
So on two occasions as we were leaving, instead of Jan saying 'nice to have met you again, have a safe journey' as most other hosts have done, my wife was bizzarrely quizzed over her use of the dressing gowns, then insulted.
We made the mistake of being on the premises till 12:30 on Wednesday and came back at 3:30 as we changed our plans and the weather was bad. We'd forgotten that it says in the 'House Rules' that you are not allowed on the premises between 11am and 4pm, and we also spilled some tea on the carpet. This must have upset Jan - we are so sorry to have broken the strict rules and been so clumsy, and given you excess washing. .
Husband Geoff however was, friendly. chatty and helpful. Than you,Geoff.
The website states there is 'plenty of off road parking'. This is untrue. The owners three Mercedes were parked outside, leaving no space for visitors, We were asked to move our car after 30 minutes of arriving as we were blocking their cars access, although parked carefully. We remained parked on the road our entire stay, so not to be disturbed again.
The house is beautiful and the breakfasts good (though not as good as before). We won't be returning as our stay was spoiled again. and Jan should consider if paying guests are just too much of an inconvenience to her.
We have just had a short break staying at this lovely bed and breakfast which is in the village of Alverstoke in Gosport. We had the most comfortable room, which was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. All little touches were thought of such as dressing gowns and slippers and ample toiletries in the bathroom which had a fabulous roll top bath and shower with lots of fluffy towels. The breakfasts were outstanding with lots to choose from and beautifully presented, setting us up for the day ahead!
During our stay we took the very short ferry ride over to Portsmouth visiting the historic dockyard and the Spinnaker Tower and also managed to do some shopping in Gunwharf Quays. We also had a drive along the coast road to Lee on Solent and some of the little villages along the way, stopping at some lovely little tea rooms.
A special thanks to our hosts Jan and Geoff for letting us share your beautiful house and for helping to make our stay so enjoyable.
Loved this BNB, Jan and Geoff were great hosts, house was beautiful, room fantastic, lovely little touches that made the stay just that extra bit special.
Bathroom was great with so many extras, great body wash and shampoos, everything you could need.
The added addition of Jan and Geoff's very friendly dogs and cats was lovely.
Breakfast was outstanding, so much variety and very yummie!
