We had planned to visit Santiago de Compostela but when we got to the hotel we decided to stay put.
The hotel, nestled atop a hill with forests all around and a river below, has a stunning location.
An old property with many original features including the iconic Galician grain store with a cross on the roof.
We were able to relax by the pool and in the sauna.
Run by a father and daughter duo, the food is excellent. He prepares the savoury dishes, and she the sweet. We were brought dishes. They have their own Bachao wine label, the Albarino was delicious.
The rooms were big and comfy with antique paintings and furniture.
What a beautiful and secluded guesthouse!
Owner and his family was very kind and helpful providing input for trips.
Dinner and breakfast is absolutely a must during stay at Casa Grande Do Bachao.
As the owner likes dog, they’re happily running around, none the less they are all kind and avoided access at pool area and the restaurant ect.
Can highly recommend if you like days off in a calm setting!
There is so much that is positive about this delightful and very different hotel. It was a breath of fresh air to find hidden amongst the trees. It was wonderful to get away from the madness of cities that we had been staying in. I enjoyed the pool and my husband enjoyed the walks down to the river. The food on the Saturday night was excellent, full of flavour and the after dinner entertainment by the owner and chef was entertaining and informative. The breakfasts were also excellent.
BUT the room we were given - the downstairs room was completely airless- no ventilation at all, no windows. This is unacceptable - if we had stayed longer we would have complained.
What more can i say?? FANTASTIC!!!! Beautiful views. Outstanding hospitality. The couple who run the casa and restaurant are wonderful fun people who are very proud of the tranquil and exquisite environment they have created.
There is a pool with outdoor activities such as bicycle renting, activity organization (white water rafting) and fishing. They also arrange walking tours and guided tours to Santiago.
Regarding finding the hotel, we put the coordinates in our navigation system but there were plenty of signs to tell you that you were heading to the right place!
There is one fixed meal for dinner but it was fantastic!!!! They sincerely want you to enjoy!!!
We wanted to stay longer but they were fully booked. We also bought a gift certificate for our friends who we were visiting so they could enjoy this wonderful place as well!
Great hotel, full of character, wonderful staff and lovely quiet setting in the mountains. Do not follow sat nav though, sat nav seems to think there is another road to the hotel. Food is excellent (both breakfast and evening meals) but you need to tell them at breakfast if you intend to eat in the hotel that evening. Free and easy parking, we loved the honesty bar with pool table. The staff could not do enough to make our 6 night stay an absolute pleasure. Will love to go back again sometime.
