Maybe it depends on which bungalow: 9 was nice, at far and quiet edge of the property. Chair to sit in privacy on bungalow porch. Compact interior of room was not cramped, two screened windows for cross-ventilation, plus AC and mosquito net (which was not needed), TV, refrigerator, comfortable mattress and bedding. Good-sized bathroom, good shower, but definitely could have used a throrough scubbing. Impression at check-in was that all rooms were (in some unspecified way) not equal. Adequate breakfast included. Wifi worked. The pool, bar, resto, et.al. across from reception was closed with no word if it’s going to be part of the hotel again. In lieu of this, the Sunugal issues guests a day pass to a very nice pool across the street and fronting the beach (such as it is). Definitely an alternative to more traditional hotel setup and nice if you prefer traquility, quiet, and privacy. Closure of the old airport might affect business here though and willingness of ownership to invest in the property.
My "Ecoroom" was a stand alone bungalo. Shower and AC did not work. No fan, mosquito net no very effective, because mosquitoes were inside the net. No soap, no toilet paper. Nice breakfast. Ohters in my group had better experiences ,pelicans at the nearby beach, etc. Internet worked!
The staff here are great and can't do enough to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. I ate at the onsite restaurant Charly's where the food choice was good for dinner - I ate Mexican dishes both nights. The room is basic, but if your just looking a place to rest your head at night then this is a good spot in a central location close to shops. I felt safe whilst staying here. You can hear the music from Charlys if your room is close to it, which wasn't an issue for me coming from a noisy household.
Hotel Sunugal offers small bungalows that are clean and comfortable. If it is your first time in West Africa and you are a Westerner, just keep in mind things will be a little different...but this is a place that westerners will find comfort and ease. The bungalows are clean and have mosquito nets. There is a clean bathroom in the room. The plumbing may be temperamental but it is a luxury to have that here. The location is very convenient to the airport and restaurants. The hotel restaurant serves a delicious breakfast. Finally the hotel manager and staff are very helpful.
I was warmed welcome! As I was travelling by myself I asked the hotel if they could pick me up at the airport. They were waiting for me even I had one hour delay.
Then they came with me to my bedroom were I had a nice welcoming gift.
I enjoyed the Charly's Bar were I had great time, I could meet many different people. The service was really good and very friendly. The Poulet Yassa is delicious there!
The next day I went to Bandia they booked my Car and the visit for me as I didn't want to take care of it.
Then the day after I could visit the very famous Market in Dakar, they booked again car for me and As I wanted to bring many things to London they were kind enough to ask someone to come with me.
The Best of my trip was Goree Island, They booked my car, and they gave me some tips about what to visit, and where to eat.
I asked as well a private Yoga Session that was an amazing experience as the lady was english, german and japanese speaker. They said that it was only for certain period but I was amazed by their kindness. The lady they know was in Dakar this period of time.
I still had a lot of Francs CFA my last day, they exchanged very kindly last minutes for Euros. They ask a cab for me until the airport the the gentleman negotiate for me the cab.
I can easily recommend that place, I felt safe. Every time I needed something they were always very helpful and welcoming which in London is sometimes difficult to get.
They show me their private beach with swimming pool on the opposite side of the street. The American Director came with me until the place to introduce myself to the security. She was amazing. I could enjoy nice cocktail with calm and zen time.
thank you to all the team. I will organise something with friends next time for sure.
