Maïa, 5 Star Harmony
Because of Covid, our Cour des Loges in Lyons was closed... we just discovered this Haven of Peace, real 5 star hotel, Villa Maïa.
Unique style combining modernity and tradition: an artistic decoration (architect of YSL’s house) and Carara marbles or local stones.
Top-notch service with great kindness 24/7. François, our dear « clés d’or » Concierge, is a masterpiece in this new peaceful hotel. For discovering the history of the City or a new shop. And he likes our dogs and vice versa.
The Bartender is perfect with delicious cocktails until midnight and the home Pouilly Fuissé for a wonderful time with magnificent view of the city lights. She always smiles despite the mask.
The inside breakfast at the table is elegant as well as all the provided services.
Efficient massage for my spouse and elegant wide indoor pool with spa. One of the best indoor pool: perfect for swimming or reading.
Our room was really wide with a beautiful terrace with city view. A Roman ceramics just adds the cultural touch to this elegant interior. Harmony between the history of the city and all the modern functionalities (efficient wifi, many electrical & USB outlets, TV entertainment worthy of a business class, ...).
The Bistrot has been our first restaurant, with good price-quality ratio as well as the whole Villa Maia.
Next time we will book the gastronomic restaurant to complete such a high quality stay.
And many other details which are so important... to discover by yourself.
Approved by Lilly & Penelope (our dogs).
Thsi is an excellent hotel period.
of course I will say more..
Rooms are well equipped and comfy, excellent mattresses, beautiful marbles bathrooms.
Very nice indoor swimming pool, sauna and hammam closed for Covid reason. Large pool water felt cold despite being obviously heated up.. probably due to the size of it and the room too.
Place everywhere is absilutely spotless, one could eat onthe floor... kudos to HK.
Main positive aspect fo the place is the staff.. absolutely perfect from Bar to Front desk, bellman services to room service ... everywhere. They are attentive, smiling very well mannered without any inch of snobism which is sometimes the default in 5 stars.
The only let down for us was the room service, more precisely the food served. Apparently the hotel does not have a cook after a certain time (which happens a lot in hotels but should not in this category), the food served is in glass recipients that obviously the floor person heats in an oven or some microwave of some sort... taste was plain barely good, so despite a beautiful table set up the result is poor for a category like this.
Overall a beautiful hotel weel placed in his category and walking disctance from the Roman Arena of Lyon.
My sister and I are just heading home following a short break from visiting family locally, ending our trip at this truly splendid hotel perched on the hill tops overlooking the old town of Lyon below with the city beyond, what amazing views.
From the moment we arrived to the time we left I can honestly say that all the staff were truly exceptionally polite, attentive and engaging not to mention being totally professionally throughout in their immaculate uniforms.
Clearly this is a very high end hotel, so you would expect such service, however many similar establishments I’ve stayed in have missed this mark. These folk though truly lived up to the 5 star billing as did the restaurant we ate in, the smaller of the two on site, a high end brasserie style you could say, where we enjoyed a lovely set menu at a reasonable price in such a location in my opinion. Excellent service once again.
I had a garden view room (411) on the 4th floor, it was perfect, something of a modern spin on an Art Deco theme in some senses perhaps, I loved it. All soft drinks in the mini bar were free, the bathroom wonderful, including lovely smelling toiletries too. My only minuscule issue was there were only branded pencils in my room with the stationary but no pen oddly, I may have missed it!
I would highly recommend a stay here, you have to indulge yourself once in a while. Incidentally my sister had a 4th floor suite overlooking the city with a fantastic views!
Thanks to all the staff at this beautiful hotel for such a great stay.
We needed to extend our trip by an additional night, so when we checked in the hotel upgraded us to a beautiful suite with a gorgeous view of Lyon. We could even see the snow covered Alps many miles away. We had a beautiful terrace as well. The European breakfast is
Lovely large room. Have to say the concierge was absolutely exceptional and unbelievably helpful. Breakfast was also good - catering to our personal requests. Highly recommend (though the 'garden view' was more of an overgrown wilderness it has to be said!). Had lunch at Tetedoie - superb! Though do take a cardigan as it was rather chilly with the air conditioning on full blast ( I am a woose and need a minimum temperature of about 24oC!). Lovely views of the city of Lyon.
