Make it like an Athenian

94%
Found this guide helpful

Few people visiting Greece spend more than 3 days in Athens. They understandably prefer to visit more charming places (mostly summer resorts). However Athens can be still charming, and if you have some money and time to spend, it can be really entertaining, both in terms of culture and fun. This is just an indicative guide as to how you could get the best out of your time for this purpose.

chris_tzavaras's City Tips

  • Use Trip Advisor reviews for finding nice places to eat - avoid cheap local cuisine restaurants unless highly recommended.
  • Must Areas : Kolonaki and Syntagma for shopping, Plaka & Thission (old Athens) for strolling around and snacks, Vouliagmeni for summer-swims
  • Even if you are not fond of cultural sites, visit Acropolis (and the new Museum) and if you have more time on this, Cape Sounion Temple and the Archaeological Museum.
  • The Athens tube (Metro) is superb and modern (due to the Olympic Games of 2004) - and inexpensive. Use it . Avoid Buses. Taxis are just OK.
  • Stay downown, there are many options in the suburbs or just out of the main city center but I would advise that you stay within the greater Syntagma - Kolonaki - Ilissia area.
