My third time to visit. An exceptionally relaxing and renewing destination. The jungle tone is maintained. The Lake of Seven Colours is a beautiful limestone, underground, fed lake that is wonderful to be on, in or viewing. Mis Casas is clean, well appointed with all utensils for cooking and self sufficiency. Katarina is instructive and able to be helpful or part of the background. She is knowledgeable about the ecological area and the local tourist attractions. A real bonus is the common area palapa which serves as a lakeside kitchen, a dining room seating up to 15 and a lounge. It is equipped with a nature library and games for the whole family. Mis Casas is all around wonderful with the opportunity to customize your jungle experience. I’ll be back again!
My partner and I stayed here about a month ago to be close to the Mayan ruins at Chacchoben. It's a beautiful location right on the lake with amazing clear water. We couldn't resist a swim in the morning before heading out to Chacchoben! Katarina (Kathryn) is very welcoming and friendly and she keeps a clean and well maintained property. Thanks to a cancellation she upgraded us to a room with a view of the lake at no additional charge. We enjoyed chatting with her over tea in the morning and it brought a friendly, family feel to our stay. The road to the property is rough but well signed, so just keep going. Definitely on our list to stay again!
Beautiful settings and spacious suites in the middle of the jungle... right in front of the Bacalar lagoon in a very private area far from the noise and the tourism of the town but close enough to make the trip to buy goods and groceries... if you are looking for calm and tranquility, this is this is the place... free use of kayaks included... very small, just tree or four suites, to preserve privacy...
Our trip to Mis Casas was incredible. To begin with Kim picked us up from Pedro A Santos and greeted us with a couple of beers. As soon as we got to her home we felt the warmth and magic of the place. The amount of time and effort she has put into constructing Mis Casas is remarkable. We loved the palapa where we cooked, played cards and listened to music feeling very at home. There was a canoe available which we spent the afternoon rowing on the lake. Our own bedroom was fully equipped with a kitchen and en suite but we chose to cook in the palapa. The bedroom could have done with a fan as it was very hot at night. The location is amazing, as close to the lake as you can get! However this means Mis Casas is a 10minute drive from the local store that does not stock much, and a 30 minute drive from Bacalar, so be sure to bring food!
Couldn't thank Kim enough for her wonderful hospitality, she even invited us to watch the football and drink margaritas with her! Kim, we wish we could have stayed longer and we hope to come back some time soon!
Thanks again, Cami and Michael
We stayed for three nights at Mis Casas on Lake Bacalar. It is located right on the lake, and about 3 miles down a dirt road. The road was easily travelled with a rental car, just go slow and enjoy the jungle. We got a great reception by Kim who showed us around and took us to our room. The room was great, comfortable bed, nicely furnished, with a balcony you can sit on and enjoy the surroundings. There is a large, screened-in palapa with a fridge, tables and chairs, loads of guide books, and a full kitchen we could use. It was a really fun place to stay, Kim and Katherine were wonderful and generous hosts. The lake was great for a swim, a canoe ride, or just sitting on the dock to watch the sunrise over the water. You can canoe to the restaurant up the lake (Kim and Katherine will let you know when they would be open), stock up on supplies at a small town on the highway, or in Bacalar, about a 15 minute drive away. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. Thank you, Kim and Katherine, for such a great stay.
