A group of 21 friends descended on Chalet Lingayoni and took over the chalet for a week in the beginning of Jan 2018 for a skiing holiday, all adults but one teenager.
The chalet looked lovely, clean and ready to be lived. Its located quite a bit lower down in valley, approx 30 min up hill walk to the main Oz en Osains ski lift. Luckily the chalet offered free shuttles for the whole group everyday, which was a bit of life saver.
Throughout the week we had 3 staff, the manager sorted us during the day, Karen (hostess) and Nicolas (chef) sorted the evening.
Karen and Nicolas were amazing and worked their socks off to accommodate our needs. Every evening we would have cake, tea\coffee waiting for when we got back from skiing, then a meat and cheese board before a 3 course meal for 21 people in a timely manner, seriously impressive as it was only the 2 of them, plus the food was more than satisfactory.
The manager did a good job in the morning sorting out breakfast and was accommodating yet again. However, he lacked critical insight into the local area and skiing arrangements, which would have been handy. This was due to him being new to the area. Credit to him he was ready to shuttle us to the ski lifts after breakfast every morning and pick us up once we were done with a simple phone call to his personal phone.
All 3 staff were very pleasant but it was evident to see that the manager fell short of a few things. Our rooms didn't really get cleaned so no change of towels (had to find them ourselves), the jacuzzi wasn't properly maintained so we only had one day use and we didn't receive our meat board and cheese on Karen/Nicolas day off which we should have received. I can understand that it is a lot for one person to do, as other chalets have at least 2 staff to tidy rooms, but we all felt there was a bit of laziness in his work.
With the jacuzzi being out of action we turned to the sauna, however this also proved to also be a problem as it did not warm up past 50 degrees C. A cold breeze flowed from the floor and we had to cover the benches with towels and continually pour water on the stones get some heat, even then it just wasn't great. The pebbled shower next to the sauna was the best thing about the sauna room.
For an extra £50 each we received unlimited chosen wine and beer 24/7. This was massive plus for us as a group.
Overall it was a really good week, despite the first few days of bad weather and the negatives I have already talked about I would recommend staying here. The skiing is brilliant with a wide variety of runs. Definitely buy passes for the whole domain, Alp d'uez is beautiful. Beautiful views when skiing and from the chalet itself. Really easy arrangement with the ski equipment. We left our skis at the ski shop once we skied back and then called the chalet staff to come pick is up. No hauling your skis back to the chalet.
Ski pass is a bit pricey for 6 days at 267 euros but I think that is standard. Not many restaurants/bars near by so expect to pay a bit for taxi to go to Alp d'uez for some night life or alternatively plug in and play music in the chalet, which is what we did.
If the jacuzzi was operational, sauna worked properly and our rooms/towels replenished this would be a 5 stars. This could have easily been reached.
Thanks for a great week anyway.
The room was perfect, really welcoming and kinda typical. Great service, Jerry and Guillaume will look to help you out enjoy your holiday, Yana is an incredible chef. The breakfast was complete and the 3 services diners were always so different and so exquis...
We could not expect more for this relaxing week. Our heads were only focus on the fun...
Thanks a lot to all of you !
We were looking for accommodation for a short ski break for our family of 4 with two teenage daughters and were offered the Cascade apartment by Richard (the owner I believe). He sent us detailed information, sorted out our airport transfer and also our equipment hire. Everything went like clockwork so thank you Richard!! Our chalet hosts, Robert and Annemiek, were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Our apartment was spacious and clean with plenty of facilities. Comfy beds, nice shower and the girls loved their bed on the mezzanine floor!! Food was plentiful and delicious. Some of the dishes were probably not suited to the masses, including teenagers (eg steak tartare) but Robert was always willing to make an alternative dish if requested. The Happy Hour wine evenings were great and good for meeting all the other chalet guests. Loved the sauna and large walk in shower. Daughters made full use of the outdoor hot tub which was perfect after a days skiing and they loved the games room and separate areas they were able to use with other teenagers they met there. The minibus service was superb and chalet staff were always available to drop off and pick up on receipt of a phone call - incredibly convenient. The ski hire shop they use (2G Sports) was so helpful and their staff always smiling. Our daughter needed to change her boots and they really put themselves out to satisfy their customers. We loved Antoine!!!!! They also look after equipment and keep your boots warm for the following day - what service!
We had a fantastic time at Chalet Lingayoni and would highly recommend staying there - didn't want to come home!!
A big thank you to all the staff for a super time - would love to come again sometime!
This was our first stay at this chalet and we were very impressed. We particularly liked the fact that we had our own individual apartment. This gave us lots of private space with two bedrooms, living area with a wood burner that we used each evening and a small kitchen but we also had full access to the rest of the fabulous chalet where all of our meals were served. The food was very good , the team were very happy to accommodate any dietary requirements and the whims of our picky children! We found the house wines to be of very good quality and value. The happy hour twice a week was a great touch too. Our girls enjoyed the hot tub which was available all week (even in the rain). They also loved the games area and made full use of the Wii and table football. The shuttle to the lifts took 4 minutes and was available each time we called without any issues at all. Overall a fabulous holiday , very good value with lots of thoughtful touches which made the stay very special .Thank you! We hope to return ,
A fantastic chalet! We stayed for a week with our family (2 adults and 2 kids) and another couple. We had the loft and it was great- lots of windows and a balcony overlooking the Alps. It was very hot at the beginning of the week- low to mid 90s- and the chalet has no A/C, but we left all of the windows open and it was comfortable. We slept with all the windows open and it almost felt like a treehouse - beautiful views in every direction, very quiet, cool breeze in the evenings.
The bedrooms are quite small - just room for the bed and not much more. And the bedrooms , bathroom and kitchen are all lower than the main room- second had 3 steps down into those rooms. It wasn't an issue for us, but did require extra attention at night.
We opted for the breakfast and dinner plan and were very glad we did. It was so nice to have our meals all prepared and on site. We would go out riding or exploring during the day and then returned to the chalet to rest a bit, and then down for dinner at 8. The food was outstanding- fresh ingredients and creative dishes. We had salmon, pasta with shrimp, pork chops, sausage and baked potato, duck.. Each dinner had a starter, main course, and dessert (vanilla ice cream with olive oil and salt was a favorite, as was a fruit salad with lemon broth and mint). Breakfasts were also great- breads, cheese , yogurt, cereal, etc every day and various eggs and bacon/sausages in addition .
The staff was very nice- we enjoyed talking to Annamieke and Robert. Also, Richard was very helpful prior to our arrival - responding to my many many questions quickly and thoroughly via email. There was a problem with the hot water during our stay and they handled the issue very professionally.
We came to watch the Tour de France and the location of the chalet was ideal. Stage 18 went by at the bottom of our hill, so it was a very quick drive down and we easily found a spot to watch. For Stage 20, we went to the top of Alpe d'huez, via the gondolas at the top of Oz. Again, very easy to access. We arrived at the finish line around noon, and although there were many many people, we were able to find a great spot to watch.
The location of the chalet was also great for cycling. We rode Alpe d'huez and Col de la Croix de Fer. There were cyclists everywhere! The chalet is about 5km up the ascent to Oz, so a bit of a grind at the end of a long ride, but it was ok. And we also just threw our bikes into the back of our rental and started one day in Allemont. There is a large outdoor pool in Allemont- great for swimming laps and also for kids to cool off. (Note that boys/men need speedos or jammer type suits - loose board type swim shorts were prohibited.)
There was also great hiking right from the chalet. The trail up to Oz resort was about a 15-20 minute hike uphill, through beautiful forest. And there seemed to be many trails nearby for longer hikes. Oz resort was pretty small/quiet given it was summer- but there's a small grocery store, a few bars/restaurants, a small indoor pool, tennis courts, etc. An other family staying at the chalet recommended the outdoor ropes/adventure course - their kids spent full day there while the parents cycled.
The wifi was good, loft had nice TV and there was even a Wii game system in the lobby, which my son appreciated. So many options for everyone.
In short, we had a fantastic week and would love to return.
