I suppose it is not quite accurate to be reviewing only Ginger Rooms but this is what I booked. We booked two rooms for two nights in October 2014 for the England match in June. This was before the match venue was even announced. On arrival we were told there was a problem and that they only had one room available. We were shown this - it was already 4pm so check in time had already been and gone. It was one of the smallest rooms I have ever seen but was clean and did have air-con so this was acceptable. However we were then told the others could have another room higher up for that night only and "if the people turned up" the next night they would have to rethink the situation. What we didn't know at the time was that the hostel upstairs was 2-star whereas Ginger a Rooms with the description and photos we had booked is 3-star. The room was slightly larger but most importantly had no air con. On the second night I was told to move all my things from Ginger Rooms to this room in essentially a different hostel and a spare bed was made up. I think that in this day and age this is completely unacceptable. We were given a slight discount but that wasn't the point - we would rather have paid for what we rightfully booked. I also don't understand at all why it had to be our problem and not the people who arrived on the second night's problem.
So I originally booked in their higher end Ginger Rooms listing and loved it! Clean, newly renovated and comfortable. When I asked to extend a few more nights they offered me Room #5 in what they now call Viga Hostel rooms. What a disaster! First, the toilet seat is half broken due to the fact that the flush is located almost at the ceiling and requires you to stand on top of the toilet seat to flush! My 8 year old fell and injured herself trying to flush the toilet unassisted, what the hell???? Shower head is broken and nonfunctional, no rug for the shower either. Lastly, the rooms walls are paper thin, super loud can hear people in adjacent rooms at and outside of hotel. Only reason I didn't give 1 star is because the ladies at the desk were so kind. So very disappointed.
1. Hostel canceled my reservation: the credit card was not enough money (although conditions on booking.com - reservation is free) and different hostel Alibi in Piran hadn't problems with the same credit card.
2. My check-in was almost night and I had only cash - 100 euros, I offered to leave them until the morning, and then change, but I have been denied registration. I had to go to the shop.
3. In the bahtroom a strong smell of damp, the room was very cold, sash windows (old age) isn't closed.
We needed smth cheap and close to centre and train station.we got it,but funny thing is that we stayed for the same money at three star hotel with breakfast in Lido de Venice.all negative references are right.besides door in shower cabin was broken.and water was not hot enough.we stayed also on 2nd floor and heard every sound in building.but there were some things we liked - smily receptionists, kitchen rather well equipped and big living room on 2nd floor.
We had booked a room at Alibi hostel (which hasn't got great reviews) but got an email two days before getting there saying it was being renovated so our booking had been transfered to Alibi M14. (good thing we had the wifi to check our emails while away..)
It's half way between the train station and the old town so great location; they had changed our double room & shared bathroom to double room & private bathroom which was a good surprise but it was noisy - people talking in the corridor, door bell, phone ringing and our door was right opposite to the tiny laundry room so we heard the washing machine all night too. It looked clean but I think we might have been bitten during the night.
Other than that it was ok for the night. There's a 20€ deposit for the room key but you can give them your passport instead.
