We booked an beautiful double room in the main building at the cliff, but instead were put in an awful delapidated apartment a few hundred meters from the hotel in a residential area. The bathroom smelled of sewer, the boiler was so small that you could fill the bath only half, let alone have 2 people enjoy a hot shower. Plumbing for the bath consisted of plastic tubes attached to the outside of the tub, which took hours to drain. The gardenview we booked actually consisted of a view at a parking, which was maybe understandable because we did not get the room we booked. The management blaimed booking.com. If you book with them, you never know what you are going to get, the lady explained.
Although the main building is beautifully located and decorated, these apartments are dark, barren, not decorated at all. We think the management sell all their beautiful rooms twice and put half of the guests in the other complex.
Breakfast was mediocer at best. The coffee was tepid, factory produced bread and croissants and if you asked for an egg, the lady complied after a deep sigh. Towels were very old and thin.

There is the main hotel where is the reception and also apartments 2 blocks far away, u should look or ask first! Apartment was old but very nice, furniture, equiped and the neighborhood is very nice, quiet, lot of green areas and around u can find many restaurantes, shops, bars, etc. I loved it! Is more personal and not 'cold' like a hotel with lots of people and only a room to sleep. People working in hotel is very friendly. I would stay there again if I'm lucky to back to Madeira :)

A quirky property in a lovely area, directly on the cliffs.Accommodation was more like hostel rooms, sparsely furnished and grubby. Bathroom smelled of sewage if door left ajar. Unable to open curtains or door as pathway directly outside. No private outside space, and certainly no garden view. Just a small bush, then the passageway and a wall! The room was a good size, and a couple of comfortable chairs would have made our stay more comfortable, as would decent pillows. The staff were all polite and helpful, but the breakfast area had dirty floors and the service was somewhat chaotic. On one occasion the toast bread was mouldy and the rolls were stale. There is a small bar but no pool or garden to sit in. The highlight of this property is the quiet cliffside location, and the sound of corys shearwater birds calling at night.

Positive things are the location, parking, view from the balcony over the cliff (amazing), sound of the ocean, friendly staff.

Bad things: rooms are worn out, decorated with a complete lack of taste, breakfast is low quality and lacks on variety. Additionally privacy is almost none since there are no windows at most rooms and the walk way is just in front of the room's glass doors (you can't open the curtains since everyone walking will see you).

Overall is a little pricey for the quality you get for (compared with nearby hotels).
If you can spend a little more, go for another hotel.
