Essential Hong Kong

95%
Found this guide helpful

People often have a stopover in Hong Kong. What to do if you only have one day?Too long to just wait at the airport, too short to do anything interesting. Here is my suggestion, for those who are in Hong Kong for a very short period (one day) and still would like to experience what this city is and what ihas to offer, making your stop-over into a mini trip. Start in the morning at Kowloon's Star Ferry, take the ferry to central, from there take a ferry to Lamma Island. Spend a morning on Lamma hiking, visit one of the many empty beaches, have seafood for lunch before you take a ferry back; Once in Central walk thgrough this district to the Escalator, wander through SOHO, visit the Man Mo temple, walk to the Peak tram and visit the Peak. Grab a bite in one of the different restaurants and take the tram back to Central and have a drink in Lang Kwai Fong. Go back to Kowloon by ferry on time to see the light-show on the promenade; wander through Tsim Sha Tsui's Nathan Road till Temple Street and visit it's night market and walk up till you reach Mongkok's Ladies Night Market.

Xueyan D's City Tips

  • To Hong Kongers time is money, they like to walk fast, eat fast, talk fast. .
  • Impossible to get lost! Hong Kong, though it feels huge and is overcrowded, is still a relatively small city. At each crossing there are signposts tellinbg you where to go.
  • Hong Kong has an excellent underground system, but you will miss the city by travelling underground. Try to use the Ferry, the trams or just walk.

No trip to Hong Kong is complete with a trip to the Peak with the Peak Tram. The tram will take you through one of the most expensive living quarters on the planet, to a viewdeck with the most famous and spectacular views of Hong Kong. On the Peak there are coffee shops, restaurants etc to make the outing more relaxing. You can take a tram back down or even walk one of the several quiet routes downwards.
