We have been to Alpenland Sport hotel many times and always leave feeling very relaxed. The beds are very comfortable and every room had a balcony. The breakfast buffet has a huge variety including waffles, a large selection of whole grain breads and rolls and all kinds of fun müsli ingredients and yogurt. The pool, fitness and sauna areas are great and never overly full. The restaurants in the hotel are great, but there are also many delicious options within walking distance. We love it here!
The suite was very spacious and we appreciated having a dining table with chairs as well as lots of wardrobe and cupboard space. Our bedroom and balcony was unfortunately facing the back of the shopping mall making it noisy due to deliveries very early in the morning. Unluckily it was also situated next to the staff stair case and the steps and door opening and closing throughout the night affected our sleep quality. The beds however were the most comfortable we experienced in a long time. The daily swim in the huge pool was a highlight with the kids given the average weather conditions during our stay. The hotel location is very handy to shops, 3 supermarkets, the pharmacy, doctor and plenty of restaurants. Free Parking can be found a couple hundred metres away.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Alpenland in St Johann im Pongau. This hotel gets everything right. The rooms are decent sized (by European standards) comfy beds and robes, good toilettries, nice pool, hot tub, sauna, gym, recreation areas (ping pong, pool etc).
The front desk staff is exceptional...shout out to Sarah who gave us wonderful recommendations for sightseeing, hiking and biking in the area. Every request was met promptly and cheerfully.
The room decor is a little dated ( they are refurbishing the rooms a couple at a time) however, they are immaculately clean, very adequate and in such a beautiful location. Ours had a nice patio with a sensational view of the mountains and the church.
The hotel is very near a variety of good cafes and restaurants. There is a wonderful bakery across the street as well as a grocery. It IS walking distance from the train station (however it is a long uphill trek...so you might want a taxi if you have much luggage or the weather is unfavorable)
We rented E-bikes from the hotel to explore the surrounding area. It is a great place to ride with miles of bike paths and the rental bikes were superb and a good value at 26 Euro per day.
The location is also good, close to Werfen and its castle, a quick 1 hour train ride to Salzburg and maybe a 3 hour ride to Vienna
We did not rent a car and did not feel a need for one as our goal was to hike as much as possible and the train was available for visiting other areas
Hotel is a good starting point for visiting the lakes, hills and mountains on foot or by bike (or by cableway). After the hard hike swimming in a hotel pool is refreshing! And pool is open till 10 p.m.!
Loved our week at St Johann im Pongau Alpenland Resort in early June. Pretty location, spacious room, spacious bathroom. Rooms quite dated but very clean and comfortable. No air con but we had mild temperatures so it didn't matter. Staff went over and above to help us in any way they could. The onsite mini bus tour operator was super helpful;. Resort facilities were great - restaurants, pool, grounds - couldn't be happier. It was a 50 minute train ride in to Salzburg - very easy. An easy walk to the train station (less than 10 minutes) but uphill all the way home so we usually caught a cab back to the resort. It was also really handy being within steps of a SPAR supermarket and other shops and restaurants in the town. Would return and would recommend.
