You mentioned in your review that you went zip lining -- where -- and was it a pretty exciting one? Also - did you do self guided hiking or take a tour?
There's a zipline on the Sapphire Resort property called Vordach. It kinda goes across the ski slopes and through the trees. The second line feels the highest. It wasn't super crazy but it was fun and got the adrenaline going. It was also quite affordable if you're staying at the resort. (There may be a bigger one in Highlands, but it's a good bit more expensive.)
There's no need for a guided tour to hike the area. There are lots of well marked trails, especially in the Gorges State Park. But two books are very helpful, with directions and maps. Kevin Adams "Waterfalls of North Carolina" and Jonny Malloy's "Hiking North Carolina's National Forests." The Malloy book even has maps and two good hikes in Panthertown Valley. We referred to the book a lot.
