There were eight in our group, six divers and two snorkelers. We were picked up on time at our hotel in Alatou in a large air-conditioned van. The ride was an hour and a half and then a 30 minute boat ride to the resort. We were greeted enthusiastically by the staff and provided with cool towels and coconut drinks. The check-in process went very smoothly and the resort staff were very friendly and helpful.

Tawali Resort is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed! It’s nestled in the jungle and has covered walkways connecting the lobby area/large deck with the rooms, dive shop and pool. There are a lot of steps and it can be quite slippery when raining. This is not a place for someone who has mobility issues. The resort is decorated with handcrafted wood carvings and other beautiful artwork. Tawali Resort is not a fancy place but was designed with comfort in mind.

The deluxe rooms are huge, have two queens, a small refrigerator and a beautiful deck overlooking a pretty bay. There was also AC and a ceiling fan. We stayed in room one, which was the closest to the lobby, eating area/bar. The larger the numbers, the further out the rooms are. I’d also like to mention that the entire place is immaculate.

All meals are served buffet style with many choices, including fish, chicken pork or beef. There was usually a local vegetable side dish. First, soup was served which was always fantastic. After dinner the desert of the night was served. We were there a week and each day the choices were different; there was always some sort of cabbage salad and fruit, mostly pineapple, papaya and grape fruit. Of course, the service was excellent!

The front desk staff were always very attentive and accommodating, calling me by my first name from day one. We were particularly fond of Chris and Aileen who were our bartenders.

Alfred was the dive shop coordinator and made sure that all our diving needs were met. He was also our guide on many of the dives. I would also like to mention our other excellent guides, Jonah, Bale, and Albert, always finding and pointing out the most unusual, tiny little creatures. Thank you to Captain Francis, Elizah (engineer) and our boat hostess, Mirrel for a great experience. I loved the dive boat, Explorer, because it was huge, well-maintained and had a regular flushing toilet. A nice hot lunch was served on the days we went out to the further dive sites. There are also small boats if you want to separate from the group, and the “team” was also very good at coordinating when everyone wanted to go to different sites.

Overall, Tawali Resort provided our group with an exceptional vacation experience. You will have to see for yourself what a gorgeous property it is and how lovely the staff are. Thank you Tawali Resort!

After years of nagging by friends I finally took a group to Tawali. What a surprise, great big rooms and friendly staff. The macro diving was very good, the Guides exceptionally talented at finding the smallest pygmy seahorses around.Look out into the blue, I saw Mobulas, Mantas and Sharks - Hammerheads and Whalers. Be prepared to get fit! The dive shop is 400 paces away from the main building, the pool 350 and the dive boat 250 this up and down stairs and ramps, but don't worry the staff carry your luggage and gear for you.The views are magnificent from most of the rooms but rooms 1-8 offer the best.

It was an absolute pleasure having your group at the Resort. We agree with you, our dive guides are amazing. It is great to hear that you were able to experience such a wide variety of marine species on your dive. We look forward to having you back one day.

Very Nice resort with great snorkeling right in front of the swimming pool, the tour to the coral garden is amazing! Skull caves were very interesting, restaurant serves very good food,
Nice clean rooms with good bedding, and all the necessary things.
The road from the airport is brand new so a easy drive to the resort!
And at least very friendly people!! The only thing I would recommend is to book thruh booking.com, room with full board, I paid way to much! If you book only the room , you have to pay for the food and that’s really too expensive!

My friend and I spent 3 nights in Bungalow #1 last week. The room was lovely and big, we each had a double bed, and the view from the balcony was quite incredible. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Chef cooked up brilliant meals each day, my only complaint would be that the serving sizes were too big for me, so there was wastage.

Yoshi was my diving instructor/buddy, we did a skills refresh in the pool before heading out on the house reef which was really impressive. Loads of different fish etc, great visibility. We also snorkeled at Coral Garden which was wonderful. The whole dive crew were fantastic resources, and their knowledge of the local indigenous species was great.

We felt off the grid, even though there's free wifi (not in-room) and cable tv, and were completely relaxed by the time we left. Can't recommend Tawali highly enough!

Tawali is incredible. We took our three year old son and almost five year old daughter. We flew direct from Hong Kong and connected to Alotau.
The flight from POM to Gurney is about 50 mins. You will then transfer via bus for about 1.5 hours and then an easy 15 minute boat transfer. You will know you are in paradise when if lucky, the pod of dolphins will greet you on your transfer to the resort.
The house reef at Tawali is incredible for both diving and snorkeling. I recommend entering from the main resort jetty rather than the dive shop pier. It will have you on the reef straight away.
We also did a 530 pm sunset dive in to a night dive to see the mandarin fish. There is about a dozen of them and it is not to be missed. The night dive was wonderful and we finished at the dive shop pier.
The pool at the resort is large and our three year old could stand in the shallow end. The pool also features a baby pool area for even the youngest swimmer. The pool is large and has plenty of room for everyone.
There is not much beach at Tawali but if you are looking for powder white sand take a day trip to Boi Boi Island. Pack and lunch and make a day of it. About a 1 hour boat transfer. Good snorkeling and diving there as well.
The diving is extraordinary here. I recommend Deacon's Reef and the Lawadi Beach muck dive. I dove them both twice. Amazing. We saw pygmy seahorse, juvenile clown frog fish, tons of nudibranches, sea turtle, flying gurnard, signal goby, fire goby, moray eel, octopus, smashing mantis shrimp to name a few.
Ask for Alfred the divemaster while there. He is the best.
This is not a foodie destination but they work hard in the kitchen. Food is served at 7 pm and is buffet style. We ate a lot of lamb and chicken at the beginning but the variety picked up once the seafood shipment arrived. Lots of prawn and lobster. Gorgeous. We were also just coming in to mango season and it is to die for.
We stayed at the 2 bedroom ocean villa. The beds were comfortable, the air con worked and the water pressure in thew showers was strong and hot. The balcony at the ocean villa has the most amazing view and we were very comfortable there.
They supply mozzie spray but I recommend taking some very strong deet spray as well. Especially for the jungle tours.
We really enjoyed the skull cave tour along with a visit to the local school. Take supplies to donate to the children (about 100) there if you can. We took crayons, modeling clay, paper, pens, jump ropes etc.
We also woke up at 4 am one morning to see the birds of paradise. Take your strongest deet spray for the mozzies and your sens of adventure and go see the birds. This is truly amazing. Gilbert is the best guide and he will get you there safe and sound. I can't recommend this enough.
Mark is there working on the boats and he has a plethora of knowledge for the region and things to do locally. Look for him.
Archie was even able to let the kiddos see a Cuscus. There were amazed.
The kids also liked the snakes, geckos, praying mantis and all of the other nature surrounding them.
Tawali is a special place if you can find the time to get there. Paradise lost!
