We stayed at La Merveille on our way to visit family in West Brittany. Roger and the teams welcome was the start of what was a very enjoyable stay, drinks on the lawn to start our visit were most welcome after the drive there. The room was very clean and beautifully furnished, we had a room with 3 beds as we had our grandson with us. The grounds have a small swimming pool, goats and chickens, trampolines and swings which we enjoyed spending time in. Dinner was a very pleasant experience starting with home made quiche followed by pork loin and finishing off with an excellent home made apple crumble, they also prepared fish fingers and chips for our grandson. The food and service were of a very high standard and the atmosphere created by Roger and the team made us feel very comfortable. Breakfast was also very good with a lovely selection of hot and cold foods available. I have no hesitation in recommending La Merveille and will be visiting again on our next trip.
Stayed overnight at La Merveille and from the moment of our arrival until we left we were delighted with the level of attention and effort made by Roger and his family to make our stay enjoyable. We had asked if we could have a twin room which was provided in the top floor. A twin bed room with an suite facility was ideal for us.
We were given an option of a 3 course meal to be confirmed before arrival but we decided to venture into Arromanches. We were given some advice, mainkybtaht It gets busy on a weekend evening and a booking was made for us in a local restaurant.
Detailed information was given that helped us plan out trip to Mont St Michel the next morning which meant we avoided the crowds later in the morning.
A lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon with toast, tea or coffee with a selection of fresh pastries, cereals, yoghurts and fruits was laid on to start our day off in good stead.
Make sure you have sat nav or know where the location is beforehand. Arromanches is a short drive about 15mins away.
Overall this was excellent value and the level of service for a B&B was fantastic. I'd recommend this place if you plan to visit Normandy or Mont St Michel.
We spent at La Merveille just one night, with our children ( 4 y.o. and 7 months old respectively).
With a GPS, you will have no problem to find the B&B. Without a GPS I suppose it is not so simple since the B&B is located in a small village (Le Luot) outside Avranches. Basically...en campagne! The B&B is nearby a little church but, as most of the churches of
Normandy, this one has a cemetery around. We found this panorama "pittoresque", but someone might not have the same feeling... Anyway, the place is surely peaceful. When we arrived, Mr Scott and his assistant Bojana (a "workaway" student from Slovenia) welcomed us. Mr Scott speaks English (being English... I guess) and French. Bojana speaks several languages and very fluently (also Italian). They assigned us the room no. 1. The B&B hall is old style (British? French? Mountain?). Maybe just old.. Personally we think that it should be renewed a little bit. Anyway it is welcoming enough. Room 1 is very spacious (6 beds!), clean and tidy. For a family this is important. We also appreciated the welcome drinks on the table! In the garden there is a small swimming pool (which has been deeply cleaned by Bojana despite it was late when we arrived and there was no sun), and two trampolines (jumping parks), both enjoyed by my family. Before dinner we met the other assistants (Italian and Austrian respectively) who have been very very nice with us and our children.
Excellent dinner and breakfast, prepared by Mr Scott with his staff! What else ... !
Considering that we are talking about a B&B, and not about a 4 stars hotel, the structure and services privided met our expectations and we recommend La Merveille. Suggestions to Mr Scott: give an award to your assistants ! We believe that they represent at least the 40% of your B&B value!

This is a great little b&b with a lovely host, Roger, who cannot do enough to make you feel welcome. We really appreciated his sense of humour and being from Northern Ireland, we had some friendly banter!! Roger’s staff consist of his niece (who we only met on our last day) and a troupe of young people who are volunteers. They all work hard to make guests feel comfortable and welcome. The bedroom was adequate and met our needs, but we weren’t in it too long as we spent almost all our time touring Normandy as there is so much to do! The breakfast is worthy of a four star hotel with eggs and bacon, croissants, cereal, fruit and yoghurt all available. Dinner is also offered at a very reasonable price, as long as it is booked in advance. We only used this service once during our stay as we wanted to explore other dining options in the local area but the food was excellent and well worth a try. Thank you to Mathilde for making me a delicious lactose-free meal! The garden at La Merveille is lovely and peaceful and we enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine there in the evening with the goats, chickens and dog!
All in all, this is a wee gem of a place and I would recommend it as a great base to explore all the wonderful sights of Normandy. Thanks Roger et al!
Stayed here last night for the first time, for one night only with my son, and I was more than happy with everything that we received from La Merville. Roger, the owner, and his staff were great and attentive. We had a clean and warm ensuite room, with comfy beds, tea or coffee and wine in the room, breakfast was superb and served very quickly and we had a wide chioce to choose from. Overall this was an ideal place to stay for us, its great for anyone visiting St Malo an.d the surrounding area, and very good value compared to other establishments in the area. I will be back again, without doubt.
