The nearest train station was in a rough neighborhood. I feared for our safety and was afraid we would be robbed.
We told our host we would arrive at around 7-8am but he did not meet us.
The toilet looked like it was from the seventies, all beat up and not cleaned since then. A giant resident dirty drain fly flew into our faces when we entered the bathroom. We were surprised at how large it had grown. It was much bigger than our collection in our bathroom although we live in the tropics, next to forests.
The shower was binary, it was either skin-melting hot or ice-cold. We were lucky to stay only two nights as we would not shower again. The hot water in the sink lasted for seconds before it was only cold water left. The toilet couldn't flush due to the owners trying to save water so we had to fill it up with water from the shower using a heavily scratched, cooking pot that found in the kitchen.
The electric stoves were broken and malfunctioning. They light up only when you put it to high heat levels of 7-9. 1-6 did not work. When the stoves lit up, it was for a couple of seconds and it resembled twinkling Christmas lights. It was only because we had a cast iron pot with us that we were able to cook.
The Wi-Fi did not work at all. The host was too cheap to buy routers. Whenever you connected to any one of the Wi-Fi, networks, the signal would drop to zero.
There was no air conditioning so we had to open the windows which was located next to the main road so it was noisy, smelling of people smoking on the streets and walking by. In the night, there were airplanes flying over so closely even till 3 and 4am, we had no sleep at all on the first night.
Essentially we paid 300 pounds for 2 nights at London prices for what was in reality a Manchester bedsit.
The next morning at 6am, we heard Mark who owned the place, smoking, cursing and swearing at me right right outside our room. He said if "The f*cking c*nt wasn't happy, she could leave" But the crook had taken our money, so we couldn't leave.
We left the next day early in the morning. It was the best thing! It felt like being freed from jail.
