I had reason to visit Shanghai for business and a 5 night stay recently and was recommended the Marriott Shanghai Central by a colleague as it's close enough to our office to walk.
I arrived weary after 11 hour flight that saw me leave the UK at 21:00 on Saturday and arrive at hotel at 21:00 Sunday (the joys of time difference).
The journey from Pudong airport took around 45 minutes (relatively little traffic - took an hour on way back) and cost around £30 / $40.
I had an Executive room which was located on 28th floor, which apparently offered nicer views; the views were of buildings, but it is central Shanghai so what can you expect and at 28 floors it was very quiet.
The Executive room gave me access to the Executive lounge which serves breakfast, canapes and drinks. I only used it for breakfast, which was acceptable if not brilliant, I would say B rating.
The gym was well equipped for a hotel and there is a pool, so you can get some exercise in which always helps.
The room was great, spacious and well equipped. Asians seem to like a shower with a view over the bedroom, but as I was alone that was perfectly acceptable. The TV had some English-speaking channels, but I didn't watch the TV. There is free wi-fi which works to expected Chinese standards, i.e. there are times when it just doesn't work.
I hate in the Mo-Mo restaurant once and had room service also; the choice wasn't huge, but what I had was tasty and efficiently served (both in restaurant and room).
Overall, I would recommend this hotel and as comfortable place to stay.
Room Tip: Exec rooms are a good choice if you can afford the slightly higher rate
