Room review highlights
We stayed here 5 night in the bungalow room. It was really nice, comfortable and clean, including an hammock on the sea view....
Just what you would imagine when you book a guest room over the ocean with shared space w dive shop! There is a lot of bustle...
... thus it will be loud as well sometimes when you're in your room. And as happens in many places in Central America, sometimes...

Just what you would imagine when you book a guest room over the ocean with shared space w dive shop! There is a lot of bustle but all good vibes, staff is lovely, hammocks at end of dock are magical.
Added bonus - - microecosystem on site with indigenous red frogs. A big albino bunny, ,Lucky the guard dog and Chris himself round out the crazy group that will host you!
Understand that this is a rustic town in a pretty remote place and set your expectations accordingly!!

Tio toms guesthouse is a nice place and offers some of the best food of the region. But I can see how some travelers may give it bad reviews if they're not used to Panamanian life and may suffer a bit of a culture shock. Things are a bit slower on islands and on top of that on islands in the Caribbean so yes, you may have to wait a bit for your dinner but the wait is worth while. What are you rushed for anyway while on holiday? Enjoy the deck with hammocks or play a little bit with Lucky, the awesome and friendly dog of the owner.

The people on the island are loud and thus it will be loud as well sometimes when you're in your room. And as happens in many places in Central America, sometimes the municipal water runs out. But there is a backup tank. And yes sometimes that may run out as well.

The staff is friendly but don't expect American fake over the top friendliness. It's the true local experience. If you don't stay at Tio toms make sure you at least go have some food there. Plates are huge and quality of food is great. From 8 restaurants we went to his is in the top 2.

The place is conveniently located close to one of the nicer bars of bastimentos, and right across a store. Also next to the dock so you can always quickly find a water taxi.

After booking confirmation and multiple emails with Tom I arrived, but no Tom, no reservation, no room for me, no help, they just rudely said to leave. I hung around for Tom, and looked around the area, and saw you can easily do better. The rude staff had no clue, and no interest......seems more of a restaurant anyway, and if you like drinking beer and watching football in the afternoon, maybe come for that. But to stay? Well, good luck to you. BTW, Tom never returned any of my messages when I was desperately trying to sort it out.

When we arrived we got an upgrade to the Bungalow, which has not just an own double hammock but also a beautiful view. The room itself was comfy and clean.
Breakfast was not included but very delicious, (we were in need of good coffee after being kept awake by the neighbor's rooster) as well as the "Family Dinner" for 8$.
The owner is very friendly and helpful, you feel at home. And there is a white bunny called Bonita!
