I would plan on at least 2 hourss
In the winter only a couple hours. Lots of interesting things to see in the museum.
It depends on a lot of things - age of children, circus interest, time left on your schedule, weather - to name a few. But, being a circus fan, I can spend most of the day there. Summer would be a longer visit because there are no shows. The winter schedule would take about two hours for most people. It's a happy place and - I think - well worth the visit.
An average visit would take about 3 hours in my judgment, to take full advantage of what they have to offer. Frankly, 4 hours might be useful, if you have the time and are sufficiently interested. But if you have less time available, 2 hours might do the job, if you plan what you see and do there efficiently and move around quickly. This is because, in addition to being just a museum (you could easily view the exhibits in an hour or less), they also have small-scale circus shows which it's fun to see.
I would say about 2-3 hours in the summer. The winter is exhibits only so there aren't any circus shows.
Go to the website to see schedules and times. There is a lot to see, including the museum part, the wagon barn, the barns and train cars that used to carry the circus, and of course, the circus and part of the summer the tiger show, which is well worth the trip. You could just pick the parts you want to see or take your time and see it all.
Depends upon the time of the year. If your there in the summer you can spend 3 to 5 hours there and see most of it. The estimates provided by the others of 3 to 4 hrs are reasonable.
Our family spent about 3 hours and felt like we saw everything. It was fun(that time included watching the show- we were at the last elephant show). If you have little kids, that would probably be too long.
