My husband and I recently had a fantastic stay at Kimamaya. The hotel is beautiful and luxurious but at the same time very relaxed. Management and staff are friendly and professional, always going out of their way to make sure that we were enjoying our stay. A special thanks to Peter and Morino for making our trip memorable and Kimamaya a place to which we will definitely return. We loved your restaurant recommendations and the various dining experiences that we were able to enjoy. From the hotel you can easily access Barn by Odin Restaurant which has great views and provides another excellent dining experience. We also enjoyed the spa and relaxation facilities available after a day out on the slopes. The cozy lounge downstairs provided a comfortable place to read and enjoy a glass of wine by the fire. Another great aspect is that there is a convientient dry room and ski storage facility within the hotel available to guests to store your equipment. The location of the hotel is perfect as it's within walking distance to the lifts. Kimamaya were however always available to drop off and pick up upon request. All round we had an incredible experience and would highly recommend Kimamaya.

Our family of three (two adults and one mid-teen) stayed in one of the loft rooms for 6 nights in December 2014. This is our first time staying at the Kimamaya - through a strong recommendation of a friend who also stayed at this boutique hotel. If we return to Niseko to ski, we will definitely come back.

Location - conveniently located within middle Hirafu, with a number of good & popular restaurants within comfortable walking distance in all but the most heaviest of snow storms. The shuttle bus service bringing you to the slopes of Hirafu and Hanazono stops right in front of the hotel - not that you'll need it, since the hotel driver or one of the hotel managers will happily transport you to the slopes - but it's reassuring to know it's there if you need it. It is also walking distance to a small onsen, although we didn't get to try it this time.

Ambience - we liked the small, warm and cosy setting of the hotel. The warm lighting and furniture in the living, dining and bar areas were great places for us to chill over wine after a day out skiing, meet fellow guests of the hotel and exchanging stories about the day, or having a simple meal bought from any of the near-by take-outs.

Rooms - we stayed in one of the loft rooms, and it had a comfortable queen-sized bed and two single futons in the loft. Even though there was an L-shaped sofa at the foot of the bed, there was still enough room to move around with the 2 extra large luggage, 1 large haversack & 3 cabin bags we had. Heating was more than adequate; in the room and in the toilet. In fact, our son was perspiring the first night when we put the heating on moderate.

Breakfast - this came with the room booking and is served at The Barn; the restaurant next door that is linked via an indoor passage so you're not exposed to the weather outside. It's also nice that the restaurant only serves hotel guest for breakfast; which means one can remain in PJs, if one were so inclined, and chatting with other guests just feels so natural. Breakfast is mostly continental with the french toast with apple compote, and croque-madame being two of our favourites.

Service & Amenities - service?...what's more to add?? Read the other posts and you get the idea! The personal touch, efficiency, thoughtfulness, assistance on queries, bookings etc... flawless. We were even invited to enjoy the wines produced by the owner of the hotel, who also shared the same passion in relating and connecting with their guests. In terms of amenities, the two bath rooms (one wooden and one stone) available for guests to book was something we looked forward to. We preferred the wooden one. We also pampered ourselves with two 90-min massage sessions with the on-site therapist. Note though, that there was only one therapist, so we didn't get to do it together. However, it was still well-worth the pampering.

Overall: We could reserve our compliments and avoid fighting with returning guests and others looking to book a room at what is becoming an increasingly popular property. But that would deny the well-deserved recognition of the efforts undertaken by both staff (Peter & Morino) and its' owner (Nicholas) in creating a positive experience for their guests. Secretly, we hope you gave up after reading this review halfway, and allow us to come back and enjoy the hassel-free experience all over again.

I stayed at Kimamaya on a powder skiing holiday with 5 guy friends and we had a fantastic time. One of our gang who is very well travelled and famously known to us as the most critical man in the world actually got frustrated because he couldn't find any faults with the chalet!

The chalet itself is very modern, clean and cosy and the lounge area is great for relaxing after a hard days skiing. The Barn bar and restaurant is connected to the hotel and great for drinks before you head out in the evening. There is a very reliable and free fast wifi service and there are also free Skype phones in every room.

Andrew our chalet host was very accommodating with requests to drive us up to the slopes (even though there are only a 10 minute walk away!).

If the owners want to take Kimamaya to the next level then they could think about having nicer bar snacks and hor to have with drinks in the evening. Otherwise this is an absolutely excellent and relaxing place to stay.

The wonderful and positive things which have been reviewed for Kimamaya are true, and much as I wish selfishly wish to keep this place a secret, I guess I should share it too like those before me who have led me to this lovely place with their reviews. We skied in Niseko for the first time in February 2016 and after much research decided to stay at Kimamaya. We are so glad we did, thanks to all the Tripadvisor reviews.

Location: perfect location, tucked away in a street just a short walk opposite of Seicomart, so very convenient, with restaurants lining the same street. The bus stop which go to different spots in Niseko, to Kutchan and Rusutsu are also just outside of Kimamaya.

Accommodation: Kimamaya is a home, a beautifully and proudly kept and maintained place, so pristinely clean, modern, yet warm and welcoming, we loved the in-doors no shoes policy which made absolute sense. Kimamaya is a place where the owner has spared no cost in making it truly comfortable, convenient and considerate, you see this in all the small details. Quality fittings, shower and toilet facilities, wonderful big beds, sheets, the dining room where you have breakfast is connected to the main building, so you don't have to brave the cold going for breakfast. Another example is the drying room for ski/boarding gear is nice and warm, and cleverly attached to it is a cooler annexure where you can collect your ski/boarding things and gear up without killing yourself in the heat of the drying room - very well thought, very clever. This cooler room conveniently leads outside whereby you pile into the very nice Kimamaya van which drops you off at the ski lifts each day and picks you up again - so you don't have to queue and jostle with the rest of the people in Niseko on the public buses. Having transportation to the ski lifts is a very essential service in Niseko, this itself sets Kimamaya apart, I hear friends staying elsewhere griping about this every single day.

Modern utilities - this is a place which has kept up with the times, all rooms have an Apple TV with Netflix, HBO, including a disc player for movies which they have a library of. Free wifi. There is also a kettle for hot drinks and pot noodle, the Japanese curry and cheese one is great for a cold night, there is also a mini fridge. We had a great movie night in the room - so many movies to choose from Apple TV! Should you want to venture out of your room, you can sit in the living room, have nice glass of wine, hot coffee or hot chocolate and read in front of the beautiful fire-place in relative solitude (there are only 9 rooms so you do not feel like the place is over crowded at any point in time).

Finally, we would like to say a very very big thank you to both Peter and Morino who together manage Kimamaya magnificently. They are the ace team! They make the place that much more personable and special, both Peter and Morino are always there for you, nothing is too much trouble, they book, plan and organise your needs and make it seem so effortless, they are really the best and nicest people, they personify Kimamaya. We will definitely return to stay in Kimamya on our next trip back to Niseko, we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Oh, we cannot forget Yoko, the best masseuse in Niseko, firm yet gentle, teasing out those knotted muscles after a hard day skiing. Thank you Peter, Morino, Yoko and all the staff in Kimamaya who work so discreetly and tirelessly to make our stay so comfortable and special at Kimamaya! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

kindest regards,
andrew & monica

This is our third visit, but with family. The team and place is still as charming as ever. Even though there are tons of other new places opening up, we still love the place for it caters to just that few couples/family. Our kids absolutely love the play room. We are pretty spoilt by the dry room that keeps our ski gear and clothes clean and dry every day. It is hard to stay elsewhere unless it comes with a perfect dry room, simple yet flavorful breakfast with good coffee, pick up service to ski lifts, loft unit and yes, this place comes with Netflix as well! It’s a hit with the kids and our folks!
