I am sure this boutique hotel is mostly perfect, with wonderful, modern and comfortable rooms - the photo's on TA attest to it. That is why I got my travel agent to change hotels and pay extra to book a standard room at the Alexander Square Boutique Hotel.
When we got there, the receptionist told us that we were “upgraded” to apartment 601 ! Excited we got in the lift, which took us up to the 3rd floor, then we walked, basically exiting the hotel through heavy security door and climbed 6 X sets of 10 stairs = 60 stairs in a dilapidated, filthy staircase - try doing that with 4 pieces of heavy luggage !
I went back down and asked for a normal standard room, but was informed that they were fully booked and that's all they had available. So they stuck us in the attic !! When coming back down, the heavy security door can only be opened with a 4-digit code - if the building's on fire and you forget the code, you'll burn to death !
Our apartment 601 was OK, a modern small room, an anteroom with another single bed, a sitting area with small kitchen & TV and a small modern bathroom. Coming back to the room after dinner at night, we found the grubby staircase dark with only 1 light.
Breakfast is downstairs in a fairly drab cellar ; a small buffet, limited choice of 1 bottled juice, a Nescafe coffee machine, bad pastries, no eggs on order – rather non-descript, substandard.
Clearly, we were cheated. They overbooked their "normal" rooms and relegated us to the 6th floor. Totally unacceptable and I want my money back.
