We visited Palma last week and on arrival to our hotel we found that they had double booked us. We were then asked to spend two night here at the Hotel Serrano. Our other hotel has also upgraded our stay to half board so we got to experience breakfast and evening meal here at the hotel.
On arriving late afternoon on our first day we went around the pool and paid 15 euros to use the 4poster bed as they had no sun loungers left. We only used this for a couple of hours which would of been nice if they had let us have it for half the price but not to worry.
The room we stayed in on the 3rd floor was really nice. Lovely big bathroom with double sink and bath. Nice touch with flip flops and robes for our stay. The air conditioning was very good.
We had a room that overlooked the pool and It was nice to sit out on an evening.
The food was ok and a nice buffet.
We had an all inclusive stay at the other hotel which I have reviewed and that was a 4* hotel and the food was nice there then at the Serrano. The food did let the stay down. The restaurant was a little dark, no outdoor seating.
The safe were friendly and when we checked in offered us a glass of bubbles and truffle. Lovely touch.
Very German hotel and we didn't come across another English person while staying in this part of the island.
The room was the best part of this hotel.
Nice stay but I wouldn't book any package other than just bed and breakfast. Not far to walk to the front and have meals in the nice restaurants we saw while out. We only stayed for 2 nights so didn't get chance to experience any entertainment.
As all English reviews, very much German. Average food, no outdoors dining very corporate no atmosphere. Extra charge for beds around pool and top terrace pool.
The best thing though was the spa and personal trainer Victoria. I had one to one yoga sessions every day for no extra cost. Huge shame this is not advertised as she was BRILLIANT.
Eating out is a must as loads of lovely restaurants with beautiful walk around to harbour.
We spent a week there. The weather was beautiful. Totally enjoyed going to the beach Son Moll. Spent our afternoons on the pool. The area is a great location. We had a junior suite wich is very spacious. Two balconies one looked to the beach and the other to the pool. At night when you open the doors is great breeze. The food is excellent there. A great variety for breakfast buffet and also for dinner buffet. Very friendly personnel. Also great for accommodating for your needs. We had a great time. This was our second time there. Some great entertainment to at night after dinner. They come up with so cool ideas if you stay on the pool around lunch time.
I did think about giving this hotel an "Average", but after considering all of the negative points, I decided on a "Poor". It all started with the rooms in the hotel. My sister had booked this holiday for my Mum and my 2 sisters. My mum is 86. all she wanted was a room with a Balcony and a Sea View. I booked my stay there separately, as a surprise. We all arrived at the Hotel at the same time, although I was on a different flight. They had only 1 room for my Mum and sisters and it did not have a Sea View. My Sister stated that she had booked 2 rooms. 1 Disabled room for my Mum and 1 room for my 2 sisters. After much frayed discussions and the receptionist stating that the Hotel was full, I ended up having to relinquish my room and all 4 of us ended up in a 2 roomed "Junior Suite". 3 beds were put in 1 room and I had the other bedroom. Not a good start. I would point out that all of the guests, apart from us, were German. Spanish and German were the main languages spoken in the hotel and some staff had some English, but not all.
It is supposed to be 5 Star. All of the toilets in the Public areas use a system of having to press the light switch, which then comes on. Normal, you are saying. Well, they go off after about a minute and are not motion activated. This proved most distressing for my Mum when she was in the Disabled toilet. The light went out and the only switch was by the door, which she was unable to reach from where she was. I think that this is a disgrace in this day and age. The same goes for the other toilets, but as they are smaller, you can just about reach the switch to turn on the light again.
They wanted 25 Euros for the week to put Tea and Coffee in the room. 15 Euros for Wifi, or 3 Euros for an hour. Although there was a good choice of food for Breakfast and Dinner, (we were Half Board), it was the same all week, with the exception of a different "Nationality" dish each evening. There was Steak only on 1 night, the same with Prawns. Staff in the restaurant seemed to cover all over the restaurant, rather than certain areas, so this led to long delays in taking away plates. There is no free Jug of Water or Tea or Coffee after dinner. Only "Paid For" drinks.
Most of the sun loungers round the pool are free, but there are some 4 poster sunbeds, but they charge for them as well. The outdoor and indoor pool were clean, but believe it or not, the sea was warmer than both. Another point to be aware of, the Germans have no inhibitions about using the Sauna and Steam room "Naked", which was a bit of a shock to my mum and sisters lol.
What amused me most was that there was Entertainment every night and all in English. Nothing to write home about though.
The local area is nice, with lots of restaurants, all displaying German menus. We didn't come across any British people whilst we were there. We got coffee and Tea for 1.6 euros at a lot of the local restaurants, which was half the price of the hotel. A lovely snack was Bread Alioli with Olives. 3.50 euros and feeds 2 happily. Very tasty.
A bus trip to Calla Millor is 2 euros, whilst a taxi there is 22 euros. Much bigger resort with lots of shops and a good day out.
Warning!!! buy you tobacco, cigarettes at the local Tabac shops anywhere on the Island, but NOT at the Airport. It was more expensive "Duty and Tax Free" at the airport than anywhere else. Same with some alcohol,.
Hope this helps. Will add photos later.
We had an amazing time at this hotel. On arrival we were met by the managers who offered us Champagne and were very approachable and friendly. We had booked a suite for 11 days on a half board tariff. Checking in was easy and the receptionist very helpful she said there was a surprise for us. What a surprise. They had up-graded us to the imperial suite. This amazing apartment consisted of a massive bed and bedroom area, a sitting area desk and corridor and walk-in wardrobe area. The bathroom was huge and all marble. It had a Jacuzzi bath and a multiple head walk in shower. We had two large balconies furnished with chairs and tables but the best part was the roof top terrace, which was massive and overlooked Son Moll beach and the sea. This had a private swimming pool and loungers. Son Moll beach is a beautiful sandy well ran beach approx. 50 metres from the hotel. The pool area was lovely with plenty of loungers available and the pool bar was excellent, although it was difficult to leave the roof top terrace to go to the pool. That didn't happen too often! Breakfast and dinner was in a lovely dining room and the food was excellent and varied in verity from night to night. They even had a pianist playing for us one breakfast time. There was an assortment of evening entertainment which was good. We order room service which was prompt and well presented. The mini bar was well stocked. The room and all areas of the hotel were kept immaculately clean and well serviced. The hotel is located in the Son Moll area of Cala Ratjada, on the sea front which has a purpose built walk way to the town centre. It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk into the centre but this walk has many bars, restaurants and cafes to spend time in. Possibly the best part of the hotel is the staff. They are the most helpful and friendlies staff I have ever had on any holiday I have been on, and I've been on a good few. From the Managers, who we spoke to every day to the waiting staff and the house keeping staff. They were attentive and friendly. Loved this hotel and its staff. I have every intentions of going back.
